Hendrix grew up playing guitar, imitating blues greats like Muddy Waters as well as early rockers. He joined the army in 1959 and became a paratrooper but was honorably discharged in 1961 after an injury that exempted him from duty in Vietnam. In the early 1960s, Hendrix worked as a pickup guitarist, backing musicians including Little Richard, B.B. King, Ike and Tina Turner, and Sam Cooke. In 1964, he moved to New York and played in coffeehouses, where bassist Bryan Chandler of the British group the Animals heard him. Chandler arranged to manage Hendrix and brought him to London in 1966, where they created the Jimi Hendrix Experience with bassist Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell. The band's first single, "Hey Joe," hit No. 6 on the British pop charts, and the band became an instant sensation. In 1967, the Jimi Hendrix Experience made its first U.S. appearance, at the Monterey Pop Festival. Hendrix made a splash by burning his guitar and was quickly established as a rock superstar. In the next two years, before the band broke up in 1969, it had released such classic songs as "Purple Haze," "Foxy Lady," and "The Wind Cries Mary." The band's albums included Are You Experienced? Pat O'Day (born 1934 as Paul W. Berg) is a Pacific Northwest broadcaster and promoter. He is probably best known as the afternoon drive personality at Seattle's KJR 950 in the 1960s, he would eventually become program director and general manager. He owned KYYX - FM 96.5 Radio in Seattle in the mid seventies and early 80s. This frequency is now occupied by KJAQ. The current KYYX station in another city has no connection. O'Day also served as the radio "voice of the Hydros" during Seattle's annual Seafair Hydroplane Race.  Rock, funk, soul, and grunge.... Seattle is known all over the world as a musical mecca with a rich and diverse history. But behind every musician lies... a beginner. The most accomplished singer, the most innovated guitarist, and the most famous rocker were all at one time just beginners...students with a dream and the desire to create art. That's why the Northwest Music Monument, A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix and Pat O'Day, honors the commitment of two men who knew the importance of music education and inspiration. Guitar legend Jimi Hendrix and Pacific Northwest Radio icon Pat O'Day came together at Seattle's Garfield High School in 1968 to empower students to dream big, to value knowledge, and most of all, to realize the beauty and power of music. Here are details courtesy of the NY Post: “Michael was wearing cargo pants on the course,” said a spy. Jordan’s multi-pocketed pants were apparently against the dress code that, sources say, dictates that members and guests must be attired in a collared shirt and Bermuda shorts. “He was given the chance to change but he didn’t want to,” a source said. The source added that Jordan, who was enjoying a round at the club with one of its members, played on anyway. The source added that members complained about Jordan breaking the rules and, “He won’t be invited back.” A rep for Jordan had this to say regarding the incident: “Michael Jordan did wear cargo pants . . . He had been there many times before and had worn cargo pants previously, and had never been made aware that he was violating any dress code. As worshippers gather, Pakistani city endures second deadly blast in two days

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) -- For the second time in two days, a deadly blast shook a northwest Pakistani city as worshippers marked the sacred holiday of Ashura.
The explosion occurred near a Shiite Muslim procession in Dera Ismail Khan. The bomb was planted inside a bicycle repair shop, killing five people and injuring more than 70 others, said Mian Iftikahr Hussain, the provincial information minister.
A spokesman for the Pakistani Taliban said the group was behind Sunday's bombing on the procession and warned of more attacks.
A day earlier, the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for a blast that killed seven people, including three children, during a Shiite religious procession in the same city Saturday.
