Seahawks’ Pete Carroll denies Geno Smith arm issue after brutal 49ers loss

Seahawks’ Pete Carroll denies Geno Smith arm issue after brutal 49ers loss

Story by Jay Postrado

The Seattle Seahawks looked lost as they got eaten alive by a tough San Francisco 49ers squad. Not only was Christian McCaffrey too much to handle for their secondary but Geno Smith could not make runs to get their offense within striking distance. It looked like a concern for most

fans, especially after what looked like a disasterclass of a first half. Murmurs of injuries started surfacing in the middle of the Thanksgiving game. All of these prompted Pete Carroll to clarify the status of his quarterback, via Brady Henderson of ESPN.

“That had nothing to do with it,” was the declaration that the Seahawks coach made after being asked about Geno Smith’s arm.

Fans were getting worried because of Smith’s performance against the 49ers. He only threw for 18 completions and had nine incomplete passes. The Seahawks quarterback uncharacteristically could not get a passing touchdown but notched a crucial interception. Overall, Pete Carroll’s

offense was not clicking due to their air attack. The 49ers led by Christian McCaffrey eclipsed them with 377 total yards while they only got 220 throughout the whole four quarters.

Moreover, their efficiency on first downs was also horrid because the Seahawks only had 14 of them. The 49ers got 23 first-down conversions which overwhelmed their secondary. Six sacks could knock the wind out of any quarterback and it looked like the case for Smith. But, the

brighter side of things is that he has a chance to redeem himself in the coming games. Another injury to him would deliver a significant blow to the Seahawks’ postseason hopes.

NFL Thanksgiving 2023: Seahawks predictably embarrassed 31-13 by 49ers

Two fierce NFC West rivals square off in the Thanksgiving night-capper in Seattle.

NFL: San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Well that wasn’t even close.

The Seattle Seahawks (6-5) fell behind early, sort of recovered for some semblance of respectability in the 3rd quarter, but ultimately got trounced 31-13 by the vastly superior San Francisco 49ers (8-3). Lumen Field had a lot of 49ers fans in the building, and they were the joyous ones

almost from the opening kick.

Geno Smith played through his arm injury but didn’t play remotely well. The offensive line was predictably outmatched, DK Metcalf had a bad case of the dropsies, Jaxon Smith-Njigba gave us one notable offensive highlights, and the only touchdown scored was a pick-6 by Jordyn Brooks.

Dee Eskridge at least shined on return duties, so there’s that.

The Seahawks are still in a playoff spot and that will remain the case regardless of the Week 12 results, but this is not a playoff team. They are playing like one of the ten worst in football and have zero consistency on either side of the ball. Maybe I should run that poll again asking if the

Seahawks will lose out.

Christian McCaffrey rushed for two scores, Deebo Samuel had his rushing TD, and Brandon Aiyuk had the TD catch that put the game out of reach.

Geno Smith’s blunt response on Seahawks’ TD drought after ugly loss vs. 49ers

Image

1st Quarter

The 49ers got the ball first after Seattle deferred to the 2nd half. Christian McCaffrey immediately got involved with a 13-yard catch-and-run, beating both Jordyn Brooks and Bobby Wagner in coverage. McCaffrey dashed for 27 yards later on in the opening series and into the Seahawks’

red zone. Deebo Samuel caught a pass on Wagner and then easily scored on a 2-yard handoff to cap off a flawless opening drive.

A Dee Eskridge highlight! The embattled 2021 second-round pick took the ensuing kick return 66 yards. Your eyes aren’t deceiving you! This led to a Jason Myers field goal, as the Seahawks only gained 1 yard after this.

The 49ers offense just carved the Seahawks up with ease. Two big throws by Brock Purdy to a wide open Deebo Samuel had San Francisco in field goal range in next to no time at all. A holding penalty on Jauan Jennings nullified a big run by Christian McCaffrey, which derailed the drive.

Leonard Williams blew up a screen pass on 3rd and 14 and knocked them out of field goal range.

Seattle went three-and-out, highlighted by Geno Smith getting tripped by Zach Charbonnet almost for a safety. Thrilling stuff. The subsequent punt by Michael Dickson only went to the Seattle 45. Seattle could’ve gotten off the field on 3rd and 7 if any of Riq Woolen, Devon Witherspoon,

or Tre Brown could tackle Jauan Jennings. Instead, he gained 8 to move the sticks.

A 3rd down stop by the Seahawks was negated by Tre Brown very clearly holding George Kittle in the end zone. Christian McCaffrey scored from a yard out to extend the lead to 14-3.

Dee Eskridge gained 11 on a jet sweep, and then Geno got picked off on an out route intended for Tyler Lockett. Ambry Thomas was all over it and just like that, ball at the Seattle 41 for the 49ers.

The Seahawks defense stepped up and prevented the 49ers from getting any points, but a punt backed Seattle up at the 2. DK Metcalf looked to have a catch deep down the sideline on Charvarius Ward, except he drifted out of bounds and couldn’t get a second foot down. Punt time, yet again.

This time, the Seahawks defense wasn’t so stout. Brandon Aiyuk got open for a big gain into Seattle territory, Deebo and Kittle converted 3rd downs, and McCaffrey just slickly outran and evaded the Seahawks defense for his second touchdown.

After another Seahawks three-and-out, the 49ers went three-and-out in solidarity. Devon Witherspoon blew up a screen pass and that put them behind the sticks just before the two-minute warning.

DeeJay Dallas muffed a punt and the 49ers recovered. LOL, that’s all I’ve got. The 49ers kicked a field goal before the break.

Seattle got into a 1-minute drill, finally picked up a couple of first downs, and Jason Myers hooked a 53-yard field goal wide right. Fitting. Stone Forsythe picked up a stupid penalty for body slamming a dude.

3rd Quarter

Seattle got into field goal range in an uptempo, promising drive to start the half. Geno then got sacked by Nick Bosa, who just destroyed Stone Forsythe off the snap and got them out of FG range.

A COOL PLAY! Jordyn Brooks’ first career interception is a touchdown! Brock Purdy threw an errant pass, and Jordyn took it to the house. Another three-and-out got the crowd really rocking and produced some spark in terms of a possible comeback.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba. This was incredible! And it was after a DK Metcalf drop.

Suddenly the Seahawks were pushing the 49ers back on the ground, getting some success through the air, and they made their way into the red zone. Geno Smith had two runs for almost 20 yards to get 1st and goal at the 8. However, the drive stalled after Jaxon Smith-Njigba was held

on 2nd and goal but no flag was thrown, and then Geno was sacked on 3rd and goal with no one open. Jason Myers did hit from 30 to cut into the deficit some more.

4th Quarter

The 49ers crossed into Seahawks territory off the back of Deebo and McCaffrey. A big hit by Quandre Diggs stopped McCaffrey short of the marker on 3rd and long. Faced with 4th and 3, the 49ers false started and ended up punting to begin the 4th. Suffice to say, the Seahawks wasted this.

Brock Purdy had an inconsistent night, but he threw a dime to Brandon Aiyuk for the dagger TD. A perfect throw that beat Devon Witherspoon and Julian Love in coverage to make it an 18-point game.

Seattle again had a promising drive, but it was semi-garbage time at this point and they failed on a 3rd and 1 sneak, followed by a 4th and 1 shotgun run to Charbonnet who was denied. Ball game.

NFL's John Madden Thanksgiving Celebration sees tributes throughout tripleheader

Story by Safid Deen

John Madden believed Thanksgiving is about family, football, food, tradition and fun.

And the turducken, of course.

The NFL will celebrate his legacy for a second annual John Madden Thanksgiving Celebration during its tripleheader on Thursday.

Madden, the legendary NFL coach turned broadcaster and video game pioneer, called 20 Thanksgiving games during his career, where his turducken (a deboned turkey, stuffed with a deboned duck, stuffed with a chicken) became a holiday delicacy.

The NFL will honor Madden throughout Thanksgiving Day with:

∎Tributes to Madden for his contributions to the sport in each game, in the broadcast booth and on the field.

∎A “Madden Hallmark" will kick off each broadcast, conveying what Thanksgiving meant to Madden in his own words.

Seahawks’ Pete Carroll sheds doubt on Geno Smith playing Thanksgiving game vs. 49ers

11/20/2023

Story by Jay Postrado

Geno Smith has been the offensive engine of a Seattle Seahawks squad that is keeping their postseason hopes alive. Outgunning Matthew Stafford along with escaping tough tackles and sacks from the Aaron Donald-led Los Angeles Rams secondary is tough. He looked poised to make a

run after their win. But, fans might need to lower their expectations as Pete Carroll disclosed his quarterback’s probable status ahead of their Thanksgiving clash against the San Francisco 49ers.

Pete Carroll has unveiled that Geno Smith endured bruises on his triceps amid their loss to the Rams, per Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. This makes it unlikely for the Seahawks quarterback to be ready to face Nick Bosa and the insanely good 49ers defensive squad.

This will be a huge loss to the Seahawks. Not only will they slide down to a five-loss record if they lose, but they will also find it hard to look for a playmaker like Smith. His importance cannot be understated in their run for a postseason berth. Against Matthew Stafford and the Rams, he

notched 223 passing yards on 22 completions. A passing touchdown to DK Metcalf made it all the sweeter.

But, once Carroll pulled him out of the game, the Seahawks offense looked lost. They could not score for the whole of the fourth quarter which spelled their unfortunate loss. Drew Lock will have to step up if they wish to win in Thanksgiving.

Will the Seahawks see another breakout star when they face the 49ers or is this it?

Seahawks’ Kenneth Walker in danger of missing time after injury vs. Rams

Seahawks’ Kenneth Walker in danger of missing time after injury vs. Rams

Story by Poch de la Rosa

Second-year Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III could miss some time. He suffered an oblique injury during their 17-16 loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 11.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll broke the sobering news after Seattle’s fourth loss of the season, per ESPN NFL senior insider Adam Schefter.

“Seahawks’ HC Pete Carroll told reporters that RB Kenneth Walker suffered an ‘oblique strain that was legit,'” Schefter tweeted on Sunday.

“Walker is in danger of missing some time; Seahawks host the 49ers on Thanksgiving night,” Schefter added.

INJURY UPDATE: Kenneth Walker III suffered an oblique strain in today’s game. Pete Carroll doesn’t know how much time he’ll miss as of right now. The @Seahawks play on Thursday night so with the short week ahead , Walker’s availability remains uncertain

Kenneth Walker had just 18 rushing yards on four carries before he went to the Seahawks’ locker room for further evaluation early in the first half.

Zach Charbonnet picked up the slack for the injured Walker and finished the game with 47 rushing yards on 14 carries. Seattle finished with a paltry 68 rushing yards in its second straight loss to the Rams.

Kenneth Walker and Geno Smith took their lumps against the Rams

Kenneth Walker wasn’t the only casualty in the Seahawks’ Week 11 loss. Seattle quarterback Geno Smith left the game in the third quarter after he took a vicious hit from Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald.

Smith suffered an elbow injury after taking the massive hit. Television cameras zoomed in on him receiving treatment on the sidelines. Although in-game updates revealed Geno Smith was questionable to return, he took the field with less than one minute remaining.

Smith shook off the effects of the elbow injury and led the Seahawks to a late drive that put them within field-goal range. To their dismay, Jason Myers missed a 55-yard field goal attempt that would’ve sealed their seventh win of the season. Instead, they watched in horror as the Rams

ended their three-game skid.

The Seahawks have a short four-day window prior to their Thanksgiving Day game against the San Francisco 49ers. Based on the recent reports, Kenneth Walker’s chances of suiting up for that game are slim to nil. It’s next man up for Pete Carroll and Co. moving forward.

Seahawks’ Geno Smith heads to medical tent after vicious Aaron Donald hit

11/19/23

Story by Angelo Guinhawa

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith was forced to leave the field during their Week 11 showdown against the Los Angeles Rams following a rather brutal hit from Aaron Donald.

Late in the third quarter, Donald forced his way past the Seahawks offensive line and onto the pocket to catch Smith as he was about to throw the ball. Donald then delivered a hard hit on the Seattle QB, putting him down and in clear pain.

Smith was then brought to the medical tent for evaluation, with the Seahawks eventually announcing that their QB1 suffered a right elbow injury. The 33-year-old signal-caller has since been labeled as questionable to return.

Oh hello, @prattprattpratt!

Live by the late game-winning field goal, die by the late game-winning field goal.

Jason Myers was the hero against the Washington Commanders, but his 55-yard field goal went wide right in the closing seconds. The Seattle Seahawks (6-4) are in serious jeopardy after losing 17-16 to the Los Angeles Rams (4-6). They dominated the 1st half but only led 13-7, then

the offense stalled out and injury to Geno Smith really was a disaster. Bad officiating hurt the Seahawks, bad discipline hurt the Seahawks even further, and the defense lost a 16-7 lead to Matthew Stafford and company.

Hard to envision the playoffs at this point despite the current 6-4 record. And frankly, it’s hard to continue to justify supporting much of this coaching staff given the systemic problems that happen every week.

Seahawks’ Pete Carroll not happy after losing to Rams: ‘We did that to ourselves’

11/19/23

Story by Jackson Stone

On Sunday afternoon, head coach Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks dropped to 6-4 on the 2023 NFL season with a disappointing road loss at the hands of their divisional rivals, the Los Angeles Rams. The Seahawks actually held a nine-point lead heading into the fourth and final

frame of this contest, which took place in SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles; however, the Rams outscored Seattle 10-0 in the quarter and ultimately, the Seahawks missed a potential game-winning field goal from 55 yards as time expired.

After the game, Carroll spoke on the frustration of the loss and how some self-inflicted wounds played into the final result.

“We made it really hard on ourselves so many times in this game with the calls that were made,” said Carroll, per Gregg Bell of the Tacoma News Tribune. “And I’m not disputing any of them. The penalties that happened were just out of line for us. We have not been good in that area

during the season in general, and today, it really blew up on us, and it gave them a really good chance to take advantage of it, and they did… I’m really disappointed because it feels like we did that to ourselves.”

Two of the Rams’ four wins this season have come at the expense of the Seahawks, who now sit at 6-4 past the midway point of the 2023 NFL season. Up next for the Seahawks is another divisional contest against one of the best teams in the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers, on

Thanksgiving night.

1st Quarter

The Seahawks started the game on defense, which has been a problem at times this season, but not on this occasion. Matthew Stafford was sacked by Devon Witherspoon on 2nd and 8, giving the rookie his 3rd on the year. Pressure. from Boye Mafe resulted in a hurried Stafford throw

and a three-and-out forced by the Seahawks defense.

Seattle’s offense converted its first two 3rd down attempts, once through the air to Tyler Lockett and once via Zach Charbonnet running it up the middle. Jaxon Smith-Njigba looked like he had a great sideline grab in the red zone, but Sean McVay’s challenge was successful after it was

ruled that JSN was out of bounds. No problem, as JSN caught the next pass over the middle to extend the drive. Geno Smith found DK Metcalf and Lockett on consecutive plays to get into a goal-to-go situation. Two plays later, DK found the end zone on the slant pass. What an opening

drive! We’re talking 14 plays, 88 yards, and 7 points!

It took only one play for the Rams to get to the Seattle 25. An encroachment on Jarran Reed gave them 1st and 5, then a defensive pass interference on Julian Love resulted in a field position flip. Love mistimed his jump and contacted Tutu Atwell before the ball got there. After

committing offensive pass interference, Cooper Kupp was wide open for a touchdown on a free play but Stafford could not connect. Leonard Williams jumped and the Rams didn’t punish the Seahawks defense. Rie Woolen was flagged for DPI on Atwell on 3rd and 5, which looked shaky

both for the contact and the ball being uncatchable. Three straight runs put the Rams at the 2-yard line. Sean McVay decided to go for it on 4th and goal. The Stafford throw to the end zone... incomplete! He looked for Atwell, but Tre Brown had him locked down.

2nd Quarter

Seattle steadily worked its way from the shadow of their end zone. Then Jaxon Smith-Njigba hauled in a terrific 32-yard pass in double coverage on 3rd and 10. High-point the ball and bring it down in Rams territory! Faced with 4th and 1, the Seahawks went for it and converted with

Zach Charbonnet. Phil Haynes opened up the whole to burst through for 8 yards. Consecutive penalties for delay of game and illegal shift backed the Seahawks up, killing a promising drive. Jason Myers was still on point from 54 to make it 10-0.

Matthew Stafford couldn’t find anything on the next possession and ended up with three straight incomplete passes. Julian Love nearly got to Stafford on a blitz, but Stafford escaped and threw it away.

DK Metcalf got free for 52 yards on a play-action 2nd and 2 deep shot, beating former preseason Seahawk Ahkello Witherspoon all the way to the Rams’ 7. Of course, asking for consistent red zone play is too much, and the drive went backwards. Jason Myers was money from 43 to

extend the lead.

The Rams finally got a good drive going with short passes and successful runs, but it came at a cost after Cooper Kupp suffered an injury. Tutu Atwell got free on a crosser to set up 1st and goal inside the 10. The Rams had 3rd and goal with :12 left at the Seattle 4, and Puka Nacua’s

3rd Quarter

Seattle started the 2nd half with a three-and-out, including a bad drop by Will Dissly and a broken up throw on 3rd and 2. The Seahawks defense got a three-and-out forced, with some assistance by the Rams for negating a 3rd down conversion on a holding penalty. DeeJay Dallas got hit

early on a punt return, giving the Seahawks great field position after the 15-yard penalty. Dallas got Seattle out of a jam by turning a 3rd and 11 checkdown into a 10-yard gain. Pete Carroll went for it on 4th and 1 and the Seahawks converted on a quick out to Charbonnet. A big holding

penalty on Colby Parkinson negated a good run by Zach Charbonnet, essentially killing hopes of a touchdown. Jason Myers was called upon again to give Seattle another two-score lead, this time from 52.

It was a puntfest for a bit, as neither team could sustain much offense or hold up well in pass protection. Matthew Stafford had a 91-yard touchdown possibly on a wheel route to Darrell Henderson, but he overshot him on 1st and 17. That miss turned into a punting situation, so the

Seahawks got a huge break. The game took a major turn when Geno Smith got crushed by Aaron Donald on a blown block by Phil Haynes. Somehow the pass wasn’t picked off as it hung in the air forever, but Drew Lock had to come in for the injured Smith. It looked like he got hit in the

head and fell hard on his right arm.

4th Quarter

Drew Lock threw an incomplete pass on 3rd and 9 to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, leading to a punt. A penalty on Devon Witherspoon for a suplex on Austin Trammell gave the Rams a free 15 yards. However, Riq Woolen picked off Matt Stafford on the flea-flicker. Stafford got drilled by Mario

Edwards on the deep ball.

Seattle went three-and-out with Lock in for a second possession. The Rams had Stafford back out there after the huge shot he absorbed by Mario Edwards Jr on the interception. A big throw to Demarcus Robinson put LA in Seahawks territory. It took only a handful of snaps for the Rams

to get goal-to-go. A screen pass to Darrell Henderson nullified went f or a touchdown but was erased on an OPI call on Tyler Higbee, who blocked Julian Love before the pass was thrown. Devon Witherspoon was flagged for defensive pass interference on 3rd and goal, giving the Rams

another set of downs. All Witherspoon did was not contact Nacua, who tripped over Jordyn Brooks. A DREADFUL CALL. Henderson scored without any penalties on this occasion, cutting the Seahawks’ lead to 16-14 with 7:38 to go.

Lock threw a deep shot on 3rd and 11 and got picked off by Derion Kendrick on a pass intended for Tyler Lockett. A celebration penalty moved the Rams back 15 yards, but Stafford hit Nacua for a 32-yard gain anyway. Seattle had a 3rd and 15 stop, if only for a hands to the face penalty

on Riq Woolen to extend the drive. The run defense got gashed by Royce Freeman and suddenly LA was in field goal range. Freeman converted a 3rd and 2 by running over Bobby Wagner for a huge conversion. A Nacua just sweep put the Rams in goal-to-go, which led to Seattle burning

timeouts. Surprisingly, the Rams threw the ball and Stafford threw an incomplete pass. Another throw was caught but short of the end zone, so the chip shot field goal by Lucas Havrisik was good but with 1:31 left.

Geno Smith returned to the lineup. A throw to Lockett to his own 40 but the clock was running. Checkdown to Charbonnet for minimal gain. They reviewed this, which would’ve benefited Seattle just to stop the clock. The ruling upheld with :42 left. GENO TO DK TO THE RAMS’ 39! A run

with Charbonnet with :19 and a spike with :07 left. Jason Myers from 55 for the win. Timeout, Rams. The kick is no good. Seahawks lose.

Washington football bold predictions for Week 11 matchup vs Utah

Michael Penix Jr. will throw for 300 yards

Michael Penix Jr. puts up big passing numbers in most of his games, but he will have his hands full with this Utah defense. This will be one of the best defenses that he will face all season, and he will need to bring his A-game to find success against them. While the Utes are going to

challenge him, they aren’t going to stop him. There’s a reason why Penix. Jr is the favorite to win the Heisman trophy. He has been the best QB in college football this season, and he will continue to prove that with another big performance this weekend against Utah.

'Immediate Factor!' Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll Is A Big Fan Of Trade Acquisition Leonard Williams

Pete Carroll (K) and Leonard Williams FanStreamSports.com

Story by Timm Hamm

The Seattle Seahawks just moved into first place in the NFC West, and it didn't take long for the team to get even better.

Ahead of Tuesday's NFL trade deadline, the Seahawks made a move that should improve the already stout defense by trading for former Pro-Bowl defensive end Leonard Williams.

Seattle will send their 2024 second-round pick and a fifth-round pick in 2025 to the New York Giants in exchange for Williams. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll thinks Williams will have an immediate impact, otherwise, the team wouldn't have given up such valuable draft stock.

“We’re competing. That’s what we always say and tell you, that’s really what this is about; just trying to get better and trying to help our team. This is one of the late opportunities to do something like that. John (Schneider) did a beautiful job of figuring it out and how to work it and pick

out the guy that really fits and be a part of this team.

"I’m really excited for our guys to get to know Leonard (Williams) and see who he is and what he’s all about. His competitiveness is very similar to the guys we have in this program and he’s going to fit in great.”

Carroll is also glad he doesn't have to face Williams as an opposing coach again.

"We had to play him, and he’s been a problem. He’s looked good against guys in our division already and that’s just another added boost to him. We just been tuned in just because he was a USC guy made it special along the way. Uchenna (Nwosu) played with him too.”

Williams is a former No. 6 overall selection out of USC, drafted by the New York Jets in 2015. The overhaul of the defensive line that started in the offseason continues. Seattle has already added Jarran Reed, Dre'Mont Jones and Mario Edwards Jr. in free agency and added Cameron Young

and Mike Morris, who is on injured reserve, via the draft.

Seattle Mariners' Legend, Hall of Famer, Puts in Work at Game 5 of World Series

usatsi_21793481_168388303_lowres

Story by Brady Farkas

As a player, Seattle Mariners and Cincinnati Reds legend Ken Griffey Jr. unfortunately never made a World Series.

But as a photographer? Yeah, Junior has made it in that fashion.

The Baseball Hall of Famer was there with the camera at Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday night between the Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers.

The Baseball Hall of Fame put out a picture on "X" of Junior doing his thing:

Focus on Cooperstown: Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. at Wednesday's Game 5, Documenting History.

Ken Griffey Jr. wearing gray shirt, jeans and trademark backward cap as he stands in the third base photo well at Chase Field. He holds a camera on a monopod with his left hand with another over his left shoulder.

Taking photographs has become a major passion of Griffey in his post-retirement years. Though he works for Major League Baseball, and does some work with the Mariners, we've seen him take pictures at NFL games too. He was at the Arizona Cardinals game earlier this season.

He's not the only Hall of Famer who is big into photography: Former Mariners teammate Randy Johnson is also big into the hobby.

One of the best players in baseball history, Griffey spent 22 years in the big leagues with the Mariners, Reds and White Sox. One of the most popular players to ever play the game, he hit 630 career home runs. He was a 13-time All-Star, a 10-time Gold Glover, a seven-time Silver

Slugger and a former MVP.

He was a lifetime .284 hitter.

Though he never made the World Series, he was a dominant playoff performer, hitting .290 in 18 career games in October. He had six home runs in those games.

He saw the Texas Rangers win their first ever World Series on Wednesday night. They beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-0.

Texas Rangers fans disappointed that former President George W. Bush will throw first pitch before World Series opener:

On Friday night, the Texas Rangers will begin their quest for the first World Series title in franchise history. After defeating in-state rivals, the Houston Astros, the Rangers have reached the Fall Classic for the first time since 2011. Now, only the Arizona Diamondbacks stand in their way

for baseball's biggest prize.

The opening matchup of the World Series will be played at Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers. Since the Rangers will play host for the first two games of the World Series, the franchise has planned something special for each home game that the team will play.

According to the team's social media accounts, Game 1 of the World Series will see former President of the United States George W. Bush throw out the ceremonial opening pitch to Rangers Hall of Famer Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez.

Although fans are ecstatic by the news that Pudge Rodriguez, one of the greatest catchers in MLB history, will make an appearance, reactions have not been the same when it comes to George W. Bush. The 77-year-old, who served as the President of the United States of America from

2001-2009, resides at his ranch in Crawford, Texas, which is roughly 100 miles from the stadium.

Although he served as President for eight years, his legacy since his tenure has received mixed reviews, which is why some fans are disappointed by his involvement. Some reactions have gone from simply saying he is cursed to others calling him a "war criminal."

"Dude, not the curse of Bush," one fan wrote.

The Texas Rangers will bring out more club legends for Game 2

Although some fans are disappointed by the news that George W. Bush would be throwing out the opening pitch for Game 1, the special guests for Game 2 have been praised almost universally.

The Texas Rangers announced that the ceremonial first pitch for Game 2 of the World Series will see two of the team's most beloved figures on either side. Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins will catch the pitch from future Hall of Famer Adrian Beltre, which has Rangers' fans buzzing.

The 2023 World Series starts Friday, Oct. 27, with the first pitch scheduled for 8:03 p.m. ET.

Victor Wembanyama will be fine

You know the hype is out of control for Victor Wembanyama when finishing with 15 points in his NBA debut feels like a disappointment. The Spurs rookie got into foul trouble early and played much of the fourth quarter with five fouls.

The Mavericks beat the Spurs behind a great game from Luka Doncic. Wembanyama showed his incredible talent in flashes even on a night when he didn’t put it all together.

Wembanyama will have a learn to avoid foul trouble. That’s fine: he’s 19 years old and has a long career in front of him. There’s zero reason to be discouraged by this debut.

If preseason is any indication, Wemby is going to have a terrific rookie and continue doing stuff the NBA has never seen before. Even without a blockbuster start to his career, I wouldn’t be surprised if Wemby still puts together an All-Star case in year one. He’s that talented.

Diamondbacks’ Paul Sewald saved career with ‘180’ transformation after Mets stint

Story by Greg Joyce

Since he left Queens, though, Sewald has resurrected his career by changing where he throws his low-90s fastball, refining the shape of his slider and then pitching with the confidence that was difficult to establish as a Met.

“Man, doing a 180, I’ve changed everything about myself from when I was in New York,” Sewald said Thursday on the eve of the World Series against the Rangers at Globe Life Field. “It’s worked out a lot better than it did in New York. I obviously wish I had pitched better there, but I got

some advice that really turned my career around and just changing everything about my pitch shapes has probably been the key to being who I am.

“Obviously I lacked confidence there because I wasn’t pitching well — it’s like the chicken or the egg. You can’t pitch well without confidence but you can’t have confidence until you pitch well. I just finally started pitching well and obviously feel a lot better about who I am as a pitcher.”

It didn’t raise many eyebrows when the Mets non-tendered Sewald in December 2020 after he pitched to a 5.50 ERA in 125 games across parts of four seasons.

But his turnaround began shortly after he signed with the Mariners that offseason.

They wanted him to throw his fastball up in the zone instead of down and away while also tweaking his slider into more of a sweeper and ditching his changeup.

Sewald said he struggled with the adjustment in spring training of 2021 but kept working on it while at the club’s alternate site that April.

After a few months it clicked, and in 189 ¹/₃ innings since he has posted a 2.95 ERA.

The 33-year-old isn’t throwing much harder than he did as a Met — his fastball averaged 92.2 mph this season — but elevating the pitch has made all the difference because of the lower slot from which he throws it.

“He used to kill us when he was in Seattle and I was in Houston,” Diamondbacks pitching coach Brent Strom said. “Guys would come back to the bench and say, ‘S–t, I can’t hit it. It’s on me.’ I’d look and say, ‘It’s only 91.’ That’s when you realize.”

In eight games this postseason, Sewald — who was traded from the Mariners to the Diamondbacks at the deadline — has yet to allow a run, recording six saves with 11 strikeouts across eight innings.

Mariners’ Paul Sewald enjoys silencing Mets fans in ‘emotional’ Citi Field return

Jeremy Hefner played with Sewald in 2014 at High-A St. Lucie when Hefner was rehabbing his first Tommy John surgery before becoming Sewald’s pitching coach for the COVID-shortened 2020 season.

Hefner noted “there was an opportunity” for Sewald to throw his fastball up in the zone, but did not made it a point of emphasis. Three years later, of course, hindsight is 20-20.

“I think looking back, I wish I would have obviously — revisionist history here, but I wish I would have been a little more direct,” Hefner said by phone Thursday. “I’ve definitely noticed it. But it was one of those things where it just never got to the point where we were saying that explicitly.”

As for why the fastball plays up so much when Sewald elevates it?

“He’s a big guy and he throws from a unique release height,” Hefner said. “So the hitters are expecting the ball to come down and it doesn’t. He can get his hand in position to continue to ride the ball from that lower slot, which is pretty difficult to do.”

Sewald said he believes he and Hefner would have been able to figure things out had they gotten more time together.

Instead, the Mets did not tender Sewald a contract after the 2020 season, which indirectly allowed his career to take off.

“Just super happy for him,” Hefner said. “The work ethic was never in question. He was never a guy that slacked, so you knew if he could just figure out that last piece, he could turn into something special.”

‘Marshawn Lynch N Yo City’ Needs To Be a Full Reality Series

‘Marshawn Lynch N Yo City’ Needs To Be a Full Reality Series

Story by Sheridan Singleton

Marshawn Lynch has transitioned from being an NFL player to an entertainer, dabbling in acting and making appearances in various shows and films.

His recent segment on Amazon's Thursday Night NFL streams, Marshawn Lynch N Yo City, where he explores different cities, has been a hit, with his visit to Amish country going viral.

There is a demand for more of Marshawn's entertaining adventures, with suggestions for a full-fledged travel series, and it's crucial for Amazon Prime to capitalize on this opportunity.

There is nothing more entertaining than an unexpected person doing unexpected things. People went crazy upon learning that Snoop Dogg and Martha Stewart became buddies on and off-screen. It’s fun to see some of our favorite public figures having fun and doing what they want in

ways that don’t hurt anybody. In a world of chaos, these acts of ridiculous randomness are a much-needed reprieve from reality. And, thankfully, we have another agent of a chaotic good, and that person happens to be a retired NFL player.

Marshawn Lynch is a name that’s incredibly well-known to sports fans. He entered the NFL in 2007 as a running back for the Buffalo Bills. He was traded to the Seattle Seahawks in 2010, and this trade led to a Superbowl ring in 2014. As an NFL player, Marshawn became pretty

well known for his candor during interviews before and after games. He eventually retired in 2019, and that’s when the real magic began. Marshawn retired and had time on his hands, and now he’s gone from unfiltered football player to unfiltered entertainer. And pretty much everyone is

here for it.

RELATED: Marshawn Lynch in ‘Bottoms’ Is Way More Than Stunt Casting

From NFL Player to Entertainment Gold

Marshawn began dabbling with acting during his time with the Seahawks. He appeared as himself in the fantasy football comedy series The League in 2014. He also did voiceover work for Call of Duty Black Ops III, and even acted in some lesser-known short films. Based on his iMDB

page, it’s clear that Marshawn is partial to performing. He even made an appearance on the ever-popular HBO series Westworld. His crowning moment, however, was his appearance on the improvised murder mystery comedy, Murderville. As the “new partner” of Will Arnett’s

Detective Terry Seattle, Marshawn clearly enjoyed himself and did a great job following the number one rule of improv: always say yes. His Murderville appearance was so good they even brought him back for the Christmas special.

All of this is to say, the dude has star power. Football fans love watching him because they respect him as a player and person. Non-football fans are becoming more aware of who he is because of his random appearances and acting gigs. He recently made his silver screen debut in the

coming-of-age comedy Bottoms as Mr. G, a teacher who helps the two lead characters create a self-defense class, so they can get closer to the cheerleaders they have crushes on. He’s hilarious in it, as he’s pretty much being himself, which is exactly what he needed to be as that

character. The role was a surprise to Marshawn, and when the director of the movie approached him, he was apprehensive to join. Thankfully, he did join the cast, motivated by his own sister, who is a member of the LGBTQIA community.

‘Marshawn Lynch N Yo City’ Is A Gift That Should Keep Giving

In 2022, Amazon launched a new pre-game segment for their Thursday Night NFL streams. Whoever made the decision to approach Marshawn for this segment deserves all the money, because it is brilliant. Marshawn Lynch N Yo City has a premise that is incredibly simple: Marshawn

goes to whatever city the Thursday night game Amazon is streaming, and he does stuff. Simple. He went to New Orleans and hung out with some gators. Most recently, he joined retired MLB player and father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes Jr., Pat Mahomes Sr. in

Kansas City to tour the Negro League Museum. His segment in September, however, went viral because it was hilarious. Marshawn went to Amish country and learned a little about Amish culture. His visit was so funny that it went viral, raising even more awareness of the series and his

homespun charm.

The pre-game series is popular, and Marshawn’s visit to Amish country has certainly put it on the map. The only problem with it is that there should be more of it. This segment has the potential to be an excellent reality show, following Marshawn having adventures in various cities. A full

season of Marshawn's shenanigans is truly what the people want. Sports Illustrated highlighted this fact in their review of his visit to Amish country, saying,

“If Amazon is smart enough, Lynch’s pregame segments should open the door to a full-fledged travel series. He’s already shown he’s a natural.”

They are absolutely right. Amazon Prime needs to capitalize on this now before somebody else picks it up. For instance, the series would make a great addition to Netflix. It’d also be great on Peacock, as they are in the midst of beefing up their original content with some excellent new

shows. Max or Hulu could pick it up as well. Regardless of who, what, or where, Marshawn Lynch N Yo City is a diamond in the rough, and now is the time to make it shine.

‘He’s 101′: Trea Turner gets real on Nick Castellanos following historic game in Phillies’ NLCS clinch

 10/13/23

Story by Sam DiGiovanni

The Philadelphia Phillies are dancing on their own after beating the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS again. The whiny, 104-win squad fell to the Phillies in four games in their opening playoff series for the second straight season, this time with Nick Castellanos submitting a historic performance.

While Bryce Harper’s massive home runs/clapback against Orlando Arcia provided the main storyline of this series, Castellanos made MLB history by becoming the first player to go yard twice in consecutive postseason games. The right fielder’s pair of home runs played a gigantic role in the Phillies’ NLDS-clinching win

as Philly once again left numerous runners on base against Spencer Strider. Trea Turner provided the other run with a solo shot of his own in the 3-1 victory.

Castellanos and Turner have both felt the weight expectations from Phillies fans over their respective tenures. Each guy signed a big contract following an All-Star year but played below expectations to open their stints with Philly. Yet both eventually stepped up their level of play and made big plays in the postseason.

Turner’s eight hits and Castellanos’ seven in the divisional series, both tops on the team, led the way for Philly’s victory over Atlanta.

Turner said that Castellanos is a unique guy and that he appreciates what he brings to the Phillies, according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports.

“I think he’s unique, man. He’s 101,” the Phillies shortstop said, per Nightengale. “I don’t know if I’ve met anybody like him. And I mean that in a good way. He’s different. And he can really, really hit…Regardless of what people think about him, he’s just his own person.”

There’s no doubt that Castellanos is unique, for many more reasons than just his untimely home runs. The 31-year-old is unwaveringly himself — always charmingly frank without coming off as pompous. Whether it’s explaining why Scooby Doo is a superhero, lifting his ring finger in celebration after big hits or

watching the Braves celebrate clinching the NL East championship on the Phillies’ field only to smoke them out of the playoffs later down the line, Casty is always endearing himself to his teammates and fans.

The Phillies will meet the Arizona Diamondbacks in the NLCS with Game 1 going down on Monday at Citizens Bank Park.

Mariners star Julio Rodriguez notches incredible HR, SB career feat not seen since Eric Davis

9/29/23

 Story by Gerard Angelo Samillano

Julio Rodriguez is back. After having a slow start to his sophomore season, the Seattle Mariners star is back to doing what he does best: hit bombs and steal bases. Julio is at the forefront of Seattle’s charge towards the playoffs in the 2023 season. His latest exploits saw him finally hit 60 home runs and 60 stolen

bases in his career.

You might think that that’s awfully quick of him to do at just the tail-end of his second season. Indeed, that is an abnormally quick pace to reach 60 SBs and 60 HRs. In fact, Julio Rodriguez is the second-fastest player to reach that milestone in his career, with the Mariners star taking only 284 games to do so. The

fastest player to that feat? Former Reds star Eric Davis, per ESPN Stats and Info.

“With his HR last night, Julio Rodríguez reached 60 career HR and 60 stolen bases in 284 games, the 2nd-fewest in MLB history. The only player to get there in fewer games was Eric Davis (276).”

Rodriguez’s 60th home run couldn’t have come at a better time for the Mariners. They’ve fallen behind in the uber-competitive race for a playoff spot in the American League. A clutch win over the Rangers keeps Seattle’s playoff hopes alive, whether it’s through the Wild Card round or as a division winner.

The Mariners now need to claw back against the Rangers in the final three games of their series. A sweep here would give them the best odds of making it to the postseason. They’ve already taken one from Texas. Can they get three more wins?

Story by Poch de la Rosa

Major League Baseball is investigating a shouting match between Houston Astros reliever Hector Neris and Seattle Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez. A bench-clearing incident involving Neris and Rodriguez ensued in the Astros’ 8-3 win on Wednesday. Hector Neris allegedly used a homophobic slur when he

confronted Julio Rodriguez.

Neris denied the allegations, per The Athletic’s Chandler Rome and Ken Rosenthal.

“That did not happen and any suggestion to the contrary is wrong. My mother raised me to love and respect people for who they are and that is how I live my life,” Neris said.

For his part, Julio Rodriguez didn’t delve into specifics.

“I’m going to keep the comments (private). But I feel like you’ve always got to give respect. He’s someone I had a lot of respect for. I’ve known him for a long time, dating back to 2020, during the pandemic. I just feel like I deserved a little more respect,” Rodriguez said.

Hector Neris confronted Julio Rodriguez after the former struck out the Mariners’ All-Star outfielder in the sixth inning. Mariners third baseman Eugenio Suarez was in the on-deck circle when the confrontation took place. Suarez said he heard Neris utter a slur at Rodriguez.

Hector Neris insisted he acted on impulse in the heat of the battle between the two AL West protagonists.

“It’s part of the game, emotional, like this situation today. But it’s nothing personal. It’s only trying to (wake) up my team,” Hector Neris said.

This isn’t the first time Hector Neris riled up the Mariners. MLB suspended Neris and Astros manager Dusty Baker after the former hit Mariners infielder Ty France with a wayward pitch last year.

Expect more fireworks between the Astros and Mariners should they square off in the postseason.

“Kemp made sure he was going to have a good game” - Alton Lister thinks that Shawn Kemp’s famous poster dunk on him was a form of revenge

By

Kemp’s dunk on Lister was icing on the cake for the Sonics big man, who led his team to a 3-1 series victory over the opponents.

Is there any list of the most disrespectful poster dunks in NBA history that doesn't have Shawn Kemp's slam over Alton Lister? The iconic dunk remains etched in the memories of those who got to watch the league in the early 1990s.

It wasn't enough for the former Seattle SuperSonics star to jump through Lister, but the fact that Kemp pointed at his downed rival made the play more unforgettable. Much has been said about the dunk, and Lister also said his piece about it in an interview with ESPN a couple of years ago.

"During my era, I did not back down as a rim protector," Lister said"I was challenged by a lot of players, and sometimes I was successful and other times, not. But Game 4 was a whole different story. Kemp made sure he was going to have a good game, and that's what he did. It was personal for him. That's why he

pointed at me after the dunk."

Revenge from the "Reign Man"

The dunk came during Game 4 of the first-round matchup between the Sonics and the third-seeded Golden State Warriors. Things had been testy between the two sides, with Kemp and Lister already having gone at it in the second game of the series.

Hector Neris downplays Julio Rodriguez incident after benches clear in Astros-Mariners

 Story by Sam DiGiovanni

The Houston Astros and Seattle Mariners are in the thick of a super tight playoff race as the 2023 season comes down to the wire. The tensions got really hot in their latest game as the benches emptied following a kerfuffle between Hector Neris and Julio Rodriguez.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Neris struck out Rodriguez on three pitches and got fired up, shouting at the Mariners star and igniting a heated confrontation that caused dugouts and bullpens to empty. Rodriguez was visibly frustrated at Neris, who walked right away and didn’t turn around to look at Rodriguez until

later.

BENCHES CLEAR in Seattle after Hector Neris strikes out Julio Rodriguez then taunts him

Hector Neris downplays Julio Rodriguez

Mariners third baseman Eugenio Suarez was on the on-deck circle as Neris chirped Rodriguez. He told Adam Jude of the Seattle Times that Neris shouted a homophobic slur in Spanish at Rodriguez. Although there has been some dispute about what the specific word Neris used, it’s clear based on Rodriguez’s body

language that Neris was out of line.

After the game, which the Astros won by a score of 8-3, Neris said that there was nothing personal between him and Rodriguez, according to Shane Lantz of the Associated Press.

“It’s part of the game, emotional, like this situation today,” Neris said, via AP. “But it’s nothing personal. It’s only trying to (wake) up my team.”

Rodriguez was unavailable for questions after the game. According to Lantz, a Mariners spokesperson said that Rodriguez was shocked at Neris’ behavior but said that he doesn’t believe he had any prior issues with the Astros pitcher.

The Astros won the series against the Mariners as both teams head into their final series of the regular season. Buckle up for what will be a crazy ride to the finish line.

The Astros, Mariners and Texas Rangers are fighting down to the wire for the AL West title. Texas owns the top spot and leads Houston by 2.5 games and Seattle is 1.5 games back of the Astros. The Mariners will host the Rangers for a four-game series to end the regular season while the Astros close it out with a

road matchup against the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are fighting for their own playoff lives in the NL Wild Card race.

'I Need You!' Inside Pep Talk from Geno to Jaxon: VIDEO

 Geno and Jaxon - Seahawks

Geno and Jaxon - Seahawks

Story by Mike Fisher

Playing quarterback in the NFL? All it is is the toughest job in sports. Among the demands are leadership qualities, but those must be married with talent and execution.

"Leadership, Talent and Execution''? Meet Geno Smith.

The vet QB was a centerpiece in driving the Seattle Seahawks to a 37-27 victory over the Carolina Panthers in Week 3, and a mic'd-up piece from Geno as he encouraged Jaxon Smith-Njigba on the sideline is quite telling.

“Hey, I need you! Need you in the second half! Need you locked in!" Smith said via Inside The NFL"Alright, look. Whatever happened is on me. It ain’t never on you. You gotta get the ball, so I gotta find you, all right? But I need you to give me your best this second half."

This conversation seems to have come off the heels of a Panthers interception on a ball intended for Smith-Njigba, the talented rookie receiver.

Did the Smith pep talk suddenly propel the former Ohio State star Smith-Njigba into a gigantic-number performance? It did not, as he finished the game with but one 10-yard catch.

And overall, the numbers aren't there, as Jaxon has recorded just nine catches for 57 yards in three games for the 2-1 Seahawks. Some of that is about game script, some about philosphy (coach Pete Carroll has no reluctance to run the football) and some of it is due to the fact that Seattle's depth chart at receiver

starts with D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett.

But as Smith-Njigba, just 21 years old, looks forward to helping when the Seahawks face the New York Giants on Monday Night Football ... or in the near future? He's got the positive message from a more-than-just-a-leader Geno Smith firmly planted in his psyche.

Geno Smith told Jake Bobo “keep winning I’m gonna Find you.”

Israel uncovers ancient Christian inscription from Book of Psalms

The archeological team cleans the Hyrcania site.

The archeological team cleans the Hyrcania site.

 Story by By JUDY SIEGEL-ITZKOVICH

An excavation project at the remote site of Hyrcania in the Judean Desert that has unearthed a rare Byzantine Greek inscription paraphrasing a verse from the Book of Psalms is being carried out by archaeologists at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HU). It is being performed to save remaining archaeological finds

from antiquities looters who have been more active in recent years.

Hyrcania was an ancient fortress built by Hasmonean ruler John Hyrcanus or his son Alexander Jannaeus in the 2nd or 1st century BCE.

The readable text is a paraphrase of Psalms 86: 1–2, known as “a prayer of David.” While the original lines are “Hear me, Lord, and answer me, for I am poor and needy. Guard my life, for I am faithful to you,” the Hyrcania version reads: "Jesus Christ, guard me, for I am poor and needy.”

Built upon an imposing, artificially leveled hilltop situated about 17 kilometers southeast of Jerusalem and eight km southwest of Qumran and the Dead Sea, this was one of a series of desert fortresses that was later rebuilt and enlarged by Herod the Great. The most famous, and luxurious, of these strongholds are

Masada and Herodium.

The inscription is in Koine Greek – biblical Greek or New Testament Greek that was the common supra-regional form of Greek spoken and written during the Hellenistic period, the Roman Empire, and the early Byzantine Empire that served as the lingua franca of much of the Mediterranean region and the Middle East

during the following centuries.

Adorned with a cross, the Byzantine-era inscription was likely made by a knowledgeable monk and holds significance as a well-known prayer in the Masoretic text and Christian liturgy. An analysis of the script’s style suggests a dating no later than the first half of the 6th century CE, which was the height of the

Byzantine era and with minor grammatical errors, revealing the scribe’s mother tongue to be Semitic.

Previously unknown language found hidden in "cultic ritual text" of ancient tablets

Story by Kerry Breen

Anew language has been discovered in a UNESCO World Heritage Site being excavated in northern Turkey, according to a news release from the University of Würzburg

The area being excavated is Boğazköy-Hattusha, the former capital of the Hittite Empire. The Hittites are one of the world's oldest known civilizations, with the world's oldest known Indo-European language, and excavations at that site have been ongoing for more than 100 years, the university said. The excavations

are directed by the German Archaeological Institute. Previously, archaeologists at the site have found "almost 30,000 clay tablets with cuneiform writing," according to the university's news release.

The tablets have helped researchers understand the civilization's history, society, economy, religious traditions and more, but this year's excavations at the site "yielded a surprise," the university said: Within a "cultic ritual text," written in Hititte, there is a "recitation in a hitherto unknown language."

"The Hittites were uniquely interested in recording rituals in foreign languages," said Daniel Schwemer, chair of Ancient Near Eastern Studies at the university, in the release. This means that the find isn't entirely unexpected. It appears to refer to a language from an area once called Kalašma, on the northwestern

edge of the Hittite civilization, where the Turkish towns of Bolu and Gerede currently exist.

The language is "as yet largely incomprehensible," the news release said, and is being studied for more understanding.

This is the fourth such language found among the tablets: Previous researchers have found cuneiform texts with passages in Luwian, Palaic and Hattic languages. The first two languages are closely related to Hittite, the university said, while the third language differs. The new language was found where the Palaic

language was spoken, but researchers believe it shares "more features" with Luwian. The connection between the languages will be studied by researchers.

The university said that these ritual texts were usually written by the scribes of Hittite rulers and reflect various Bronze Age traditions and languages. According to the University of Chicago's Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures, which keeps the Chicago Hittite Dictionary, a "comprehensive, bilingual Hittite-

English dictionary," studying Hittite languages can help illuminate how Western civilization began.

"Despite what is often thought, modern Western civilization did not start with the Greeks," the institute said on its website. "The real cradle of our civilization stood in what is now the Middle East. Many literary and artistic themes and motifs can be traced back directly to that world. The Bible was embedded in ancient

Near Eastern society, and the earliest forms of what we call modern science are found in Babylon. Anatolia is the natural bridge between those Eastern worlds and Graeco-Roman civilization and the Hittites and their later descendants in the same area served as intermediaries, handing down ancient Near Eastern

culture to the West."

Aaron Rodgers sends brutal message to Joe Namath

Aaron Rodgers Joe Namath

Story by Chris Novak

The New York Jets are spiraling, Zach Wilson hasn’t played well, and Aaron Rodgers doesn’t think Joe Namath is helping. Things for the Jets haven’t gone well at all since Week 1. While the team celebrated a victory over the Buffalo Bills that night, Aaron Rodgers’ Achilles injury had an adverse effect. Wilson has not

played well again under center, leading to two straight losses for New York. The New England Patriots defeated the Jets over the weekend, and Wilson’s performance was less than stellar.

Namath, a Jet legend and the quarterback for the team’s lone Super Bowl win destroyed Wilson in a rant. Rodgers appeared on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ Tuesday, making a scheduled appearance, and responded to Namath’s words. Suffice it to say, the former multi-time NFL MVP wasn’t happy.

“I said it to them in the preseason: our toughest task is handling success,” Rodgers said. “And that’s whether we’re having success or not having success. It doesn’t mean you’re winning all the time; you gotta handle it the right way. It’s when we’re not having success; how do we respond? How do we respond to

adversity?”

“And that goes for our fanbase and former players as well. You’re not helping the cause,” Rodgers said.

Granted, while Rodgers isn’t necessarily wrong, the Jets are in a helpless situation. No matter how many positive outlooks the team might have, the quarterback position is clearly restricting them. And that figures to continue as long as Rodgers is sidelined with his Achilles injury.

Seahawks’ Pete Carroll gives crucial injury updates on Jamal Adams, others after win vs Panthers

9/24/23

Story by Ryan Bologna

The Seattle Seahawks picked up a 37-27 win over the Carolina Panthers at home to move to 2-1 on the season, and Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll gave updates on a number of key players looking ahead to Week 4’s Monday Night Football game against the New York Giants, including safety Jamal Adams.

“We’re going to get a bunch of guys back next week, it’s going to be really exciting to see these guys come back to us,” Pete Carroll said, via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk. “Jamal will be playing. Tariq [Woolen] has a great chance to come back. Charles [Cross] has a real chance next week, so we’ll see how

that works out.”

Jamal Adams has not played since Week 1 of the 2022 season due to tearing his quadriceps. It will be interesting to see how he looks when he returns to action. He could be an impactful player if he fits back in with the defense.

Tariq Woolen is a big one for the SeahawksHe was one of the best rookies in the 2022 season. Tariq Woolen could make a big impact in his return.

The same goes for Charles Cross. He is a key pass protector for Geno Smith. Charles Cross was drafted in 2022 as well as part of a strong rookie class for the Seahawks.

The Week 4 game against the Giants will be on the road. New York is 1-2 , with losses coming against the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers, and a win against the Arizona Cardinals.

The Seahawks will look to move to 3-1 after likely getting some key players back in the fold.

The Seattle Seahawks (2-1) made sure the special day for the 2013 championship team wouldn’t be spoiled. It was a slow start for Seattle, who trailed 13-9 at one point against the Carolina Panthers (0-3), but Geno Smith and company were able to move the ball at will in the 2nd half and turn those early field goals

into touchdowns. The Seahawks outscored Carolina 25-14 after intermission, going up by as much as 17 points before allowing a garbage-time TD in the team’s 37-27 victory.

Smith threw for just shy of 300 yards and had a touchdown pass to rookie sensation Jake Bobo. Kenneth Walker had well over 100 yards of offense and a couple of touchdowns, and DK Metcalf battled through injury and had over 100 receiving yards. The Seahawks defense gave up some big plays to Andy Dalton, who

threw for 361 yards on a comical 58 attempts, but Carolina was one-dimensional and couldn’t run the ball at all. Seattle’s pass coverage had some strong moments in between the uglier ones, and the pass rush was relentless getting at Dalton.

The crowd was also awesome, forcing the Panthers into a whopping eight false starts. It was reminiscent of the 2005 win over the New York Giants, who jumped 11 times.

The only bad news? A lot of injuries. A lot. Of. Injuries.

THIS. PLACE. IS. ROCKIN’.

1st Quarter

The Seahawks got the ball first for the third straight week, but unlike the last two weeks they failed to get points. Two pressures on three plays led to a punt. Andy Dalton got crunched on a 3rd down completion to Adam Thielen, and that hit by Julian Love resulted in a roughing penalty. Carolina got into the red zone

only for Boye Mafe to knock them backwards with an 11-yard sack. Then a hold on Tommy Tremble led to 3rd and 26. Adam Thielen caught a quick screen and Eddy Pineiro booted one through the uprights to put Carolina on the board.

Seattle benefited from an iffy face mask call on Justin Houston, which gave them a free 15 on a Ken Walker run. A big pass to DK Metcalf set them up in Carolina territory, but a 3rd and 1 direct snap to Walker was snuffed. On 4th and 1 at Carolina’s 29, Pete Carroll went for it and Walker just about got it. Iffy spot,

really bizarre measurement! Seattle would have to settle for a field goal, which Jason Myers converted from 43.

Carolina had another drive destroyed by a sack, this time courtesy of Jarran Reed and friends on a blitz.

2nd Quarter

Seattle got the ball back and it only took a few plays to get into Carolina’s red zone, with Geno hitting DK Metcalf deep down the field on a beautiful throw. Evan Brown wiped out a Zach Charbonnet run to the 3 by committing a holding penalty. A sack by Brian Burns backed them up, so Myers had to kick another field

goal to give the Seahawks the lead.

Andy Dalton got the ball back and the Panthers went three-and-out swiftly. The Seahawks started at their own 39 and it became the Ken Walker show. Two runs and two very successful plays, including a 36-yard scamper off a sick cut to the outside. Unfortunately the drive stalled out again and Seattle settled for 3

again.

The Panthers finally sustained a drive into Seattle territory, off the back of a nifty 15-yard run by Miles Sanders. On 3rd and 10 from the 47, Dalton found a wide open DJ Chark on a busted coverage for a 47-yard touchdown.

Geno nearly threw a pick on 1st down, got sacked on 2nd down, then actually picked on 3rd down. He was looking for Jaxon Smith-Njigba and found the linebacker Deion Jones instead, setting up Carolina at the 28. Carolina false started and were behind the sticks from the start, and the Seahawks defense held firm.

Eddy Pineiro made another field goal.

Geno responded with a 20-yard throw to Metcalf, and then a 22-yard catch-and-run by DK to put the Seahawks in the red zone. Three straight incomplete passes ensued, resulting in another field goal attempt for Myers to close the gap to 1.

The toes though! Playing like a vet! #Seahawks #MoreBobo

3rd Quarter

The Panthers went three-and-out to start the half, so a good start for the defense. Again the Seahawks were able to move the ball effectively down the field, but pressure from Justin Houston forced a 3rd and 4 incomplete pass by Geno. Jason Myers put one through from 39 to give Seattle the lead.

DJ Chark made a ridiculous catch along the sidelines for 28 yards on Mike Jackson, which was doubly bad because Pete Carroll threw the challenge flag and lost. The Panthers were in field goal range but Pineiro missed wide right from 55.

The Seahawks were backed up after a blindside block penalty on DK Metcalf, who went too far on a Ken Walker run. No problem because on 1st and 21, Geno found Walker wide open for 36 yards deep into Carolina territory. Noah Fant was open in the middle of the field to set up the first goal-to-go for either team in

the game. Two Walker runs got the Seahawks to the 1. The third one scored the Seahawks’ first TD.

Devon Witherspoon thought he had a 3rd down stop but was flagged for a very debatable pass interference. The next 3rd down was heaved down the field for Adam Thielen, who beat Artie Burns for a big conversion. Thielen was open on a shallow crosser and got to the 1-yard line to end the quarter.

4th Quarter

Miles Sanders scored his first touchdown as a Panther to open the 4th, cutting the lead back down to 2.

Two throws to tight ends yielded first down plays by Colby Parkinson and Noah Fant. The Fant catch put the Seahawks in Carolina territory once again. Then it was the Zach Charbonnet show on three consecutive carries, including an extra few yards because of a stupid body slam penalty by Deion Jones. Ken Walker

came in and finished things off with a 7-yard score.

Carolina really was in must-score territory and things were going well up until a comical sequence of back-to-back false starts put them at 3rd and 14. Then after Dalton threw incomplete, Frank Reich opted to punt and then the Panthers false started for an EIGHTH time in the game.

After a Seahawks three-and-out, Carolina had one more chance and did pretty much nothing with it. Dalton had a 4th and 2 conversion to Miles Sanders negated by an illegal shift, and then Jarran Reed sacked Dalton to force the turnover on downs.

The Seahawks went into bully ball mode and Zach Charbonnet made this poor Panthers defender almost slide into the locker room. Then it was Jake Bobo time for his first NFL touchdown! He tapped the toes, and got his first score. Then Geno and Lockett did this ridiculousness.

Dalton got a garbage-time drive going and Adam Thielen scored a deserved TD for his efforts.

The Seattle Seahawks had themselves a day. After an overtime thriller against the Detroit Lions, they came out a bit sluggish against an injury-plagued and overmatched Carolina Panthers squad starting Andy Dalton at quarterback. Well, if you are a Seahawks fan (which I am assuming you probably are), you are

aware that this team has struggled to beat Mr. Dalton in the past. Heading into today’s game, they were 1-3 against the former TCU Horned Frogs star. Well, now you can update that record to 2-3.

The Seahawks were suffering from a plethora of injuries, as well, and for much of the first half, this looked like it was turning into another half-hearted snoozer of a performance at home. Fortunately, Jason Myers shook off his early season rust and made five straight field goals to give the team a 15-13 lead early in

the third quarter; a lead they would continue to pile on for the rest of the game. He wasn’t the only sharp player in this win, as the team saw a pair of their highly drafted rookies — Devon Witherspoon and Zach Charbonnet — make an impression on the field... and on opposing players. Even Jake Bobo got in on the

action! And I guess you could say this got some people talking...

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is a good — maybe even great — NFL wide receiver. He is 6-foot-4, 235 pounds, looks like a Greek god, and runs as fast as Olympic sprinters. Still, despite all his physical gifts, ahead of the Seahawks Week 3 game against the Carolina Panthers, Metcalf says success in the

NFL is more about brains than brawn.

“I believe [preparation] is what separates a lot of the good players from the great players,” DK Metcalf said on the KG Certified show with NBA Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett. “How much knowledge they retain from the week.”

Metcalf went on to tell KG that he started watching a ton of film with a wide receivers coach a few years ago, and studying how cornerbacks and safeties like to play, how they cover and tackle, and what their tendencies are.

The Seahawks wideout also studies the greats. Metcalf listed his favorite former NFL WRs to watch on tape as Calvin Johnson, Terrell Owens, Randy Moss, and Julio Jones. The Mississippi native also said that “Megatron” was his favorite player growing up.

This season, Metcalf’s tape study and knowledge retention are starting to pay off. He only had three catches in Week 1 for 47 yards, but he did catch a touchdown. In Week 2, he grabbed all six of his targets from Geno Smith and put up 75 rushing yards.

Ahead of the Seahawks Week 3 tilt with the Panthers, DK Metcalf studied corners CJ Henderson and Donte Jackson as well as safeties Xavier Woods and Vonn Bell. One top CB he will not face is Jaycee Horn, who is on injured reserve.

The Seattle Seahawks are looking to ride their momentum from their win against the Lions in Week 3. Against the Carolina Panthers, Seattle is hoping to keep their offense in full swing while tightening the screws on defense. However, there was a big question mark for the Seahawks before Week 3: DK

Thankfully, Geno Smith will have one of his top weapons in tow for the game. The Seahawks are expecting DK Metcalf to play in their Week 3 tilt against the Panthers, per Adam Schefter.

“Seahawks’ WR D.K. Metcalf, listed as questionable for Sunday due to a rib injury, is expected to play vs. the Panthers, per source.”

On the other hand, the Seahawks still won’t be having star safety Jamal Adams for Week 3. Adams is recovering from a torn quad injury that sidelined him for the entire season. Despite missing the game against the Panthers, Seattle expects the star safety to return next week against the New York Giants.

“Seahawks safety Jamal Adams, who has not played a game since suffering a season-ending torn quad in week 1 of last season 377 days ago but is listed as questionable for Sunday, is not expected to play vs. the Panthers, per source. Adams has a strong chance to make his return next Monday night vs. the Giants,

per source.”

After getting throttled by the Rams in Week 1, the Seahawks bounced back in a shootout win over the Detroit Lions the following week. Going toe-to-toe with the Lions’ high-powered offense is no easy feat, but Seattle managed to do that. The team should be careful going up against a defense like the Panthers, who

have some hidden gems that can terrorize offenses.
