UW football game at Oregon canceled due to number of Husky players with COVID-19
The Pac-12 confirmed the UW football game at Oregon has been canceled due to a number of positive football student-athlete COVID-19 cases on Washington's team.
SEATTLE — The University of Washington Huskies Football team will not play against Oregon this weekend after the team reported an increase in positive COVID-19 tests within the program.
The Pac-12 released a statement Thursday that said, "After consultation with Washington, the Pac-12 Conference announced the game involving Washington at Oregon scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 12 has been cancelled. This decision was made under the Pac-12's
football game cancellation policy due to Washington not having the minimum number of scholarship student-athletes available for the game due to a number of positive football student-athlete COVID-19 cases and resulting isolation of additional football student-
athletes under contact tracing protocols."
The game will be declared a no contest.
The announcement comes just a day after the UW football team decided to pause "all team-related football activities" due to an increase in positive COVID-19 tests, according to UW officials.
It's unclear what comes next for the Pac-12 Conference Title game.

FINAL
Stanford 31 vs 26 WASH
Washington Falls to Stanford, 31-26
@UW_Football The BEST fans in the country. Husky Nation is always with us. #PurpleReign #BowDown
Final from Seattle.
SEATTLE (AP) -- Austin Jones rushed for a pair of first-half touchdowns, Davis Mills threw a 3-yard scoring pass to Scooter Harrington early in the second half, and Stanford held off No. 23 Washington's second-half comeback in a 31-26 victory Saturday.
A crazy week for Stanford that saw the Cardinal forced away from campus in California to continue their season ended with their first victory over the Huskies in Seattle since 2014. Stanford relocated its entire program from the Bay Area to Seattle this week, used a
high school for practice and even had its Friday walkthrough in a public park in the suburb of Bellevue, just across Lake Washington from Husky Stadium.
The Cardinal (2-2 Pac-12) will remain on the road before next week's game against Oregon State.
MINE ”@Ulofoshio30
First takeaway of the game for @UW_Football! @trent_mcduffie @Ulofoshio30
Mills was solid and had a pair of huge third-down conversion throws on Stanford's final drive, hitting Semi Fehoko on both to convert third-and-10 and third-and-11. The Cardinal ran the final 7:54 off the clock with a 14-play drive that was capped by Jones' 3-yard run on fourth-and-1.
Stanford was 10 of 13 on third downs and 2-for-2 on fourth down.
Mills was 20 of 30 passing for 252 yards. Jones finished with 138 yards on 31 carries.
Washington (3-1) will still likely have a chance at the Pac-12 North title if it can win at Oregon next week. But for the second straight week, the Huskies had a terrible first half and unlike last week's comeback victory over Utah, Washington fell short trying to rally
Dylan Morriswas 15 of 23 passing for 254 yards for Washington. The Huskies trailed 24-3 at halftime, but scored on each of its first three second-half possessions. Sean McGrewhad a pair of TD runs sandwiched around Morris' 1-yard sneak. McGrew's 2-yard run
with 11:03 left pulled Washington within 31-23.
Trent McDuffieforced Jones to fumble on Stanford's next drive and Edefuan Ulofoshio returned it to the Cardinal 10. But a pair of holding calls -- one of which wiped out a touchdown -- forced Washington to settle forPeyton Henry's45-yard field goal and a 31-26
The last time Washington played a home game so late in the season was 2009, when Washington wrapped up the season with a 42-10 win over California, also on Dec. 5. Weather that day was also clear, though colder than today. The official temperature at
the start of the 2009 game was 43 degrees. Today, it was 55 degrees.
The Huskies had three true freshmen start today's game, the first time any true freshmen have started on offense or defense this season: WRJalen McMillan, WRRome Odunzeand OLBSav'ell Smalls. Additionally,Jacobe Covingtonbecame the 11th true
freshman to see action when he started on the kick-off return team.
In the first quarter, bothDevin Culp (15 yards) and Jalen McMillan (16 yards) made their first career receptions.
Ty Jones'42-yard one-handed reception was the second-longest catch of his UW career. He made a 43-yard snag vs. North Dakota on Sept. 8, 2018. His 79 yards receiving set a new career high.
Rome Odunzeset career highs with five receptions and 69 yards.
Sean McGrewhas scored a rushing touchdown in three of four games this season. Today marked the first time in 36 career games that he's scored twice in the same game.
Edefuan Ulofoshiohas 10 or more tackles in three of four games this season. He set a new career high with 18 tackles. It was the most tackles by a Husky since Ben Burr-Kirven recorded 20 vs. Arizona State in 2018.
The Huskies have now gone 75-straight games without allowing their opponent to score 35 or more points, the longest such streak in Division I.
Luke Wattenbergmade his 36th consecutive start on the offensive line, the longest active streak among Huskies. Elijah Moldenand Brandon McKinneycontinued their streak of playing in every game over the last four years and have played in 44 total games.

SEATTLE — Elijah Molden saw Trent McDuffie pull in Utah’s final desperation throw and was overcome by a wave of excitement, jubilation and relief.
After a miserable first half, Molden and his teammates pulled off one of the biggest comebacks in Washington’s history.
“I was actually pretty emotional to be honest, just because that was a street fight of a game,” Molden said.
Down 21-0 at halftime, Washington capped its comeback with Dylan Morris hitting Cade Otton on a 16-yard touchdown pass with 36 seconds left to give the Huskies a 24-21 win Saturday against Utah.
Morris and Otton were the stars on the final drive, and McDuffie’s interception of Jake Bentley’s desperation heave in the final moments clinched the stunning comeback.
🚨Sound the Siren: Harry the Husky 🚨
This is what we prepare for. It's time to COMPETE.
It was the fifth time in school history Washington (3-0, 3-0) rallied from a deficit of 21 or more points to win, and the first since 1989 when the Huskies trailed UCLA 21-0 and rallied for a 28-27 win.
Morris was brilliant on Washington’s final drive, taking the Huskies 88 yards in less than four minutes, capping the winning drive by rolling to his left and throwing across his body to find his big tight end. Otton, who is the great-grandson of Glenette Otton, 104, of
Lewiston, had eight catches for 108 yards and a pair of second-half scoring receptions.
Morris was 23-of-38 for 272 yards with three interceptions. He was 6-of-9 for 71 yards on Washington’s final drive.
“That’s the type of calm that he has through adverse situations,” Washington coach Jimmy Lake said. “Really that sequence right there really captures what Dylan Morris is about.”
The unexpected matchup between the Utes and Huskies came after both teams had their originally scheduled games canceled due to COVID-19 issues with their opponents. Washington was supposed to play rival Washington State while Utah was scheduled to travel
to Arizona State.
Jake Bentley was 16-of-23 for 144 yards and one touchdown in his first start for Utah. But Bentley also threw two interceptions, including one in the third quarter that helped Washington’s comeback.
Ty Jordan rushed for 97 yards as Utah (0-2) rolled up 215 yards rushing. But Jordan also had a costly fumble in the fourth quarter deep in Washington territory that cost the Utes a chance to pad their lead.
Sound the Siren: Jermaine Kearse, Back on Montlake and new on the Washington football staff, Jermaine Kearse sounds the siren ahead of the Huskies' second home game at the Greatest Setting.
Make it 2-0 for @UW_Football! First time since 2017 the Huskies are off to a 2-0 start.
SEATTLE (AP) —Dylan Morristhrew for 230 yards and two touchdowns, Washington got rushing touchdowns from three different running backs, and the Huskies routed Arizona 44-27 on Saturday night.
Washington (2-0) was thoroughly dominant, jumping to a 24-0 halftime lead and led 37-0 before Arizona finally found the end zone early in the fourth quarter. For a while, it appeared the Huskies could be in line to post their first Pac-12 shutout since a 30-0 win
over Washington State in the 2009 Apple Cup, but the Wildcats feasted on Washington's backup defense in the fourth quarter.
While the Huskies defense stifled the Wildcats for three quarters, it was Morris and the Washington offense that showed efficiency and explosiveness that was absent in last week's opening win over Oregon State.
It started on the opening drive when Morris hit Puka Nacua on a 65-yard catch-and-run touchdown. He added a 20-yard TD pass to Cade Otton midway through the third quarter to give the Huskies a 37-0 lead. And in between, the Huskies got TD runs from Kamari
Pleasant, Sean McGrew and Richard Newton.
Newton added a second TD early in the fourth quarter on a 54-yard run.
Morris finished 15-of-25 passing and his numbers would have been significantly higher if not for a handful of dropped passes. His TD strike to Nacua was his first career TD pass, but his favorite target was Otton. The Huskies talented tight end had a career-high
seven catches for 100 yards.
Arizona (0-2) lost its ninth straight game dating back to last season — a streak that started with a home loss to Washington — and took a step back from last week's loss to USC.

The dawgs keep on rolling @UW_Football gets their 4th touchdown of the game!
The same offense that rolled up more than 400 total yards and scored 30 points on the Trojans managed just 66 yards through three quarters against Washington. Arizona didn't have a pass play longer than 14 yards until a 30-yard TD catch by Stanley Berryhill III
early in the fourth quarter. For the first three quarters, Arizona averaged just 1.8 yards per play.
Arizona quarterback Grant Gunnell was 27 of 39 for 259 yards and three touchdowns, almost all of those numbers coming in the fourth quarter against Washington's reserves. He was sacked five times, twice by Zion Tupuola-Fetui.
Gary Brightwell was held to 55 yards rushing after having 112 last week against USC.
Game ball performance!
THE TAKEAWAY
Washington: The Huskies continued to use their stable of running backs. Four different running backs had at least six carries and Washington had 233 yards rushing. Newton led the way with 81 yards thanks to his breakaway run in the fourth quarter. Pleasant had
six carries for 43 yards and Cameron Davis had 40 yards on six carries.

The Huskies outrun the Beavers in their 27-21 victory
Dawgs Unleashed
By Raymond Lucas Jr.
In the 329 days since the Washington Huskies last took the field and beat the Boise State Broncos, we have seen many changes to our everyday lives. On Saturday night, life began to feel a little more normal while watching the ‘Dawgs beat the Oregon State
The Beavers certainly were not the opening matchup that Washington was expecting but if the daunting year of 2020 has taught us anything, it’s to expect the unexpected. Yet still, Michigan, Stanford, and California all have been slated as UW’s opening opponent at
some point this year, and let me just say it feels great to finally watch Washington make their season debut.
The two biggest questions centered around UW have been about how the Jimmy Lake era will go and who will start at quarterback. Well, questions about Coach Lake will take a bit of time to answer but we finally got our answer about who would call the signals after
weeks of over-analyzing tweets. Before the game, media members in the press box began to notice Morris warming up with the first team and it all became official when he came out tripping out for Washington’s first possession of the season.
In his opening drive, Morris came out and completed 3/4 of his passes before the Dawgs ran into a fourth down that led to complete insanity.
On 4th and 6 at the Beavers 40 yard line, senior punter Race Porter had to field a bad snap and made the mistake of trying to punt it. The punt was blocked and returned for an 11 yard Oregon State touchdown, not ideal.
UW responded to this disaster with a quick dosage of senior running back Sean McGrew who ripped off runs of 14 and 21 yards, scoring on the latter to knot the game at 7-7 and give the Huskies their first score of the 2020-21 season.
The next scoring play came from junior kicker Peyton Henry off a 25-yard field goal, this drive again saw explosive carries from McGrew as he ripped off a 27 yarder to put Washington in striking distance. Morris nearly had his first career touchdown on this drive but
junior wideout Ty Jones could not come down with the catch after running a fade near the back right corner of the end zone.UW led 10-7.
Too easy for @smcgrew11 He ties it up for @UW_Football
LET'S. GO. DEFENSE.
Shortly after UW took their first lead of the season, they came away with their first takeaway as Oregon State QB Tristan Gebbia felt the pressure and was sacked by sophomore linebacker Zion Tupuola-Fetui, the fumble was recovered by fellow linebacker,
sophomore Edefuan Ulofoshio. If you want to win football games, you need to be able to capitalize off of turnovers and the Huskies did exactly that as they took a 17-7 lead thanks to a 3 play, 32-yard drive capped off by a 15-yard sprint from senior running back
At this point, it felt like the Beavers would be in for a thumping but OSU’s star running back Jamar Jefferson began to find running room and did not lose sight of it throughout the rest of the night. While he did not cap off the Beavers scoring drive, he had gains of
10, 16, and 17 which eventually led to them scoring from 3 yards out to cut the deficit to 17-14.
With momentum teetering from purple and gold to orange and black, the Huskies kept the ball on the ground and turned another short drive into a touchdown with Morris scoring on third and goal by way of a QB sneak. Not a wildcat, not a play-action pass, just a
sneak. Sometimes simple is just... better. UW pushed their lead out to 24-14 but again, Oregon State still had plenty of fight in them.
@ktp5_ takes it in and gives @UW_Football their biggest lead of the night
Whether it was groaning, sighs, or just straight frustrated noises, there were plenty of them that came about while watching the defense had pushed around. The Beavers were not doing anything special yet still, the Huskies could not get them off the field and build
a lead. With the opening half nearing a close, a 9 play 56-yard drive that took 1:53 off the clock once again brought the score a bit closer. The drive was capped off by Jefferson who scored from 4 yards out.
Washington led 24-21at the half.
Stripped and the Huskies have it! @UW_Football's defense is on a roll in the first half
@ZTF58 @FS1
While UW was playing good enough to have a lead, it felt that the game was a bit closer than it should have been. Perhaps those are lofty expectations considering it was their first game of the season or perhaps the expectations were justified. There is something
about Jimmy Lake that just screams motivator and with UW not executing, you can only imagine what the halftime speech sounded like.
In the second half, UW made mistakes, they had poor execution at times but still... OSU did not score another point. UW added to their lead with a 23-yard field goal which means that those were their only points of the half but they did enough to win and at the end
of the day, that’s all you can really ask for.
In Dylan Morris’s debut, he threw 14/24 for 141 yards and rushed for a touchdown. He played more of a game manager role but when the running back stable is as hot as they were, that isn’t a problem. The three-headed attack was headlined by Sean McGrew who
ran for 91 yards on 9 carries and a score, Kamari Pleasant also was busy, running 12 times for 61 yards and a touchdown and it was all capped off by Richard Newton who piled up 41 yards on 15 carries.
As frustrating as the defense was at times, they only allowed 252 yards and forced two turnovers. Without special teams errors and dropping passes by the offense, this game wouldn't have been as close and the defense would not have been under the microscope
as much. Sorry fellas!
It took weeks longer than we all would of liked but in the end, the result is bittersweet. The Huskies are now 1-0 and the journey back to the top of the conference is underway.
