BREAKING: NFL Admits That Refs Made A Giant Mistake In Jets-Cowboys Game (VIDEO)
The NFL has acknowledged that its officials made a mistake on a pivotal call during the Dallas Cowboys’ Week 2 home contest against the New York Jets on Sunday.
According to Jets reporter Brian Costello from the New York Post, the NFL informed the Jets that the refs “should not have” penalized defensive end John Franklin-Myers for “roughing the passer” on Dak Prescott.
Franklin-Myers was penalized for hitting Prescott after the Jets forced an incompletion on a 3rd-and-7 play at their own 11-yard line. As you can see in the clip below, Franklin-Myers’ contact on Prescott was simply a clean textbook hit:

Seahawks react to 37-31 overtime win 2023-09-18
Seahawks HC Pete Carroll’s 5-word Tyler Lockett message after walk-off win over Lions
Story by Dan Fappiano
In their epic battle against the Detroit Lions in Week 2, the Seattle Seahawks earned the opening possession of overtime. It didn’t take long for Tyler Lockett to make his mark on the contest and send the Seahawks home happy.
Geno Smith and the offense were able to drive the ball to the Lions’ six-yard line. Once there, with just under six minutes left in overtime, Lockett caught a touchdown pass from Smith and secured Seattle’s 37-31 victory. Head coach Pete Carroll couldn’t be happier seeing Lockett’s heroics, via Gregg Bell of the
Tacoma News Tribune.
“I hope he plays forever,” Carroll said of Lockett.
While his overtime touchdown catch stole the show, Lockett was a huge contributor for the Seahawks throughout the entire contest. He finished the game with a team-high eight receptions for 59 yards and two touchdowns. The win marked Seattle’s first of the 2023.
Pete Carroll is no stranger to watching Lockett shine. The wide receiver was drafted by Carroll and company back in 2015. He has become a focal point of the offense, earning both a Pro Bowl nod and an All-Pro nomination during his time in Seattle.
While Lockett is going on 32-years-old, Pete Carroll is hoping Tyler Lockett and his playmaking ability never leave Seattle. His performance against the Lions was just a long line of games in which the wide receiver has come up clutch for the Seahawks.
As they continue on throughout the 2023, Carroll will be looking for Lockett to continue his explosive play. If it were up to him, Lockett’s explosiveness would never cease to end.
Geno Smith tried too hard to keep a broken play alive.
Up 31-28 over the Detroit Lions, the Seattle Seahawks faced a 3rd-and-18 right before the fourth quarter's two-minute warning. Seattle ran a shotgun formation with an empty backfield, but Smith's pocket began to collapse.
He moved up and then backward to evade Detroit's pass-rushers. Rather than throwing it away or giving himself up, he stopped and kept running the wrong way across the field.
Three Lions defenders cornered Smith until Alex Anzalone sacked him at the three. Here's a look at the play that cost Seattle 17 yards of field position.
The sack had significant ramifications for the Seahawks, who gave the Lions the ball back at midfield after a punt. Detroit moved to the 20 before Riley Patterson hit a game-tying field goal to end regulation.
However, Smith made up for his miscue by throwing a game-winning touchdown to Tyler Lockett in overtime. The 32-year-old completed 32 of 41 passes for 328 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-31 victory.
Smith needed that type of outing after settling for 112 yards -- his lowest tally as a starter for Seattle -- in Week 1's 30-13 home loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Defeating Detroit also proved monumental last year, as the tiebreaker gave the Seahawks a playoff spot.
Smith will look to lead another win when Seattle hosts the Carolina Panthers in Week 3.
Deion Sanders makes Jay Norvell admission after wild 2OT win over Colorado State
The Colorado football program continued their surge in the national spotlight, barely escaping Colorado State on Saturday night in Boulder in a two overtime thriller.
Deion Sanders spoke candidly after the game about the contentious chatter during the week with his opposing coach. Rams coach Jay Norvell had previously made comments about Deion wearing sunglasses and hats everywhere, which Sanders turned into a show and gave all of his players glasses.
“I’m happy for the brother. I really am,” Sanders said, per Kyle Bonagura of ESPN. “I’m happy that they fought, that they played a good game. I’m happy he’s the head coach. I’m happy for any brother that’s doing it and is successful man. I truly am. I don’t know where all this stuff comes from. I had to respond because — my mama taught me that.”
Norvell clarified ahead of the game that there was no bad blood, and that his comments were taken out of context earlier in the week. That didn’t stop Sanders from taking it ‘personal’ as the Buffs protected their home turf in the heated rivalry, and he knew he couldn’t let Norvell come in and beat him.
“Truthfully, there’s one point in the game. I said we can’t let this dude win,” Sanders said. “There ain’t no way we let this dude win. This press conference is going to be unbearable if we let this dude win.”
There were several such moments, but the Buffaloes showed resiliency and bounced back when it seemed insurmountable. A 98-yard drive with just two minutes on the clock took the team into overtime, where they outlasted the Colorado State attack in the second period.
Colorado will carry the comeback energy into Eugene next weekend to face a top-15 Oregon Ducks squad. The Buffaloes defense will have their work cut out for them against an Oregon attack that is averaging an absurd 58 points so far this season. They open as an early 17-point underdog, but bets will likely be flying on the best show in college football as they have in the first three games.

Pete Carroll’s net worth in 2023
Pete Carroll’s net worth in 2023 is $40 million. Carroll is the current head coach and executive vice president of the Seattle Seahawks. He is one of the most decorated coaches in football history as he also led USC to multiple championships. He is also one of three football coaches to have won a college football
national championship and a Super Bowl. In this article, we will talk about Pete Carroll’s net worth in 2023.
Pete Carroll’s net worth in 2023 is an estimated $40 million. This is according to multiple sources such as Celebrity Net Worth.
Despite receiving many offers from NFL teams to become a defensive coordinator, Pete Carroll instead spent his time as a consultant for pro and collegiate teams, doing charitable works for the NFL, and writing a pro football column for CCNSI.com.
Pete Carroll becomes head coach at USC
On Dec. 15, 2000, Pete Carroll signed a five-year contract to become the head coach of the USC football team. However, he was not the first choice as the USC Athletic Department under Director Mike Garrett was looking for a high-profile coach with recent college experience.
The hiring of Pete Carroll as USC’s new head coach was criticized by the media and many USC fans and alumni — many of which were asking for the removal of Carroll before they started donating again — due to his NFL coaching record and being nearly two decades removed from the college football game.
Despite a slow start in the 2001 season where they posted an early 2-5 record, Carroll and the Trojans eventually picked up the pace and posted a record of 67-7 over the next 74 games. This includes record-breaking win streaks and multiple championships.
Pete Carroll’s USC Trojans Accomplishments:
- 2x BCS Championship Game Appearance (2005 win over Oklahoma and 2006 loss to Texas)
- Back-to-Back The Associated Press National Championship (2003-2004)
- 6x BCS Bowl Victories
- Seven straight BCS Bowl Appearances
- National Record – 33 Consecutive Weeks as the AP’s No. 1 Ranked Team
- NCAA Record – 63 straight 20-point games
- 25 First-team All-Americans
- 53 players selected in the NFL Draft – 14 in the 1st round
- Three Heisman Trophy Winners – Carson Palmer (2002), Matt Leinart (2004), Reggie Bush (2005, vacated)
- 2003-2004 season – 34-game win streak
Unfortunately, the NCAA announced sanctions in 2010 against USC, including a two-year bowl ban, elimination of thirty scholarships, forfeiture of some victories during the 2003-2004 season, and all wins in the undefeated 2005-2006 regular season.
This is due to the recruitment of former USC Trojan Reggie Bush where it was found that the player accepted improper gifts.
Pete Carroll becomes head coach of the Seahawks
After his stint with the USC Trojans, Pete Carroll signed a five-year $33 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks to become their new head coach. On top of that, he was also named as the executive vice president of football operations, effectively making him the general manager.
In his first two seasons with the Seahawks, the team finished with an identical 7-9 record for both years. In his third year, Carroll, along with rookie quarterback Russell Wilson, led the Seahawks to an 11-5 record — his first winning season with Seattle — and an undefeated record at home.
The Seahawks finished the 2013 season with a 13-3 record. In the playoffs, Seattle cruised past the New Orleans Saints and the San Francisco 49ers to book a ticket to the Super Bowl.
On Feb. 2, 2014, the Seattle Seahawks faced the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. They dominated the game with a score of 43-8 as Pete Carroll led the Seahawks to their first-ever Super Bowl win in franchise history.
Pete Carroll joins Barry Switzer and Jimmy Johnson as the only coaches to both win an NCAA Championship and a Super Bowl.
The following season, the Seattle Seahawks were the NFC Champions once again as they booked another trip to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, they lost against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX with a score of 28-24.
From the 2015 season through the 2022 season, Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks have a total record of 68 wins and 51 losses. They held a winning record for almost all of those seasons except the 2021 season. Pete Carroll signed a four-year contract extension with the Seahawks on Nov. 8, 2020, making him
the second-highest-paid coach in the NFL with an $11 million salary. Obviously, all of this helps to contribute to Pete Carroll’s net worth in 2023.
Pete Carroll’s Career Coaching Achievements:
- Super Bowl XLVIII Champion
- 2x National Champion (2003, 2004)
- 4x Rose Bowl Champion (2003, 2006-2008)
- Orange Bowl Champion (2002)
- 7x Pac-10 Champion (2002-2008)
- Member of the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team
- 2003 Home Depot Coach of the Year Award Winner
- 2003 AFCA Coach of the Year Award Winner
Nevertheless, did Pete Carroll’s net worth in 2023 surprise you?

Madden 24 – Seahawks Players Give Hilarious Reactions To Player Ratings
The Madden 24 player ratings were unveiled back in June, but it seems some Seattle Seahawks players don’t quite yet know their overalls. For the ones that do, they certainly have their own opinions on no players receiving a 90+ rating. In fact, the highest rated player on the Seahawks is a tie between MLB Bobby
Wagner and WR Tyler Lockett.
For reference, the Seahawks went into the 2022 season looking like a team in a rebuilding phase. However they proved haters wrong last season, mounting up a 9-8 record and making it to the playoffs. While they lost the 49ers in the Wild Card Round, the season was considered a success. With the resurgence of
veteran QB Geno Smith, coupled with the young talent they have in Tariq Woolen and DK Metcalf, people are excited to see how high the Hawks can soar in 2023.
The Seahawks posted a video on their twitter account asking players on the team who got a 90 overall rating. This lead to multiple hilarious reactions, as well as who they believed deserve a 90+ overall.
You can check out the video below:
Seahawks Players React To Madden 24 Ratings
The 60-second video is available on the Seattle Seahawks Twitter page.
The video starts with DT Myles Adams right off the bat saying “D Lock (Drew Lock), Bobby (Wagner), Diggs (Quandre Diggs)”. He was told right away that none of those three made the cut. Quandre Diggs has been a pro bowler 3 years in a row but remains an 87 overall, interestingly.
First round pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba couldn’t help but wonder if the question was even real. He starts his Madden career with a 78 OVR.
Drew Lock hilariously walks past the camera, only saying “It better be Geno Smith.” Geno Smith enters Madden 24 with an 81 overall, putting him in the top 20 QBs list. Strong Safety Julian love didn’t waste any time, shouting “Not a damn soul, and that’s a travesty.” Love is an 80 overall.
fifth-round rookie Mike Morris was about to guess before his teammate shouted his name. He couldn’t help but smile, though he still has work to do to prove he’s a 90 overall, much less a starting NFL player.
UDFA Joey Blount noted that the team had a couple of 87s and 89s, but still noted how the developers did them dirty. WR John Hall adamantly supported Smith, saying he “Needs to be about a 97.”
Rising Star Tariq (now, Riq) Woolen, had no choice but to make his case for a high overall: “Madden, if you’re looking at this, Imma a vouch for me right now because I can only talk about myself. I feel like I should be a 93 on the game. Woolen holds an 83 overall, currently.
There are plenty of more great reactions in the video, but we’ll let you check it out for yourself. We’ll see if the Seahawks use this as motivation to prove even more haters wrong in 2023.
Madden 24 Release Date
Madden 24 launches on August 18th for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via EA App, Steam, and Epic Games Store. You can play the game on August 15th if you pre-order the Deluxe Edition.
The developers plan to release a Superstar Deep Dive tomorrow, focusing on the return of the mode, and everything new. In the meanwhile, you can check out their recent deep dive on Ultimate Team.
Pete Carroll drops Devon Witherspoon injury update, but there’s a catch
Seattle Seahawks fans held their breath when rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon sustained an injury during training camp practice Monday. The good news for Seattle is the injury isn’t serious.
However, Witherspoon will miss more some time due to the hamstring injury he sustained, which has kept him out of practice since Monday. “Pete says Spoon’s hamstring isn’t serious, but he doesn’t know when Spoon will be back,” per Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic.
The injury will certainly keep Witherspoon out of the Seahawks first preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings Thursday. He missed time in training camp earlier while holding out for his rookie contract. The team will hope he can return in time for the start of the regular season next month.
Devon Witherspoon previously injured his hamstring prior to the NFL draft, but that injury was in a different spot. There is no indication that the two are correlated.
Seattle selected Witherspoon fifth overall out of Illinois, making him the first cornerback off the board in 2023. At Illinois, he was a consensus All-American in 2022 and the winner of the Tatum-Woodson Defensive Back of the Year award. Despite being slightly undersized at just 180 lbs., Witherspoon was a highly regarded prospect coming into the draft.
Witherspoon, who Carroll has compared to Steelers Hall of Fame safety Troy Polamalu, will join Tariq Woolen in the secondary to potentially form one of the best young cornerback duos in the league. Woolen comes off a Pro Bowl rookie season where he led the league in interceptions and finished top-3 in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.
If Witherspoon and Woolen succeed as a duo, Seattle will have their best secondary since the Legion of Boom days.

Bobby Wagner explains what the issues were and how Seahawks plan to change the run defense
BY GREGG BELL/THE NEWS TRIBUNE
Bobby Wagner, Uchenna Nwosu, Dre’Mont Jones, Jarran Reed — heck, seemingly every Seahawks defensive player back to Joe Nash — are talking about it. The buzzwords of this training camp, this season, are: Stop the run. Or, at least slow it down. Slow it better than Seattle did last season. As you may have
noticed and heard, the Seahawks were 30th in the NFL in rushing defense in 2022. They spent much of last season on pace to allow 170 yards on the ground per game. That would have been the most in team history. The Seahawks finished surrendering over 150, thanks to a late-season blip that wasn’t exactly
something to be proud of. Now? “We are making more of an emphasis on the run game,” Nwsou, the team’s sack leader last season, said, “and everybody is buying into the culture and the scheme.”
Asked what’s different now than during last fall into winter, when Seattle spent most of last season allowing the most rushing yards in team history, Nwosu said: “An emphasis on everybody buying in.” So far, so good. Yet so inconclusive, obviously. One week into camp following Wednesday’s players off day, the
defensive front has been stressing the importance of their biggest problem from 2022: “run fits.” That is, the assigned defender being in his assigned gap at the assigned time. Too often last season, linemen got blocked out of their gap. Or, worse, they went to the wrong one. Opposing blockers were free through the
rush lane to get onto the “second level” to block the Seahawks who are paid to make tackles for short running gains, the linebackers. They were often in wrong places, too. Wagner missed coach Pete Carroll’s transition last year from his half-century-old 4-3 scheme to the 3-4 Seattle played for the first time under
Carroll in 2022. The Seahawks cut Wagner in the spring of 2022 to save $16 million in salary-cap space. He watched while playing for the rival Los Angeles Rams, and noticed studying game film of his new-old Seahawks defense he signed back onto this spring, what Seattle’s problems were with run fits. So many
Seahawks coaches and defensive players talked about “fits” last season they started sounding like shoe salesmen at Nordstrom. But what does “run fits” actually mean? Fans react as Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs (28) runs 86 yards into the end zone for the game-winning touchdown in overtime of an
NFL game on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022, at Lumen Field in Seattle. Las Vegas beat Seattle, 40-34. Pete Caster Pete Caster / The News Tribune DEFINING SEATTLE’S RUN-FIT PROBLEM Wagner explained it this week. He said the biggest issue for the run defense last year was opposing offenses confused the Seahawks’
front seven before the snap. That caused the defense to go to the wrong places. Offensive linemen had no one to block at the point of attack. Running backs had yards of space before another, unassigned Seahawk — often a defensive back who was aligned 8-10 yards off the ball at the snap — showed up. That,
specifically, is what Hurtt, Wagner, Carroll and the defense are stressing the most this summer: Adjusting to pre-snap motion; adjusting each defender’s run-gap responsibilities accordingly, on the fly. “Let’s say you have an A or B gap (a defender being assigned the offensive guard-center or guard-tackle gap). They
are not just going to line up and come right at you,” Wagner said of offenses. “They’re going to move a guy. They’re going to motion a guy (before the snap). And all of those motions change a gap. “So, you have to know what your gap is after that, and just having an understanding.”

Free agent running backs to target amid Seahawks’ Kenneth Walker III, Zach Charbonnet injuries
The Seattle Seahawks are preparing for the 2023 NFL season with high expectations after exceeding their expectations in 2022. In the first year behind Geno Smith, many believed that the Seahawks would really struggle. In reality, Smith thrived on his way to becoming the AP Comeback Player of the Year. He led
the Seahawks to a playoff appearance and in turn netted a massive contract this NFL offseason. Going into 2023, Smith and the Seahawks are now expected to be competitors in a tough NFC West, and they definitely have the talent on offense to put up a lot of points. Returning for Seattle is Smith, Kenneth Walker
III, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Noah Fant. Along with these guys are rookies Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Zach Charbonnet; overall, the Seahawks are loaded with talent for Geno Smith to use at his disposal. Despite the excitement, Seahawks training camp has already caused some setbacks, as injuries to both Walker
III and Charbonnet now have the Seattle RB room in flux. This is why there are three free agent running backs in particular that the Seahawks need to target during training camp. Before the 2023 NFL regular season begins, the Seahawks need to target Ezekiel Elliott, Leonard Fournette, and Kareem Hunt.
Both the injuries to Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet don’t figure to be serious as of now, but it is not a good sign to start training camp. If the Seahawks start the regular season without their running back room ready, it would be prudent of them to get in contact with one of the remaining free agent running
backs. Elliott, Fournette and Hunt are all proven veteran running backs who could fit in pretty seamlessly into the Seahawks system. Not to mention, Elliott and Fournette are 28-years-old while Hunt is 27-years-old, so they still have plenty of good football left to give the game. While the Seahawks allow Walker III and Charbonnet to nurse their injuries, they need to reach out to free agent running backs Ezekiel Elliott, Leonard Fournette and Kareem Hunt.
*Free Agents via Spotrac
Ezekiel Elliott
Ezekiel Elliott clearly lost a step last season as he ceded carries to Tony Pollard on the Dallas Cowboys. This culminated with the Cowboys releasing him this summer, and he has had a pretty quiet free agency thus far. Nevertheless, the injuries to the Seahawks running back room has definitely freed up an opportunity for him in
Seattle. Despite his less productive year last season, Elliott still has the potential to be a bruiser and earn the tough yards. This would be big for a Seattle team that expects to be very explosive in both the passing and running games; adding a back like Elliott would help them maintain a balance within their offensive system so
that they don’t get too greedy trying to go for the big play. Elliott would also be a great back to mentor both Walker and Charbonnet, as he was once considered the best running back in the league. He would easily be able to give Walker and Charbonnet some tips and tricks that could propel them to elite status.
Leonard Fournette
The main reason that the Seahawks should target Leonard Fournette is his playoff success. Like Elliott, Fournette has been one of the best at running between the tackles and could help the Seahawks maintain a balanced offense. Nevertheless, he would be more important for his veteran leadership that could be a
huge asset for a team that has playoff aspirations. Fournette is a Super Bowl winner and has played the best football of his career in the postseason, so he would definitely help in getting the Seahawks focused for the postseason and ready to play if they were to find themselves in elimination football. While the
Seahawks continue to monitor what is best for Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet, Leonard Fournette should definitely be a free agent target for them.
Kareem Hunt
Kareem Hunt is a great target for the Seahawks specifically because of his style of play. Hunt plays very similarly to both Walker III and Charbonnet; big running backs who excel in both the passing and rushing game and are much faster than expected. Not to mention, Hunt has been elite when given the
opportunity to be a primary back, and there is no saying that he wouldn’t be if the Seahawks signed him. The 27-year-old back had very strong flashes with the Cleveland Browns but was never unleashed due to the presence of Nick Chubb on the roster. If Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet end up missing
regular season games, Kareem Hunt could come in and help the Seahawks not even skip a beat. Out of all the free agent running backs available, Kareem Hunt is definitely a strong target for the Seahawks.

Viral Video Surfaces Of Bills Star Josh Allen Fighting 6’6, 341 Pound DT Jordan Phillips During Training Camp Practice (VIDEO)
Story by Darrelle Lincoln
We are at that time of the year when tempers will be flaring between teammates as they head into training camps where the heat will not feel good and everybody will be on edge.
Today we are looking back at a time Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen got into a heated scuffle with a 341-pound player.
The Buffalo Bills had their first fight of 2022 training camp right as the practice was winding down and the first-teamers were conducting team drills. The play called was a designed run for the QB up the middle.
Allen collided with defensive tackle Jordan Phillips who put a bit of shoulder contact on Allen and the quarterback did not like it. Allen immediately turned around and gave a bit of a shove back.
All hell soon broke loose. Everyone else on the field then got involved and tempers flared.
The team does not allow the media to record team drills at practice, but fans watching the session certainly did so.
Defensive tackle Jordan Phillips re-signed with the team via a one-year, $3 million deal this offseason. Phillips had his breakout year with the Bills in 2019. He mustered together 9.5 sacks in 16 games that season.
In 2022, Phillips appeared in Buffalo’s defensive line rotation for 12 games. When Phillips was on the field, he managed 20 tackles, including three for loss, with 1.5 sacks.
He is clearly a big part of the team, so the scuffle did not hurt his standing with the team.
MLB Fans Ripped Ump for Being Way Too Sensitive After Very Quick Ejection
Story by Andy Nesbitt
A’s first baseman Ryan Noda suffered an immediate ejection from Monday night’s game against the Red Sox after he appeared to draw a little line in the sand after striking out, which the umpire didn’t like at all.
This was the second line-drawing ejection we’ve seen this month, but this one by Noda was pretty subtle. He wasn’t happy about a pitch earlier in the at-bat being called a strike so after swinging and missing on strike three, he drew a line in the dirt with his bat while walking back to the dugout.
Home plate umpire Emil Jimenez didn’t like that at all and quickly threw him out of the game:
I get why Jimenez might be a little upset set there, but he did seem to be way too sensitive about the whole thing.
MLB fans agreed:
24ever.

MLB world reacts to brutal Shohei Ohtani umpire incident
During Friday night’s game agains the Houston Astros, Los Angeles Angeles do-it-all star Shohei Ohtani did not exactly get the superstar treatment from the umpires as he did not get the benefit of the doubt on a pretty perfect pitch that clearly should have been called a strike.
During the game, Shohei Ohtani thought he had placed a pitch perfectly on the upper inside corner of the plate, but instead he got an absolutely brutal call from home plate umpire Ron Kulpa, who instead called the pitch a ball. This led to quite an interesting interaction between Kulpa and Ohtani between innings
where the umpire insisted that the pitch was both inside and high.
“Was that up?” Ohtani asked
“Yup,” the umpire replied.
“Or in?” Ohtani asked.
“And in,” the umpire replied.
“Oh,” Ohtani said. “Both.”
As the video shows, Kulpa was blatantly incorrect. The pitch was neither high nor was it inside – it was right on the corner and it absolutely should have been called a strike.
This interaction led to quite a few reactions on social media as fans blasted the umpire.
The Last Skip Bayless-Richard Sherman Debate Was a Trainwreck, Caused Bill Simmons to Get Suspended From Twitter
As speculation about Skip Bayless' next partner on Undisputed grows, the New York Post's Andrew Marchand threw a new name and wrinkle into the mix yesterday by reporting Richard Sherman is a candidate to slide into Shannon Sharpe's empty chair. That would certainly be a juicy acquisiton and not one that
would demur to Bayless at all, which many believe the new person would be forced to do. We know this because Sherman and Skip have a bit of a history and once met for one of the tenser moments in First Take history.
Back in March 2013 the then-Seattle Seahawks cornerback stepped into the belly of the beast and sat down next to Bayless and Stephen A. Smith. He had a lot on his mind but the main objective seemed quite clear. To destroy the person who had been criticizing him. Here's a look back at the spicy encounter.
Richard Sherman VS Skip Bayless (UNEDITED)
Sherman told Bayless that the pundit had never accomplished anything and that he was better than him. Smith found himself in the rare position of being caught on his backfoot and tried his very best to broker some sort of peace accord, but those talks never got too far down the line. My blogger brain has been
fried by too much content in the decades since yet I clearly recall how big of a deal this was at the time and how it dominated a much smaller sports-media space.
Everyone was talking about it, including Bill Simmons who was still very much part of the ESPN family at the time. The Sports Guy sent out a few tweets categorizing the exchange as "awful and embarassing" while correctly pointing out that no one won. This earned him a Twitter timeout from management,
which wouldn't be the last time he clashed heads with the suits in Bristol.
Ironically enough, Smith was a guest on Bill Simmons' podcast a few days ago and they discussed the incident.
"They were like, you can't tweet about another ESPN show, you moron," Simmons said. "I was like, you're right, I shouldn't have said anything."
Sherman getting floated out there is really interesting because of the shared past. One could see how that is a feature and not a bug. It's not difficult to imagine the two having a tense but compelling chemistry. If they were to occassionally blow up, well, that's good for ratings. All in all it seems like a somewhat
inspired, if risky idea. As agents of chaos we don't feel bad about wanting to see it happen.

Oakland A’s fans continue protests at All-Star Game, chant ‘sell the team’

Oakland A’s fans were vocal at the 2023 MLB All-Star Game in Seattle.
As the franchise prepares to potentially move from Oakland to Las Vegas, a contingent of fans has pushed owner John Fisher to sell the club and keep the team in the Bay Area.
Supporters made sure to make their voices heard at the Midsummer Classic at T-Mobile Park as one fan posted a note card to Twitter from the outfield bleachers titled “Sell The Athletics All-Star Game Protest #FisherOut.”
The other side of the card called for fans to stand up during the first at-bat of the top of the fifth inning before starting chants of “Sell the team.”
And sure enough, in the top of the fifth, fans were heard chanting just that.

It wasn’t the first time in Seattle that A’s fans tried to make their voices heard.
At the first round of Sunday’s 2023 MLB Draft, fans started the same chant as the A’s selected Jacob Wilson.
In June, even as the team floundered in last place of the AL West, 27,000 fans showed up to the Oakland Coliseum as part of a reverse boycott that included coordinated chants, shirts and scores of signs.
But the noise didn’t stop there and continued in the following inning when A’s representative Brent Rooker stepped up to bat.
In the bottom of the sixth, Rooker stepped in against National League reliever Alexis Diaz and laced a double into right-center field over outfielder Juan Soto as the chants were renewed.
Green Day frontman — and Oakland native — Billie Joe Armstrong even supported the movement.
A number of former and current major league players have spoken out against the potential move, including Bryce Harper, who is a native of Las Vegas.
“I feel sorry for the fans in Oakland,” Harper told USA Today in June. “It’s just not right. They have so much history in Oakland. You’re taking a team out of a city. I’m pretty sad because of all of the history and all of the greatness they’ve seen there.”
The A’s have been in Oakland since 1968 but appear on a course to move to Las Vegas on the site of the Tropicana hotel.

Mariners’ Julio Rodriguez makes insane Home Run Derby history not even Pete Alonso accomplished
Julio Rodriguez put on an absolute show right out of the gate at Monday night’s MLB Home Run Derby. The Seattle Mariners star blasted a total of 41 home runs in the quarterfinals round of the event — more than enough to eliminate New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso from the competition.
Rodriguez also broke a Home Run Derby record with that power surge.
Via the Mariners’ public relations official Twitter account:
“@JRODshow44’s 41 home runs in the 1st round are the most in any single round in @MLB Home Run Derby history, surpassing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (40 HR) in 2019 Round 2.”
Julio Rodriguez did not give Alonso much of a chance, as he went off in front of baseball fans at the Mariners’ home park. The Mets star only managed to hit 21 home runs, the third-fewest in the quarterfinal round. (Adolis Garcia of the Texas Rangers registered only 17 home runs, while Los Angeles Dodgers star
Mookie Betts sent just 11 balls out of the field.)
It’s the second year in a row that Julio Rodriguez sent Alonso crashing out of the Derby. In 2022, Rodriguez shut the door on Alonso in the semifinals with 31 home runs to just 23 by Alonso before falling short in the finals against Juan Soto.
This time around, Rodriguez will be matched up against Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the semifinals. Guerrero was the one to eliminate Betts in the quarterfinal round to the tune of a 26-11 score.
The 22-year-old Rodriguez has 13 home runs so far in the 2023 MLB regular season.

By Daniel Kramer @DKramer_
SEATTLE -- This is his house and his city, and for Julio Rodríguez, the spectacle in the T-Mobile Home Run Derby was again spectacular.
But as was the case last year, when he finished runner-up as a rookie, Rodríguez had arguably the night’s most electric performance -- but it didn’t carry over into a crown in the jewel event.
• T-Mobile Home Run Derby: Complete coverage
2023 Home Run Derby Full Game Highlights ( Julio Rodríguez ) | 2023 MLB All-Star July 10, 2023
J-Rod crushed a Derby-record 41 homers in the opening round to dispatch the Mets’ Pete Alonso, a two-time champ. But he was eliminated in the semifinals by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. after hitting only 20 to the 21 from the Blue Jays slugger, who won the event over the Rays’ Randy Arozarena.
Rodríguez's 20 Round 2 homers
“It was electric,” Rodríguez said. “Just like the fact that we're out here and the whole crowd was into it and they were supporting me, all that. I feel like it meant the world for me, I really enjoyed it and I hope they enjoyed it too.”
Even in defeat, it was still a monumental night for the Mariners’ blossoming star and an opportunity to represent the franchise on this global stage.
The 41 homers in a single round surpassed the previous high of 40 that Guerrero hit in the second round at Cleveland’s Progressive Field in 2019, a Derby that Guerrero wound up losing in the finals, making Monday a reiteration of how vital stamina is in baseball’s prestigious power even.
Rodríguez's 41st homer of Round 1
Rodríguez took 59 swings in the opening act, according to the ESPN telecast, converting them into homers for a 69.5% rate. But he tapered off in the second round, when he swung 44 times for a conversion rate of 45.4% and saw many fly balls die deep in left-center field. Rodríguez also experienced some
diminished bat speed from the first round to the second (104.1 mph to 102.7 on his homers) and distance (404 feet to 399 feet).
J-Rod's deepest homers of Round 1
“It feels like your mind is there, but your body is not,” Rodríguez said of the fall-off. “That's the best way to explain it.”
He was at his best on Monday when using the shortest direction to the pull side, specifically aiming for the visiting bullpen and Edgar’s Cantina, as each of his 61 went to the left of straightaway center. But as the night wore on and his swing got longer, Rodríguez was more middle of the field, which led to multiple
balls landing at the warning track in his final round.
Julio Rodríguez's 452-foot homer
“I wanted to live in the moment, kind of be able to give a show to the Mariners fans and just kind of give it my all. For that second round I was just ...” Rodríguez said, exhaling in a sign of exhaustion. “But it was fun.”
“I think it was a lot of tiredness,” Rodríguez’s throwing partner, Franmy Peña, said through interpreter Freddy Llanos. “I tried to put the ball right in the same spot every single time, but I think the tiredness is what kind of got us."

Guerrero Jr vs Rodríguez HOME RUN DERBY [SEMI FINAL 2] July 10, 2023 | MLB Season 2023
Seattle’s star center fielder was looking to become the first Derby winner in his home ballpark since Bryce Harper in Washington, D.C., in 2018, and the first Mariners winner in the event since Ken Griffey Jr., who was the champion in 1994, 1997 and 1998, making him the only three-time winner.
Rodríguez was seen in the home dugout consulting Griffey just before first pitch in a moment bridging the club’s past and present.
Pre-Derby pep talk. #HRDerby
Still, Rodríguez’s epic effort in the opening round will be the type that the crowd on hand will tell their friends they were there to witness -- especially Mariners fans, who roared “Ju-Li-O” on repeat throughout his performance and who evaporated all the hype from the building when Alonso and Guerrero were at the plate.
Rodríguez was all hugs with Guerrero, even sharing insightful nuggets before they did battle.
“It definitely was really good, just to be able to talk with them, talk about baseball, and he told me before the Derby to catch the ball a little bit out front,” Rodríguez said. “And that's what I did in that first round.”
Rodríguez was the No. 7 seed by virtue of 13 homers in the first half. But now that he has the pressure behind him -- of making the All-Star team, in his own city -- maybe Monday will serve as a springboard into a strong second half.

HOUSTON -- Logan Gilbert finished the first half of the season with back-to-back stellar starts thanks to a change in pitch selection.
Gilbert threw seven strong innings in the Mariners’ 3-1 win over Houston on Sunday afternoon at Minute Maid Park, helping his team take three out of four from the second-place Astros to head into the All-Star break.
The right-hander followed up his shutout win over the Giants on Tuesday by surrendering one run on three hits with six strikeouts against the Astros.
“I always have high expectations and standards and want to help the team, especially when we were going through a little rough stretch,” Gilbert said. “It seems like everybody is playing well, the whole team right now. I’m just trying to step up and do my part when it’s my day.”
W A L T E R
Gilbert executed his pitch plan well, needing fewer than 10 pitches in three of his seven innings.
Gilbert (7-5) relied mostly on his slider and four-seam fastball. He threw 36 sliders, sitting right around 90 mph with the pitch. His 28 fastballs in the outing were consistently between 95 and 97 mph through his seven frames.
“Awesome job by Logan today,” manager Scott Servais said. “What a trip he’s had. A complete game, then today, just on top of his stuff. We’ve really seen the emergence of his breaking balls. The slider, the curveball. He still has a good fastball, but he’s really pitching well. Not just throwing well. He’s pitching well.”
Servais said throwing the slider as much as Gilbert did was part of the plan.
“I thought he threw an outstanding slider in San Francisco the other day,” Servais said. “He carried it over into today’s game. If you look at the development -- and we talk about our pitching development all the time -- these guys are not a finished product. Even Logan, as established as he is in this league, he’s
focused on getting better, and the quality of his secondary pitches has gone through the roof.”
The Astros did not get a lot of hard contact against Gilbert, hitting just one ball with an exit velocity of over 100 mph. Martín Maldonado’s solo home run in the sixth was hit at an exit velocity of 99.9 mph and barely got over the fence and the glove of Teoscar Hernández.
“Anything you leave over the plate, they have a good shot at it, especially against the fastball,” Gilbert said. “I think just a steady mix today. Cal [Raleigh] did a great job. … The way we mixed up pitches. I felt like the slider was good. I went to the curveball late, and that helped out a lot.”
Gilbert improved to 6-1 with a 3.26 ERA in 11 starts on the road this season. For his career, Gilbert improved to 19-4 with a 3.58 ERA away from Seattle.

Matt Brash worked a scoreless eighth, and Paul Sewald pitched the ninth for his 17th save.
Seattle opened a 3-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI double by Hernández and a two-run double by Jarred Kelenic. The three runs were all Gilbert needed, and the victory put the Mariners back above .500 at the break at 45-44 after winning seven of their last nine games.
“It’s definitely good to finish the first half rolling,” J.P. Crawford said. “We get these couple days to check out, regroup and finish strong. We ended the first half on a positive note, and hopefully, we keep it going when we get back."
Jarred Kelenic Laces a Two-Run Double to Right-Center
Jarred had been up earlier in the game and ground out weakly on a changeup from Astros pitcher Brandon Bielak. Bielak tried to get him again on the changeup, but this time, Jarred was ready:
Jarred Kelenic Laces a Two-Run Double to Right-Center
Jarred turned that hit into a double, because of course he did, although it wasn’t exactly softly-hit, at 101 mph EV.
Seattle sits six games back of first place Texas in the AL West and four games out of the last AL Wild Card spot entering the break following the 5-2 road trip through San Francisco and Houston.
“Really outstanding road trip,” Servais said. “We needed to respond. Our guys certainly did. We played against two really good teams and to win their last series in a row gives us a little boost going into the All-Star break.
“It hasn’t been an easy first half. There have been some struggles, but you look at where we’re at now, and we’re a game over .500. We’ll get a chance to catch our breath a little bit for four days and come out and hopefully, get back after it on the homestand.”

Mariners play Astros hard but lose late, this time 3-2
Astros execute temporal pincer movement, win by scoring in first and last innings
Woo's dominant outing falls to the wayside
Woo spins another gem
Bryan Woo closed the first half of his rookie year with brilliance, tossing his 2nd consecutive quality start.
HOUSTON -- Bryan Woo put the Mariners in the driver’s seat on Saturday night. Rebounding from giving up two runs in the first inning, the rookie right-hander settled in and retired the next 14 batters.
The offense was set up to repay the favor in the eighth. Houston reliever Hector Neris handed Seattle a bases-loaded, no-out situation with a hit-by-pitch and two walks in a 2-2 tie. But the Mariners couldn’t capitalize in a 3-2 loss at Minute Maid Park that will surely sting.
J.P. Crawford Bloops an RBI Single in the 3rd
“We’ve won six out of our last seven, been playing really good ball,” manager Scott Servais said. “But [we] had a chance to really take control of this series … and didn’t get that quality at-bat we needed there.
“[We] had them against the ropes. We just couldn’t give them the knockout punch.”
Cal Raleigh struck out. Mike Ford popped up. José Caballero watched strike three. And Neris celebrated with impunity as he wriggled out of a self-inflicted jam. Then the second of two gut-punch mistakes occurred half an inning later, as light-hitting catcher Martín Maldonado launched a go-ahead solo homer that
would seal the loss.
The silver lining? Woo’s dominance.
In his second consecutive quality start -- the July 3 outing in front of a hometown San Francisco crowd was the first of his career -- Woo retired 14 straight batters. After Houston strung together three hits and took advantage of a Dylan Moore throwing error for a second run in the first, he didn’t allow another hit.
Woo didn’t need his slider to do it either. According to Statcast, he didn’t throw a single slider and only one changeup, instead leaning on a near-equal split of four-seamers, sinkers and cutters to subdue a righty-heavy Astros’ lineup.
“The cutter was just feeling better than the slider was today,” Woo said. "[I] was able to throw it more for strikes, so just kind of is what it is. Some days, you’re not going to have some pitches. … [Today] was just one of those days.”
The decline in slider usage hasn’t just been a one-day phenomenon. According to Statcast, Woo has thrown progressively less sliders in each of his starts. Instead, the cutter -- almost a faster version of the slider with less movement -- has replaced it in recent starts. After he threw six cutters on June 27, Woo
followed with 10 his next start and 19 on Saturday night.
He was able to command it and throw it in for strikes, allowing for an efficient 78 pitches in six innings. And given that it was in question whether Woo would even be allowed to make his final start before the All-Star break -- or be given extended time off to curb his workload like George Kirby last year -- the strong
start was a big win for the rookie.
José Caballero Lines an RBI Single to Tie the Game
Woo has already far surpassed his 2022 innings total (57) after Saturday pushed him to 78 2/3 frames thrown in 2023 between the Majors and Minors. But the way the 23-year-old has evolved and proven himself as a Major League-worthy starter, it could be tough to keep him off the mound.
“I feel like I’m in a pretty good spot. Arm and body feel good,” Woo said. “I know that [the club] is kind of monitoring the innings a little bit. Day like today, where the pitch count wasn’t too high but got into the sixth, it’s frustrating as a competitor.
“But at the same time, you see where they’re coming from. … You respect their decision, and then you just do the best you can with it and continue to get better throughout the year.”

Houston Astros' Chas McCormick Admits Wrongdoing in Controversial Play vs. Seattle Mariners
Houston Astros outfielder Chas McCormick committed a controversial and potentially dirty play at the end of Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners.
McCormick hit a ball deep in the hole at shortstop and was thrown out by JP Crawford. As he was running to first base, he took a swipe at the glove of M's first baseman Ty France, who could have had his wrist, elbow or shoulder injured.
You can see the play here, which was completely unnecessary.
There's an update to the story now though, with France saying he heard from McCormick after the game about the play.
Per Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times:
Ty France didn't know that Chas McCormick intentionally swiped at his arm on that play in the ninth inning. He thought McCormick just ran into him. McCormick texted France postgame to apologize about the play.
It is good to see McCormick apologize and hopefully that suffices for the Mariners. The Mariners enter play on Friday at 43-43 and can't afford to go settling scores by throwing at guys. McCormick is in the lineup and hitting eighth.
The Astros enter the game at 49-39 on the season. They are in second place in the American League West, while the Mariners are in fourth.
Houston currently holds the No. 2 spot in the American League wild card picture while the Mariners are 4.0 games back.

Francisco Alvarez plunking clears benches after Mets rookie asked to tone down celebrations
Story by Andrew Battifarano
This was weird:
That was ridiculous. It really shouldn’t be hard for an umpire to let everyone know if a player was safe or out, especially when it looked like it could have gone either way.
C’mon, Lance!
Francisco Alvarez brought out the power bat again Thursday — but he also was beaned.
The Mets’ rookie catcher homered for the third straight game in the Amazin’s 9-0 win when he took Diamondbacks starter Ryne Nelson deep for a two-run homer in the third inning.
But in the seventh inning, after Alvarez had added a run-scoring single in the fifth, he stepped in against reliever Jose Ruiz and took an up-and-in 97-mph fastball off the hand or elbow.
A perturbed Alvarez seemed to take exception to the plunking and stared Ruiz down.
He walked slowly down the first base line with his bat before home plate umpire Tripp Gibson intervened in front of the 21-year-old.
At that point, the Mets — including manager Buck Showalter — stormed out of the dugout and bullpen to the foul line, and they were eventually joined by players and coaches from Arizona.
As Alvarez stood on first, Tommy Pham and Showalter talked to the youngster, and things dissipated without any ejections.

Alvarez hit two mammoth homers for the Mets in the first two games in Arizona, including a two-out game-tying blast in the ninth inning Wednesday.
In the Wednesday blast, he carried his bat a good chunk of the way down the first base line, and then, as the ball cleared the wall, Alvarez turned to the Mets’ dugout and flexed his muscles.
Mets third base coach Joey Cora told the young backstop before the game to tone things down in certain situations, like in Wednesday’s case, when the game was still tied.
“[Cora] just said that emotions are good to have in a game, but let’s also keep in mind that at that point there was still a lot of game to be played since it was only a home run to tie the game,” Alvarez said through an interpreter before the Mets’ win.
“If it’s one of those things where we take the lead by two runs or three runs, it’s more appropriate to do, but at that point we had to kind of stay locked into the game.”
New York Mets’ Francisco Alvarez (4) celebrates his two-run home on Thursday night.AP
“[Cora] pulled me aside [Thursday] when we were more relaxed and he just said, ‘We have to understand the situations of the game,’” Alvarez added. “It wasn’t in a bad way. He wasn’t getting on me. He wasn’t trying to teach me a lesson. It was just to give me some good advice to say I have got to zone back into the game.”
It’s not the first time the Venezuelan native made headlines for his celebrations.
In 2021, while playing in the minors with the High-A Brooklyn Cyclones, Alvarez himself admitted he “disrespected” the Yankees’ Hudson Valley affiliate when he bat-flipped after a titanic homer.
Celebrations or not, Alvarez now has 16 homers this season, the second-most for a catcher in an age 21 season or younger, trailing only Hall of Famer Johnny Bench.

“As a human being, so many people look up to you; they rely on you. No one can imagine how hard that is,” said Burnett to Zelensky in a clip from her interview, which aired on Wednesday. “Do you do anything for yourself? Are you ever able to take a minute to read or to listen to music or something to sort of give
yourself that moment?”
Zelensky replied, “I have such moments. Important to be in silence, to be alone. Alone, how can I be alone? Alone I can be with music or with a book, and early, early in the morning when there are no sounds,” adding that “the music helps.”
Asked what music he liked to listen to, Zelensky said, “I like AC/DC and Ukrainian music. Of course, I like Ukrainian music a lot because Ukrainian, that’s native language. That’s why you understand not only music, you understand words and etcetera.”
He said that while he did not “understand all the words” of AC/DC, he liked “the energy.”
“I like Eric Clapton, loads of, loads of— Guns and Roses,” he continued before joking, “Maybe it’s too old music.”
Burnett responded, “I understand. We’re the same.”
“I love it,” Zelensky said. “It’s important to have sometimes at six, seven in the morning some trainings…”
“Workout,” said Burnett, to which Zelensky replied, “Yes, workout.”
He concluded, “To do something with music, with such music, which gives you energy for all the day.”

Shohei Ohtani Comments On His All-Star Game Status
Story by The Cold Wire
The MLB All-Star Game is next week and many pitchers need to decide if they are going to pitch in the game.
Most players that are selected look forward to playing in the game.
But depending on how the schedules line up, some pitchers are unable to pitch.
One star who will likely not pitch in the game is Shohei Ohtani.
According to Bob Nightengale, Ohtani told reporters he will likely not pitch in the ASG due to a blister on his finger.
Powerboat Does A Full Backflip At 200 MPH, Sticks The Landing, Keeps Going
U-40 Bucket List Racing Flip Replays #H1Unlimited // #GovernorsCup
Full multi-camera replay of the U-40 Bucket List Racing driver Dustin Echols' flip in the Final Heat of the 2023 @madisonregattainc Indiana Governor's Cup.
Independence Day weekend always means a lot of activity on the water, be it on lakes, rivers or in the ocean.
One of the events that took place this past weekend occurred on the Ohio River with the 2023 Madison Regatta Indiana Governor’s Cup in Madison, Indiana.
The event, held annually on 4th of July weekend since 1951, is an H1 Unlimited hydroplane boat race sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association.
The Madison Regatta was the second of four events that will be held in 2023.
During the fifth and final heat of this year’s Madison Regatta, the Bucket List Racing entry from Snohomish, Wash. did something unexpected when it did a complete backflip at around 200 MPH, and kept on going.
Despite the amazing landing, the driver of the powerboat, Dustin Echols was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation but was not seriously injured, according to a press release.
Footage of the wild flip was taken from several angles…
Following the wild ride taken by Echols, event organizers canceled the remainder of the H1 Unlimited Racing Series event.
It was the second year in a row that a powerboat race in Madison ended with a blow-over accident.
J. Michael Kelly of Bonney Lake, Wash., the driver of Beacon Electric, was named the event winner based on points he had collected in preliminary heat racing during the weekend. He was second in one of his heats on day one and was the winner of the first two preliminary heats that were held on day two.
It was Echols’ flip and then sticking the landing that most fans are going to remember, however.
“That’s incredible. Looks like Earnhardt at Daytona in 97,” another person tweeted.
“I’d like a view inside the cockpit when this guy landed and realized he was still going! That’s insanity!” someone else wrote.
“Anakin skywalker did this while pod racing as a young boy. Unmoved,” another person joked.

Shohei Ohtani Slugged His Career-Long Home Run Friday Night And Fans Were in Awe
Story by Dan Lyons
Shohei Ohtani does something absolutely remarkable on the baseball field on a seemingly daily basis, and Friday night was no different for the Angels’ two-way superstar.
In the sixth inning of Los Angeles’s 6–2 loss to the Diamondbacks, Ohtani hit a mammoth 493-foot home run, the longest of his MLB career and his 30th of the season. He is the first player to reach 30 homers on the season, and is two clear of the Braves’ Matt Olsen for the MLB lead.
According to ESPN Stats & Info, this is also the longest home run of the entire MLB season so far.

Ohtani’s exploits on a baseball diamond are always breathtaking. Once again, he had the baseball world fired up with this mammoth home run.
Ohtani was remarkable when he was merely an All-Star level pitcher and hitter. Now, he is pretty clearly the best hitter in all of baseball, and is a bona fide ace on the mound on top of it.
A look at his month, per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:
Final offensive numbers for the @Angels' Shohei Ohtani in June 2023:
25 extra-base hits
21 walks
15 home runs
He's the first player in MLB history to have at least 25 extra-base hits, 20 walks and 15 home runs in a single month.

Yankees and Orioles continue pivotal series before All-Star break
The Yankees entered the game on a two-game win streak, having won the first two legs of this series against the Orioles. This is a crucial series for both teams, as only two games separate each other in the American League East division, with the Orioles second and the Yankees third. The final game of the series
will be played Thursday with the Orioles expected to give the ball to Kyle Bradish, while the Yankees will start Luis Severino.

Taylor said he finds it "fascinating" that the Declaration of Independence "refers to ‘all men being created equal’ as a ‘self-evident’ truth."
Said Taylor, "Most societies in most times have not subscribed to that. This is only ‘self-evident’ to those who would subscribe to the biblical idea that God created human beings equally in his image."
He added, "If they were not created equally, they certainly evolved unequally. There is no basis for democracy except grounded in belief about the divine origin of man."
Taylor said, "Thus, it was a Declaration of Independence from Britain, and a bold ‘Declaration of Dependence’ upon God. Likewise, as President John Adams famously noted, ‘Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.’"

Yankees’ 84-year-old announcer drilled by foul ball to face, but didn’t miss a beat
John Sterling didn’t miss a beat after catching a foul ball to the face in the press box.
John Sterling is a legend among broadcasters in Major League Baseball. Sterling has been calling New York Yankees games since 1989, and he’s still going strong at 84 years old. One would think that Sterling has seen it all after covering the sport live for five decades, but baseball has a way of always finding
something new to give us. On Saturday night against the Boston Red Sox, Sterling became the story of the game for showing some grit and resilience in the press box.
As New York was closing out its 3-1 victory in the ninth inning, Sterling was hit in the face with a foul ball. The ball made a loud thump as he entered the press box, and Sterling could be heard yelling “ow! ow!” before saying the ball hit him. Still, Sterling shook it off and made it to the final out to call another
Yankees win.
WFAN tweeted the video of the ball hitting Sterling on Saturday night, and it’s pretty incredible to watch:
Here’s what the call sounded like to fans watching the game.
Justin Turner was the Red Sox batter who hit the foul ball. After the game, he signed it for Sterling with a special message.
“Justin Turner signed the ball that hit John! “To John, no matter where you sit at a ballgame, you’re never safe!” We put a bandaid on the ball!”
You think a baseball to the face is going to stop Sterling from finishing a game? No chance. The Yankees need all the wins they can get to keep pace in the AL East this season, and Sterling was there with his signature call — “theeeeee Yankees win!” — to punctuate the victory.

It was a stark contrast to Gilbert’s previous outing on Thursday, when he needed just 77 pitches to match a career high with eight brilliant innings. But that was Oakland, and this was the Yankees.
Kirby, Miller and Gilbert each vowed to flush these, and the Mariners staying above .500 heading into summer will hinge on it.

DAVID LEE ROTH Shares Documentary About VAN HALEN's Appearance At 1983 US FESTIVAL
VAN HALEN singer David Lee Roth has shared a 24-minute documentary, "The Road To The US Festival", about the band's appearance at the second and final US Festival, which was held over Memorial Day Weekend 1983 at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino, California. Check it out below.
Sponsored by Steve Wozniak, formerly of Apple computer, the US Festival (US is an acronym for "Unite Us In Song"),held on Memorial Day of 1983, was a massive three-day celebration of technology and culture, with a temporary stage and open-air venue paid for by Wozniak himself just for the purposes of
the festival. The event featured "Heavy Metal Day" on May 29, 1983 with the following stellar lineup: MÖTLEY CRÜE, OZZY OSBOURNE, QUIET RIOT, TRIUMPH, JUDAS PRIEST, SCORPIONS and VAN HALEN. The US Festival co-headliners, David Bowie and VAN HALEN, each earned record-setting $1.5
million paydays for their sets.
The festivals included large air-conditioned tents featuring the US Festival Technology Exposition, a dazzling display of then-cutting-edge computers, software, and electronic music devices. Also making a debut were installations of "outdoor rain," perforated PVC nozzles that sprayed water to fight the fierce hundred-
degree heat.
Despite the historical value of the performances, the festival was a failure, with two reported deaths at the 1983 festival and Wozniak and promoters losing some $24 million. Setbacks aside, the performances remain a worthy footnote in rock history.
The US Festival interest remains strong 40 years later in pop culture with mentions in "The Simpsons", "Malcom In The Middle", "Dharma & Greg" and other popular TV shows.
Guitarist Eddie Van Halen played his final concert with VAN HALEN on October 4, 2015 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. It was the last show of the band's summer 2015 tour, which marked VAN HALEN's third time hitting the road since Roth rejoined the group in 2007.
Eddie and drummer Alex Van Halen formed VAN HALEN in 1972 in Pasadena, California, with Roth on lead vocals and Michael Anthony on bass.
VAN HALEN was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2007.
Eddie died in October 2020 at St. John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California.

Legendary @Cubs fan Bill Murray in the building for London Series!
MLB world laughs at epic Derek Jeter prank
Derek Jeter got pranked on his first day on the job at FOX, and everyone is laughing about it.
The famed New York Yankees shortstop got his start at the MLB on FOX desk on Saturday in MLB’s London Series broadcast. The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals partook in the first of two games across the pond. But after the game was over, attention was sent straight to the desk.
Jeter received a ‘Happy Birthday’ message from former Core Four teammates Andy Pettitte and Jorge Posada. Then, longtime rival David Ortiz of the hated rival Boston Red Sox revealed he had a special gift for him, too.
What we got wasn’t just a gift but an all-time prank as well. Ortiz gifted Jeter a box, which the former Yankee opened. He pulled out a jersey with the No. 2 and ‘JETER’ stitched onto the back. But there was just one problem: It wasn’t the pinstripes or the classic grey.
No, it was a Red Sox jersey.
“David Ortiz just pranked Derek Jeter on his first day at FOX… …by gifting him a Red Sox Jeter jersey,” Awful Announcing tweeted.
Jeter jokingly voiced his “displeasure” sitting next to Big Papi earlier in the show, but who would have thought it would get worse!? He chucked the jersey almost right away!
The MLB world spent time laughing at the epic prank.
A YouTube star rode in the Titan sub days before it went missing. His footage shows OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush discussing control issues with the 'brains' of the sub.
Before heading out to sea for their dive, OceanGate planned to do an "engineering dive," but Rush decided to call it off because the sub was having issues with functionality and the weather conditions were bad, an OceanGate official says in the video.
Rush, debriefing the crew on why he called off the dive, said something "just didn't seem quite right" with the submersible's control system, which he called the "brains" of the sub.
"That's why I called it, but mostly because we've got to find out what this control problem is that sort of important controlling the sub," Rush says in the video. "It's up there with life support."
The problem, Rush said, is that two "control pods" on top of the sub were not "consistently communicating."
Koehler cuts the video after Rush's comments. Koehler says he wasn't sure if the control pods issue was the same issue that later caused the Titan's catastrophic implosion.
"Your guess is as good as mine," Koehler said.
"It could have been anything," Koehler continued. "Long story short, every day they did have some problems, and we tried to fix every little thing to make sure everything was perfect for our opportunity to dive to the Titanic."
Koehler added that the issues with the sub "seem weird now," but at the time they seemed like an "everyday thing."
Luckily for Koehler, his trip to the Titanic — which is more than 12,000 feet below the surface of the ocean — didn't happen. But he did still get to take a test dive to a depth of about 3,000 feet.
"I would have been in that submarine, and my fate could have been just like the five who lost their lives just recently on mission five," Koehler said.
