BREAKING: NFL Admits That Refs Made A Giant Mistake In Jets-Cowboys Game (VIDEO)

Dak Prescott of Dallas Cowboys throwing football.

The NFL has acknowledged that its officials made a mistake on a pivotal call during the Dallas Cowboys Week 2 home contest against the New York Jets on Sunday.

According to Jets reporter Brian Costello from the New York Post, the NFL informed the Jets that the refs “should not have” penalized defensive end John Franklin-Myers for “roughing the passer” on Dak Prescott.

Franklin-Myers was penalized for hitting Prescott after the Jets forced an incompletion on a 3rd-and-7 play at their own 11-yard line. As you can see in the clip below, Franklin-Myers’ contact on Prescott was simply a clean textbook hit:

In their epic battle against the Detroit Lions in Week 2, the Seattle Seahawks earned the opening possession of overtime. It didn’t take long for Tyler Lockett to make his mark on the contest and send the Seahawks home happy.

Geno Smith and the offense were able to drive the ball to the Lions’ six-yard line. Once there, with just under six minutes left in overtime, Lockett caught a touchdown pass from Smith and secured Seattle’s 37-31 victory. Head coach Pete Carroll couldn’t be happier seeing Lockett’s heroics, via Gregg Bell of the

Tacoma News Tribune.

“I hope he plays forever,” Carroll said of Lockett.

While his overtime touchdown catch stole the show, Lockett was a huge contributor for the Seahawks throughout the entire contest. He finished the game with a team-high eight receptions for 59 yards and two touchdowns. The win marked Seattle’s first of the 2023.

Pete Carroll is no stranger to watching Lockett shine. The wide receiver was drafted by Carroll and company back in 2015. He has become a focal point of the offense, earning both a Pro Bowl nod and an All-Pro nomination during his time in Seattle.

While Lockett is going on 32-years-old, Pete Carroll is hoping Tyler Lockett and his playmaking ability never leave Seattle. His performance against the Lions was just a long line of games in which the wide receiver has come up clutch for the Seahawks.

As they continue on throughout the 2023, Carroll will be looking for Lockett to continue his explosive play. If it were up to him, Lockett’s explosiveness would never cease to end.

Geno Smith tried too hard to keep a broken play alive.

Up 31-28 over the Detroit Lions, the Seattle Seahawks faced a 3rd-and-18 right before the fourth quarter's two-minute warning. Seattle ran a shotgun formation with an empty backfield, but Smith's pocket began to collapse.

He moved up and then backward to evade Detroit's pass-rushers. Rather than throwing it away or giving himself up, he stopped and kept running the wrong way across the field.

Three Lions defenders cornered Smith until Alex Anzalone sacked him at the three. Here's a look at the play that cost Seattle 17 yards of field position.

The sack had significant ramifications for the Seahawks, who gave the Lions the ball back at midfield after a punt. Detroit moved to the 20 before Riley Patterson hit a game-tying field goal to end regulation.

However, Smith made up for his miscue by throwing a game-winning touchdown to Tyler Lockett in overtime. The 32-year-old completed 32 of 41 passes for 328 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-31 victory.

Smith needed that type of outing after settling for 112 yards -- his lowest tally as a starter for Seattle -- in Week 1's 30-13 home loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Defeating Detroit also proved monumental last year, as the tiebreaker gave the Seahawks a playoff spot.

Smith will look to lead another win when Seattle hosts the Carolina Panthers in Week 3.

Deion Sanders makes Jay Norvell admission after wild 2OT win over Colorado State

The Colorado football program continued their surge in the national spotlight, barely escaping Colorado State on Saturday night in Boulder in a two overtime thriller.

Deion Sanders spoke candidly after the game about the contentious chatter during the week with his opposing coach. Rams coach Jay Norvell had previously made comments about Deion wearing sunglasses and hats everywhere, which Sanders turned into a show and gave all of his players glasses.

“I’m happy for the brother. I really am,” Sanders said, per Kyle Bonagura of ESPN. “I’m happy that they fought, that they played a good game. I’m happy he’s the head coach. I’m happy for any brother that’s doing it and is successful man. I truly am. I don’t know where all this stuff comes from. I had to respond because — my mama taught me that.”

Norvell clarified ahead of the game that there was no bad blood, and that his comments were taken out of context earlier in the week. That didn’t stop Sanders from taking it ‘personal’ as the Buffs protected their home turf in the heated rivalry, and he knew he couldn’t let Norvell come in and beat him.

“Truthfully, there’s one point in the game. I said we can’t let this dude win,” Sanders said. “There ain’t no way we let this dude win. This press conference is going to be unbearable if we let this dude win.”

There were several such moments, but the Buffaloes showed resiliency and bounced back when it seemed insurmountable. A 98-yard drive with just two minutes on the clock took the team into overtime, where they outlasted the Colorado State attack in the second period.

Colorado will carry the comeback energy into Eugene next weekend to face a top-15 Oregon Ducks squad. The Buffaloes defense will have their work cut out for them against an Oregon attack that is averaging an absurd 58 points so far this season. They open as an early 17-point underdog, but bets will likely be flying on the best show in college football as they have in the first three games.

Pete Carroll’s net worth in 2023

Pete Carroll net worth, Pete Carroll, Pete Carroll net worth 2023

Pete Carroll net worth, Pete Carroll, Pete Carroll net worth 2023

Pete Carroll was born on Sept. 15, 1951, in San Francisco. Despite being an athlete during his childhood, Pete lacked physical growth as a teenager which frustrated him as he had to present a special doctor’s clearance to try out for football. Eventually, he became a multisport star as he played football, basketball,

and baseball. He even won the school’s Athlete of the Year award in 1969.

Pete Carroll’s first coaching job

When Carroll’s former head coach at the University of the Pacific learned that he was interested in coaching, he offered him a job as a graduate assistant. Pete agreed and enrolled as a graduate student where he earned a secondary teaching credential and a Master’s degree in physical education in 1976.

He served as an assistant for three years at Pacific where he worked on wide receivers and secondary defenders. In 1995, Pete Carroll was inducted into the Pacific Athletic Hall of Fame.

After graduating from Pacific, the University of Arkansas hired Carroll as a graduate assistant working with the secondary, and he made $182 a month.

The following year, Carroll transferred to Iowa State where he was also an assistant working on the secondary under Earle Bruce. When Bruce moved to Ohio State University, he brought Carroll with him.

In 1980, North Carolina State hired Pete Carroll as defensive coordinator. In 1983, he returned to the University of the Pacific where he became an assistant coach and defensive coordinator.

Pete Carroll’s first NFL coaching job

After a year, Carroll left Pacific and ventured into the NFL as he joined the Buffalo Bills to become their defensive backs coach. The following season, he moved to the Minnesota Vikings where he held the same position for five years from 1985 to 1989.

Due to his successful performance with the Vikings, the New York Jets hired him to become their defensive coordinator under Bruce Coslet from 1990 to 1993. In 1994, the Jets promoted him to head coach. Unfortunately, he was fired after one season as the Jets finished with a 6-10 record.

Pete Carroll becomes head coach of the Patriots

He was then hired by the San Francisco 49ers as their defensive coordinator for two seasons. His successful stint with the 49ers led him to be hired as the new head coach of the New England Patriots in 1997 where he replaced Bill Parcells.

After a successful 1997 season where the Patriots won the AFC East division, it went downhill for the next two seasons as they lost the Wild Card playoff round in 1998 and completely missed the playoffs in 1999. Due to that, the Patriots fired Carroll after the 1999 season.

Pete Carroll’s net worth in 2023 is $40 million. Carroll is the current head coach and executive vice president of the Seattle Seahawks. He is one of the most decorated coaches in football history as he also led USC to multiple championships. He is also one of three football coaches to have won a college football

national championship and a Super Bowl. In this article, we will talk about Pete Carroll’s net worth in 2023.

Pete Carroll’s net worth in 2023 is an estimated $40 million. This is according to multiple sources such as Celebrity Net Worth.

Despite receiving many offers from NFL teams to become a defensive coordinator, Pete Carroll instead spent his time as a consultant for pro and collegiate teams, doing charitable works for the NFL, and writing a pro football column for CCNSI.com.

Pete Carroll becomes head coach at USC

On Dec. 15, 2000, Pete Carroll signed a five-year contract to become the head coach of the USC football team. However, he was not the first choice as the USC Athletic Department under Director Mike Garrett was looking for a high-profile coach with recent college experience.

The hiring of Pete Carroll as USC’s new head coach was criticized by the media and many USC fans and alumni — many of which were asking for the removal of Carroll before they started donating again — due to his NFL coaching record and being nearly two decades removed from the college football game.

Despite a slow start in the 2001 season where they posted an early 2-5 record, Carroll and the Trojans eventually picked up the pace and posted a record of 67-7 over the next 74 games. This includes record-breaking win streaks and multiple championships.

Pete Carroll’s USC Trojans Accomplishments:

  • 2x BCS Championship Game Appearance (2005 win over Oklahoma and 2006 loss to Texas)
  • Back-to-Back The Associated Press National Championship (2003-2004)
  • 6x BCS Bowl Victories
  • Seven straight BCS Bowl Appearances
  • National Record – 33 Consecutive Weeks as the AP’s No. 1 Ranked Team
  • NCAA Record – 63 straight 20-point games
  • 25 First-team All-Americans
  • 53 players selected in the NFL Draft – 14 in the 1st round
  • Three Heisman Trophy Winners – Carson Palmer (2002), Matt Leinart (2004), Reggie Bush (2005, vacated)
  • 2003-2004 season – 34-game win streak

Unfortunately, the NCAA announced sanctions in 2010 against USC, including a two-year bowl ban, elimination of thirty scholarships, forfeiture of some victories during the 2003-2004 season, and all wins in the undefeated 2005-2006 regular season.

This is due to the recruitment of former USC Trojan Reggie Bush where it was found that the player accepted improper gifts.

Pete Carroll becomes head coach of the Seahawks

After his stint with the USC Trojans, Pete Carroll signed a five-year $33 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks to become their new head coach. On top of that, he was also named as the executive vice president of football operations, effectively making him the general manager.

In his first two seasons with the Seahawks, the team finished with an identical 7-9 record for both years. In his third year, Carroll, along with rookie quarterback Russell Wilson, led the Seahawks to an 11-5 record —  his first winning season with Seattle — and an undefeated record at home.

The Seahawks finished the 2013 season with a 13-3 record. In the playoffs, Seattle cruised past the New Orleans Saints and the San Francisco 49ers to book a ticket to the Super Bowl.

On Feb. 2, 2014, the Seattle Seahawks faced the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII. They dominated the game with a score of 43-8 as Pete Carroll led the Seahawks to their first-ever Super Bowl win in franchise history.

Pete Carroll joins Barry Switzer and Jimmy Johnson as the only coaches to both win an NCAA Championship and a Super Bowl.

The following season, the Seattle Seahawks were the NFC Champions once again as they booked another trip to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, they lost against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX with a score of 28-24.

From the 2015 season through the 2022 season, Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks have a total record of 68 wins and 51 losses. They held a winning record for almost all of those seasons except the 2021 season. Pete Carroll signed a four-year contract extension with the Seahawks on Nov. 8, 2020, making him

the second-highest-paid coach in the NFL with an $11 million salary. Obviously, all of this helps to contribute to Pete Carroll’s net worth in 2023.

Pete Carroll’s Career Coaching Achievements:

  • Super Bowl XLVIII Champion
  • 2x National Champion (2003, 2004)
  • 4x Rose Bowl Champion (2003, 2006-2008)
  • Orange Bowl Champion (2002)
  • 7x Pac-10 Champion (2002-2008)
  • Member of the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team
  • 2003 Home Depot Coach of the Year Award Winner
  • 2003 AFCA Coach of the Year Award Winner

Nevertheless, did Pete Carroll’s net worth in 2023 surprise you?

Madden 24 – Seahawks Players Give Hilarious Reactions To Player Ratings

08/09/23

Story by Massimo Marchiano

The Madden 24 player ratings were unveiled back in June, but it seems some Seattle Seahawks players don’t quite yet know their overalls. For the ones that do, they certainly have their own opinions on no players receiving a 90+ rating. In fact, the highest rated player on the Seahawks is a tie between MLB Bobby

Wagner and WR Tyler Lockett.

For reference, the Seahawks went into the 2022 season looking like a team in a rebuilding phase. However they proved haters wrong last season, mounting up a 9-8 record and making it to the playoffs. While they lost the 49ers in the Wild Card Round, the season was considered a success. With the resurgence of

veteran QB Geno Smith, coupled with the young talent they have in Tariq Woolen and DK Metcalf, people are excited to see how high the Hawks can soar in 2023.

The Seahawks posted a video on their twitter account asking players on the team who got a 90 overall rating. This lead to multiple hilarious reactions, as well as who they believed deserve a 90+ overall.

You can check out the video below:

Seahawks Players React To Madden 24 Ratings

The 60-second video is available on the Seattle Seahawks Twitter page.

The video starts with DT Myles Adams right off the bat saying “D Lock (Drew Lock), Bobby (Wagner), Diggs (Quandre Diggs)”. He was told right away that none of those three made the cut. Quandre Diggs has been a pro bowler 3 years in a row but remains an 87 overall, interestingly.

First round pick Jaxon Smith-Njigba couldn’t help but wonder if the question was even real. He starts his Madden career with a 78 OVR.

Drew Lock hilariously walks past the camera, only saying “It better be Geno Smith.” Geno Smith enters Madden 24 with an 81 overall, putting him in the top 20 QBs list. Strong Safety Julian love didn’t waste any time, shouting “Not a damn soul, and that’s a travesty.” Love is an 80 overall.

fifth-round rookie Mike Morris was about to guess before his teammate shouted his name. He couldn’t help but smile, though he still has work to do to prove he’s a 90 overall, much less a starting NFL player.

UDFA Joey Blount noted that the team had a couple of 87s and 89s, but still noted how the developers did them dirty.  WR John Hall adamantly supported Smith, saying he “Needs to be about a 97.”

Rising Star Tariq (now, Riq) Woolen, had no choice but to make his case for a high overall: “Madden, if you’re looking at this, Imma a vouch for me right now because I can only talk about myself. I feel like I should be a 93 on the game. Woolen holds an 83 overall, currently.

There are plenty of more great reactions in the video, but we’ll let you check it out for yourself. We’ll see if the Seahawks use this as motivation to prove even more haters wrong in 2023.

Madden 24 Release Date

Madden 24 launches on August 18th for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via EA App, Steam, and Epic Games Store. You can play the game on August 15th if you pre-order the Deluxe Edition.

The developers plan to release a Superstar Deep Dive tomorrow, focusing on the return of the mode, and everything new. In the meanwhile, you can check out their recent deep dive on Ultimate Team.

Pete Carroll drops Devon Witherspoon injury update, but there’s a catch

 8/9/2023

Story by Eva Geitheim

Seattle Seahawks fans held their breath when rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon sustained an injury during training camp practice Monday. The good news for Seattle is the injury isn’t serious.

However, Witherspoon will miss more some time due to the hamstring injury he sustained, which has kept him out of practice since Monday. “Pete says Spoon’s hamstring isn’t serious, but he doesn’t know when Spoon will be back,” per Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic.

The injury will certainly keep Witherspoon out of the Seahawks first preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings Thursday. He missed time in training camp earlier while holding out for his rookie contract. The team will hope he can return in time for the start of the regular season next month.

Devon Witherspoon previously injured his hamstring prior to the NFL draft, but that injury was in a different spot. There is no indication that the two are correlated.

Seattle selected Witherspoon fifth overall out of Illinois, making him the first cornerback off the board in 2023. At Illinois, he was a consensus All-American in 2022 and the winner of the Tatum-Woodson Defensive Back of the Year award. Despite being slightly undersized at just 180 lbs., Witherspoon was a highly regarded prospect coming into the draft.

Witherspoon, who Carroll has compared to Steelers Hall of Fame safety Troy Polamalu, will join Tariq Woolen in the secondary to potentially form one of the best young cornerback duos in the league. Woolen comes off a Pro Bowl rookie season where he led the league in interceptions and finished top-3 in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.

If Witherspoon and Woolen succeed as a duo, Seattle will have their best secondary since the Legion of Boom days.

Bobby Wagner explains what the issues were and how Seahawks plan to change the run defense

 BY GREGG BELL/THE NEWS TRIBUNE

Bobby Wagner, Uchenna Nwosu, Dre’Mont Jones, Jarran Reed — heck, seemingly every Seahawks defensive player back to Joe Nash — are talking about it. The buzzwords of this training camp, this season, are: Stop the run. Or, at least slow it down. Slow it better than Seattle did last season. As you may have

noticed and heard, the Seahawks were 30th in the NFL in rushing defense in 2022. They spent much of last season on pace to allow 170 yards on the ground per game. That would have been the most in team history. The Seahawks finished surrendering over 150, thanks to a late-season blip that wasn’t exactly

something to be proud of. Now? “We are making more of an emphasis on the run game,” Nwsou, the team’s sack leader last season, said, “and everybody is buying into the culture and the scheme.”

Asked what’s different now than during last fall into winter, when Seattle spent most of last season allowing the most rushing yards in team history, Nwosu said: “An emphasis on everybody buying in.” So far, so good. Yet so inconclusive, obviously. One week into camp following Wednesday’s players off day, the

defensive front has been stressing the importance of their biggest problem from 2022: “run fits.” That is, the assigned defender being in his assigned gap at the assigned time. Too often last season, linemen got blocked out of their gap. Or, worse, they went to the wrong one. Opposing blockers were free through the

rush lane to get onto the “second level” to block the Seahawks who are paid to make tackles for short running gains, the linebackers. They were often in wrong places, too. Wagner missed coach Pete Carroll’s transition last year from his half-century-old 4-3 scheme to the 3-4 Seattle played for the first time under

Carroll in 2022. The Seahawks cut Wagner in the spring of 2022 to save $16 million in salary-cap space. He watched while playing for the rival Los Angeles Rams, and noticed studying game film of his new-old Seahawks defense he signed back onto this spring, what Seattle’s problems were with run fits. So many

Seahawks coaches and defensive players talked about “fits” last season they started sounding like shoe salesmen at Nordstrom. But what does “run fits” actually mean? Fans react as Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs (28) runs 86 yards into the end zone for the game-winning touchdown in overtime of an

NFL game on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022, at Lumen Field in Seattle. Las Vegas beat Seattle, 40-34. Pete Caster Pete Caster / The News Tribune DEFINING SEATTLE’S RUN-FIT PROBLEM Wagner explained it this week. He said the biggest issue for the run defense last year was opposing offenses confused the Seahawks’

front seven before the snap. That caused the defense to go to the wrong places. Offensive linemen had no one to block at the point of attack. Running backs had yards of space before another, unassigned Seahawk — often a defensive back who was aligned 8-10 yards off the ball at the snap — showed up. That,

specifically, is what Hurtt, Wagner, Carroll and the defense are stressing the most this summer: Adjusting to pre-snap motion; adjusting each defender’s run-gap responsibilities accordingly, on the fly. “Let’s say you have an A or B gap (a defender being assigned the offensive guard-center or guard-tackle gap). They

are not just going to line up and come right at you,” Wagner said of offenses. “They’re going to move a guy. They’re going to motion a guy (before the snap). And all of those motions change a gap. “So, you have to know what your gap is after that, and just having an understanding.”

Free agent running backs to target amid Seahawks’ Kenneth Walker III, Zach Charbonnet injuries

08/01/2023

Story by Jack Deignan

The Seattle Seahawks are preparing for the 2023 NFL season with high expectations after exceeding their expectations in 2022. In the first year behind Geno Smith, many believed that the Seahawks would really struggle. In reality, Smith thrived on his way to becoming the AP Comeback Player of the Year. He led

the Seahawks to a playoff appearance and in turn netted a massive contract this NFL offseason. Going into 2023, Smith and the Seahawks are now expected to be competitors in a tough NFC West, and they definitely have the talent on offense to put up a lot of points. Returning for Seattle is Smith, Kenneth Walker

III, DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Noah Fant. Along with these guys are rookies Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Zach Charbonnet; overall, the Seahawks are loaded with talent for Geno Smith to use at his disposal. Despite the excitement, Seahawks training camp has already caused some setbacks, as injuries to both Walker

III and Charbonnet now have the Seattle RB room in flux. This is why there are three free agent running backs in particular that the Seahawks need to target during training camp. Before the 2023 NFL regular season begins, the Seahawks need to target Ezekiel Elliott, Leonard Fournette, and Kareem Hunt.

Both the injuries to Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet don’t figure to be serious as of now, but it is not a good sign to start training camp. If the Seahawks start the regular season without their running back room ready, it would be prudent of them to get in contact with one of the remaining free agent running

backs. Elliott, Fournette and Hunt are all proven veteran running backs who could fit in pretty seamlessly into the Seahawks system. Not to mention, Elliott and Fournette are 28-years-old while Hunt is 27-years-old, so they still have plenty of good football left to give the game. While the Seahawks allow Walker III and Charbonnet to nurse their injuries, they need to reach out to free agent running backs Ezekiel Elliott, Leonard Fournette and Kareem Hunt.

*Free Agents via Spotrac

Ezekiel Elliott

Ezekiel Elliott clearly lost a step last season as he ceded carries to Tony Pollard on the Dallas Cowboys. This culminated with the Cowboys releasing him this summer, and he has had a pretty quiet free agency thus far. Nevertheless, the injuries to the Seahawks running back room has definitely freed up an opportunity for him in

Seattle. Despite his less productive year last season, Elliott still has the potential to be a bruiser and earn the tough yards. This would be big for a Seattle team that expects to be very explosive in both the passing and running games; adding a back like Elliott would help them maintain a balance within their offensive system so

that they don’t get too greedy trying to go for the big play. Elliott would also be a great back to mentor both Walker and Charbonnet, as he was once considered the best running back in the league. He would easily be able to give Walker and Charbonnet some tips and tricks that could propel them to elite status.

Leonard Fournette

The main reason that the Seahawks should target Leonard Fournette is his playoff success. Like Elliott, Fournette has been one of the best at running between the tackles and could help the Seahawks maintain a balanced offense. Nevertheless, he would be more important for his veteran leadership that could be a

huge asset for a team that has playoff aspirations. Fournette is a Super Bowl winner and has played the best football of his career in the postseason, so he would definitely help in getting the Seahawks focused for the postseason and ready to play if they were to find themselves in elimination football. While the

Seahawks continue to monitor what is best for Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet, Leonard Fournette should definitely be a free agent target for them.

Kareem Hunt

Kareem Hunt is a great target for the Seahawks specifically because of his style of play. Hunt plays very similarly to both Walker III and Charbonnet; big running backs who excel in both the passing and rushing game and are much faster than expected. Not to mention, Hunt has been elite when given the

opportunity to be a primary back, and there is no saying that he wouldn’t be if the Seahawks signed him. The 27-year-old back had very strong flashes with the Cleveland Browns but was never unleashed due to the presence of Nick Chubb on the roster. If Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet end up missing

regular season games, Kareem Hunt could come in and help the Seahawks not even skip a beat. Out of all the free agent running backs available, Kareem Hunt is definitely a strong target for the Seahawks.

Lockett Praises Seahawks WRs, Reveals Next Step

Story by Adam Schultz

The Seattle Seahawks will enter the season with one of the most potent offenses in the NFC. After veterans D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett both surpassed 1,000 receiving yards last season, Ohio State Buckeye Jaxon Smith-Njigba was added via the draft.

Running back Zach Charbonnet was added to ease the load on Kenneth Walker but a shoulder injury has halted his first training camp.

With a true three-headed monster now on offense along with the rookies in Tyjon Lindsey and Matt Landers and the likes of Dareke Young and Easop Winston Jr. to complement them, Seattle boasts a solid pass-catching unit.

And Lockett thinks so too.

“We got a really good core,” Lockett said. “As camp goes on, I think a lot of guys will start to separate themselves. I think just with everything we are trying to build, we got guys that are able to run after the catch, we got guys that can create."

With a big emphasis on learning offensive coordinator Shane Waldron's offense for the rookies and Metcalf and Lockett as ones to lean on, the Seahawks have a good mix of youth and experience in the room.

Training camp will ultimately decide who makes the 53-man roster. And as with every season, there will be some hard-luck stories.

But as the Seahawks receivers get settled into the swing of training camp, Lockett has liked what he has seen thus far and states that now, it's all about learning the offense.

"I really like what we have, I’m going into year nine so I’ve seen a lot of receivers come and go," Lockett said. "I really like the talent, the athletic ability. Now it's just about us being able to learn the IQ of the offense and to be able to take our game [up a] notch in practice.”

Seattle had the ninth-ranked offense for points scored per game last season (23.9). Now with the addition of Smith-Njigba and the natural progression of the roster, the Seahawks might not just have a chance to win their division this season, but potentially much more.

1 surprising Seahawks player who could make or break 2023 NFL season

07/31/2023

Story by Jack Deignan

The Seattle Seahawks have a very exciting 2023 NFL season lying ahead after a surprise year last year. All of the surprise from last year’s playoff appearance was in thanks to Geno Smith and his AP Comeback Player of the Year season. Smith turned last season into a massive contract extension this NFL offseason,

and now he heads into this year with Seahawks fans expecting really strong quarterback play from him. Smith undoubtedly expects the same, and he has the talent on his offense that could lead him to another Pro Bowl caliber year. Kenneth Walker broke out as a rookie running back last season, and rookie running

back Zach Charbonnet figures to form a formidable duo with Walker out of the backfield for Seattle. On the outside, the Seahawks will once again be trotting out star wide receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, while they are also expecting big things from tight end Noah Fant this season. Still, none of these guys

will prove to be the make or break player for the Seahawks this year. In reality, the make or break player for Seattle for the 2023 NFL season will be rookie wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

The Seahawks drafted Jaxon Smith-Njigba with the No. 20 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft out of the Ohio State University. Smith-Njigba dominated for the Buckeyes two seasons ago, but he missed all of last year with an injury that caused his draft stock to dip. Nevertheless, he was still taken by the Seahawks

with the 20th pick, and he now figures to be the X-factor on the offense this season. Seattle’s offense will look pretty much the exact same besides the addition of Smith-Njigba and Charbonnet, and although the growth will be there for everyone, defenses will have a much better idea of how to guard the guys that

have been there. This is the primary reason that when the 2023 NFL season starts, Jaxon Smith-Njigba will be the make or break player for the Seahawks potential success.

*Depth Chart via ESPN

Jaxon Smith-Njigba

This year will again be defined by the success of Geno Smith at quarterback for the Seahawks. Given how good he looked last year, the contract he was given this offseason, and the poise and leadership it is said he brings to the locker room in Seattle, Seahawks fans can expect consistency from Smith in 2023.

Turning to the rest of the offense, Kenneth Walker, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett have proven that they can be consistent guys for the Seahawks. Walker is currently nursing a groin injury that his him week-to-week, but there is no concern that he will miss serious regular season time. With Walker in the backfield,

Seattle will be able to expect a good rushing output as well. This puts a lot of responsibility on the Seattle wideouts to play good football in 2023.

DK Metcalf has shown flashes of elite wide receiver play in his four career seasons so far. He surpassed 1,000 yards last year and had the most receptions of his career at 90, although his touchdown production dipped a little. Still, Metcalf has shown he can be a consistent target for Smith, much like Tyler Lockett. For

both Russell Wilson and Smith, Lockett has become the safety net that every good quarterback needs. Lockett has made a career out of being one of the more durable receivers in the NFL, and he is just as much of a deep threat as he is a consistent option in the short game as well. Still, Lockett and Metcalf don’t

project to bring a new dynamic to the Seahawks offense that they haven’t already had, and Kenneth Walker will have to face defenses this year that are ready for what he can bring to the table. This is why Jaxon Smith-Njigba is the make or break player for the Seahawks.

Smith-Nijgba comes to Seattle with some of the most explosive college tape from a wideout over the last few seasons, including a few outings that saw him post simply video game numbers. The speed and quickness he brings is similar to Lockett, but he is a much more explosive athlete that can run a greater route

tree. Not to mention, he has the potential to open up the field for every single one of the Seahawks skill players; if he dominates, all of the sudden the Seahawks pretty sound offense from last year has another elite option that makes everyone’s life easier. There is plenty of talent across the Seattle offense, but they

could turn into a truly dominant unit if Jaxon Smith-Njigba lives up to expectations in his rookie season.

Rob Gronkowski ships Chiefs’ Travis Kelce-Taylor Swift relationship after hilarious bracelet incident

7/28/23

Story by Trevor Booth

After defending Super Bowl champion Travis Kelce professed his interest in Taylor Swift, Rob Gronkowski has shipped the Kansas City Chiefs’ star tight end and the pop singer, who are each 33 years old.

Via the “Up & Adams Show”:

“Travis is a very thoughtful guy and if they started dating, that would be hands down the No. 1 Ken and Barbie in the NFL,” Gronkowski said. “…Come on Taylor, let’s make it happen.”

Kelce said on his “New Heights” podcast with his brother, Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, he tried to give Swift a friendship bracelet with his phone number at a concert. Unfortunately for him, he said Swift does not greet people before or after her concert to preserve her voice.

Travis Kelce and longtime girlfriend Kayla Nicole broke up in May 2022. Swift and her boyfriend for six years, Joe Alwyn, split in April, making a relationship possible.

Travis has the backing of Gronkowski, who was the best tight end in the NFL before Kelce’s ascent with the Chiefs. Now, it’s up to Swift to make the relationship work.

Travis has a lot going for him right now. He and the Chiefs won their second Super Bowl in four years. In 2022, he was named first-team All-Pro for the fourth time of his career and caught a career-best 110 passes for 1,138 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, which tied the most in his career. Kelce had 27 catches

for 257 yards in the playoffs, including four touchdowns, which tied a postseason career-high.

Kelce and the Chiefs are expected to be Super Bowl favorites in 2023. Can he take home another crown and begin dating Swift?

Quandre Diggs breaks news of his own contract restructure with Seahawks

7/25/23

Story by Sam DiGiovanni

The Seattle Seahawks have a lot of contracts to juggle as they accumulate new, young stars to carry the team forward. Quandre Diggs is one of those stars and, in a move that benefits the team, he agreed to alter his contract for the 2023 season.

After the Seahawks agreed to a contract extension with edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu, Diggs took to Twitter to share the news of his contract restructure.

“Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs @qdiggs6 has restructured his contract. Converts 23’ salary into bonus! News reported by the man himself!” tweeted the star safety, whose cap hit amounts to $33 million over the next two seasons. The move could open up as much as $6 million in cap space. It’s a bit late in the

offseason for that space to really mean something, but it’s certainly helpful for a Seahawks team that will soon have a lot of guys to sign and extend.

Diggs has been a key fixture of a resurgent Seahawks defense. A Pro Bowler each of the last three seasons, he has tallied 229 combined tackles, 24 passes defended, 14 interceptions, and a forced fumble over that time. After being traded for just a fifth-round draft pick by the Detroit Lions (along with a seventh-

rounder), Diggs has become one of the best safeties in football.

Along with veteran safeties Jamal Adams and Julian Love and young cornerbacks Tariq Woolen, Devon Weatherspoon, Michael Jackson and Coby Bryant, Diggs is one of the stars that could help turn Seahawks defense into the next Legion of Boom.

'Polamalu Plan!' Will Seahawks Reveal Way to Free Jamal Adams?

'Polamalu Plan!' Will Seahawks Reveal Way to Free Jamal Adams?

Story by Harrison Reno

Since signing with the Seattle Seahawks, injuries have held former All-Pro safety Jamal Adams back. The former New York Jets star, who was traded to Seattle before the 2020 season, has played in just 25 games since arriving due to a barrage of injuries.

The latest of the long list of injuries is a torn quad which Adams suffered in the Seahawks' season opener last fall. As the old coach-speak goes, "availability is the best ability," and for the 27-year-old, he hasn't had that in Seattle.

Yet, despite that recent injury record, NFL Network analyst Bucky Brooks revealed his confidence that the Seahawks can get the best out of Adams this season. In a recent interview with Seattle Sports' Brock and Salk, Brooks believes if Adams can stay healthy, he will be put in a spot for success.

“I think they’ve already started taking steps to make that happen, right?” Brooks said. “Quandre Diggs played at a high level last year, and he’s played at a high level since he’s come over to Seattle. And now you bring Julian Love over, you have two safeties that can play in the deep part of the field, so you can drop

Jamal Adams in the box and really use him almost like a nickel-safety-linebacker.”

In the opinion of Brooks and many others, Adams' best role is playing in and around the box. As Pro Football Focus cited in their safety rankings, Adams was considered the best "box safety" in the NFL.

The Seahawks have seen flashes of what Adams will look like in the role described by Brooks. In his first season (2020) in Seattle, Adams recorded a career-high 9.5 sacks to go along with 11 tackles for a loss and 14 quarterback hits.

Although talking about Adams having a big season is one thing, a comparison to a Hall of Fame player is another. Brooks didn't stop at predicting how Adams could thrive in the Seahawks' defense. Brooks even went as far as to compare Adams to Troy Polamalu.

“If you go back to what Pete Carroll had at USC when he had Troy Polamalu, he used him near the line of scrimmage and let him rush off the edge and do those things," Brooks said. "Jamal Adams is at his best when he’s played in a role like that. This year, he will have an opportunity to play in a role like that, and I

think you will see him play at a high level. ..."

The image of Adams painted by Brooks is very different from what others in the media have done this offseason, as they've gone as far as to list him as a trade candidate due to his expensive contract and the signing of Julian Love. Yet, as Brooks revealed in his analysis of Adams' role this season, the addition of

Love can all part of the master plan to unlock the a healthy Jamal Adams' full potential.

Viral Video Surfaces Of Bills Star Josh Allen Fighting 6’6, 341 Pound DT Jordan Phillips During Training Camp Practice (VIDEO)

Story by Darrelle Lincoln

We are at that time of the year when tempers will be flaring between teammates as they head into training camps where the heat will not feel good and everybody will be on edge.

Today we are looking back at a time Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen got into a heated scuffle with a 341-pound player.

The Buffalo Bills had their first fight of 2022 training camp right as the practice was winding down and the first-teamers were conducting team drills. The play called was a designed run for the QB up the middle.

Allen collided with defensive tackle Jordan Phillips who put a bit of shoulder contact on Allen and the quarterback did not like it. Allen immediately turned around and gave a bit of a shove back.

All hell soon broke loose. Everyone else on the field then got involved and tempers flared.

The team does not allow the media to record team drills at practice, but fans watching the session certainly did so.

Defensive tackle Jordan Phillips re-signed with the team via a one-year, $3 million deal this offseason. Phillips had his breakout year with the Bills in 2019. He mustered together 9.5 sacks in 16 games that season.

In 2022, Phillips appeared in Buffalo’s defensive line rotation for 12 games. When Phillips was on the field, he managed 20 tackles, including three for loss, with 1.5 sacks.

He is clearly a big part of the team, so the scuffle did not hurt his standing with the team.

MLB Fans Ripped Ump for Being Way Too Sensitive After Very Quick Ejection

Story by Andy Nesbitt

A’s first baseman Ryan Noda suffered an immediate ejection from Monday night’s game against the Red Sox after he appeared to draw a little line in the sand after striking out, which the umpire didn’t like at all.

This was the second line-drawing ejection we’ve seen this month, but this one by Noda was pretty subtle. He wasn’t happy about a pitch earlier in the at-bat being called a strike so after swinging and missing on strike three, he drew a line in the dirt with his bat while walking back to the dugout.

Home plate umpire Emil Jimenez didn’t like that at all and quickly threw him out of the game:

I get why Jimenez might be a little upset set there, but he did seem to be way too sensitive about the whole thing.

Angels star Shohei Ohtani is on verge of demolishing Yankees legend Babe Ruth’s MLB record

7/19/23

Story by Jedd Pagaduan

The Los Angeles Angels are coming dangerously close to falling out of the playoff picture a few weeks before the trade deadline. But after a series sweep of the New York Yankees, Shohei Ohtani and the Angels are hanging on by the skin of their teeth, inching above .500 to at least remain within striking distance.

Ohtani, in particular, has been on a tear as of late. In fact, in addition to being a top-shelf talent for the Angels on the mound, the 29-year old has been on a hot streak at the plate. To put things in greater perspective, Ohtani has matched Aaron Judge’s 2022 pace thus far — and Judge hit a ton of historic milestones along the way.

But on Wednesday night, Shohei Ohtani made history once more, putting him on the brink of surpassing Babe Ruth in this one particular statistic. According to OptaSTATS, the Angels star has now scored at least one run in eight straight games for the third separate time this season, putting him one shy of Ruth’s all-

time record. The Yankees legend is the only player with more such streaks (four) than Ohtani in the modern era, which is no mean feat.

This is simply a testament to how unique of a player Ohtani is that despite suffering a bit of a drop-off in the pitching department, he remains one of the most impactful players in the league thanks to his elite production at the dish. In 243 less plate appearances than last season, Ohtani has already hit more home

runs, and he’s on track to demolishing his season best in WAR (per Fangraphs) at the plate.

And Shohei Ohtani’s hot-hitting could not have come at a better time for the Angels, especially when they may have a huge decision to make in the coming weeks. Ohtani was already one of the most valuable trade assets in the MLB, but this incredible binge of run production only served to make him more

expensive on the market.

Whatever the case ends up being for the Angels, expect Ohtani to continue making history — perhaps even allowing him to surpass Babe Ruth’s all-time runs scored streak record.

Story by Kyle Koster

As speculation about Skip Bayless' next partner on Undisputed grows, the New York Post's Andrew Marchand threw a new name and wrinkle into the mix yesterday by reporting Richard Sherman is a candidate to slide into Shannon Sharpe's empty chair. That would certainly be a juicy acquisiton and not one that

would demur to Bayless at all, which many believe the new person would be forced to do. We know this because Sherman and Skip have a bit of a history and once met for one of the tenser moments in First Take history.

Back in March 2013 the then-Seattle Seahawks cornerback stepped into the belly of the beast and sat down next to Bayless and Stephen A. Smith. He had a lot on his mind but the main objective seemed quite clear. To destroy the person who had been criticizing him. Here's a look back at the spicy encounter.

Richard Sherman VS Skip Bayless (UNEDITED)

Sherman told Bayless that the pundit had never accomplished anything and that he was better than him. Smith found himself in the rare position of being caught on his backfoot and tried his very best to broker some sort of peace accord, but those talks never got too far down the line. My blogger brain has been

fried by too much content in the decades since yet I clearly recall how big of a deal this was at the time and how it dominated a much smaller sports-media space.

Everyone was talking about it, including Bill Simmons who was still very much part of the ESPN family at the time. The Sports Guy sent out a few tweets categorizing the exchange as "awful and embarassing" while correctly pointing out that no one won. This earned him a Twitter timeout from management,

which wouldn't be the last time he clashed heads with the suits in Bristol.

Ironically enough, Smith was a guest on Bill Simmons' podcast a few days ago and they discussed the incident.

"They were like, you can't tweet about another ESPN show, you moron," Simmons said. "I was like, you're right, I shouldn't have said anything."

Sherman getting floated out there is really interesting because of the shared past. One could see how that is a feature and not a bug. It's not difficult to imagine the two having a tense but compelling chemistry. If they were to occassionally blow up, well, that's good for ratings. All in all it seems like a somewhat

inspired, if risky idea. As agents of chaos we don't feel bad about wanting to see it happen.

Why Mariners Will Win The AL West

The Mariners have not played well for most of the season. However, they are 7-2 in July so far. The offense has struggled, ranking in the bottom 10 in batting average, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage. Regardless, the Mariners have kept themselves alive with good pitching. Luis Castillo is 6-6 with a

2.85 ERA while George Kirby is 8-7 with a 3.09 ERA. Likewise, Logan Gilbert is 7-5 with a 3.66 ERA. The Mariners can get hot and steal the division if their starting pitching continues to soar, and their hitting improves.

The Mariners play the majority of their games on ROOT Sports Northwest, which is owned by the team and AT&T SportsNet. Fubo carries ROOT, which makes the streaming service one of the best options to watch Mariners games in the 2023 season.

Nets player ejected one minute into Summer League game, fans go ballistic

07/11/23

Story by Nick Meyer

The Brooklyn Nets are currently competing in NBA Summer League action. The team took on the Milwaukee Bucks at the Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas in hopes of making a leap in the standings.

The 2023 offseason is a big one for the Nets and their fans. The team lost Kevin Durant last year but re-signed budding star Cam Johnson. The team took a calculated risk in the 2023 NBA Draft in selecting Dariq Whitehead despite foot surgeries.

On Tuesday, the Nets and Bucks went at it with the Nets coming away with a 92-71 victory. David Duke, Jr. led the way for Brooklyn with 24 points in the winning effort. Five Nets scored in double figures on the afternoon, adding to the good feeling for the team’s Summer League roster.

It wasn’t all sunshine and roses for the Nets in Vegas, however. Nick Perkins, a 6-foot-8, 250 pound power forward for Brooklyn, was ejected during the game for something he said in the direction of Vin Baker, Jr., the Bucks’ guard/forward out of Boston College and son of the team’s former NBA All-Star Vin Baker.

Fans reacted strongly on NBA Twitter attempting to make sense of the events.

“WTF they didn’t even lock eyes or even get into an altercation. Soft a** ref,” one fan said. Others seemed to think that the punishment did not fit the crime as Perkins did not seem to do anything too objectionable at first glance.

“He’s no Ron Artest!” another fan said, tagging TNT broadcaster Reggie Miller. “Solid way to make a team,” another watcher said sarcastically.

DK Metcalf Thinks Seahawks Have Scary Offense

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf is excited about what the offense will be able to do in 2023 after the team added receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the first round of this year's draft and running back Zach Charbonnet in the second round. "I mean, just the type of person he is, first," Metcalf said when asked

about JSN. "He's a great dude. And on the field, he's a great route runner, excellent hands. So, I think he's going to open the offense even more. Him and Zach Charbonnet is going to do, you know, amazing things at the running back position along with Kenneth Walker III. We got a whole arsenal of weapons on

offense, adding Bobby (Wagner) back on defense, you know, a leader for not only the defense but the whole team." The biggest winner is quarterback Geno Smith, who got paid after a career year in 2022. He's not quite a QB1, but he's a solid target as a high-end backup in fantasy.

Marshawn Lynch remains a walking meme at MLB Home Run Derby

Marshawn Lynch remains a walking meme at MLB Home Run Derby
Marshawn Lynch remains a walking meme at MLB Home Run Derby

Story by Kristen Wong

Seattle saw one of the state’s greatest sports stars, Marshawn Lynch, make an appearance at the MLB Home Run Derby. Iconic is as iconic does.

Seattle Seahawks legend Marshawn Lynch came, saw, and conquered at the MLB 2023 Home Run Derby on Monday. This year’s All-Star week was being hosted by Seattle at T-Mobile Park, and the former Seahawks running back couldn’t resist having some fun at the glorified sports event.

Lynch proudly sauntered onto the field with the Home Run Derby trophy in hand prior to the competition, lifting the brass for all of Seattle to see as if to say: Look. Look at the Lombardi Trophy I could have won if they had just given me the d— ball.

But alas, the main sport of the day was baseball, not football, and Mets’ Pete Alonso, Blue Jays’ Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Mariners’ Julio Rodriguez were among the participants of the annual Home Run Derby. Let the games begin.

Amid the cheerful festivities of the derby, Lynch seemed less interested in watching the MLB’s most powerful sluggers go to work and more interested in… stealing swag.

Not long after the derby began, a video circulated of Lynch acting sketchy on the field. Lynch weaved between reporters and cameramen with his pockets stuffed with baseballs, walking cautiously as if he expected security guards to pop out of nowhere and arrest him for stealing said balls.

On his way out, Lynch was nice enough to stop and sign some memorabilia for kids — or was it all just part of the act?

Who knows. Some Twitter users thought Lynch was America’s most relatable sports star, others thought he was just a plain weirdo. Take a look and decide for yourself:

Oh yeah, and he also snatched up a pillow presumably given to members of the All-Star team and hid it under his shirt. The baseballs, the pillow, some other random merch: Lynch appeared to be pulling off some kind of secret robbery, and he had a hell of a time doing it. From Beast Mode to Heist Mode, Lynch sure

knew how to make a name for himself.

The five-time Pro-Bowler has made headlines in the past as any rambunctious, high-energy football player would. His most famous meme may be the one during the Seahawks’ Super Bowl media session in 2015 when he notoriously commented, “I’m here so I won’t get fined.”

Seems like Lynch has money on his mind lately, too, based on the way he was smuggling items out of T-Mobile Park. Hope he gets a good night’s sleep on that pillow.

During the Major League Baseball All-Star festivities on Monday night at T-Mobile Park, Lynch was honored before an adoring crowd.

Lynch, who was the No. 12 pick in the 2007 NFL Draft, started his career with the Buffalo Bills.

Social media was abuzz on Tuesday night before the Major League Baseball All-Star Game when four Seattle Mariners legends reunited for the ceremonial first pitches.

M's Hall of Famers Ken Griffey Jr. and Edgar Martinez threw out the first pitchers to other M's Hall of Famers Dan Wilson and Jay Buhner. You can watch the touching moment below:

These four players are four of the most important players in franchise history and were all part of the 1995 team that is widely credited for helping save baseball in Seattle. After the team was threatening to move, the Mariners went on a late-season run, winning a playoff series against the New York Yankees. That

helped sway public opinion on the team and helped earn the team the right's to a new ballpark - that same ballpark where the All-Star Game was played on Tuesday.

Griffey is widely seen as one of the best players in all of baseball history. He hit 630 career homers over a 22-year career with the Mariners, Reds and White Sox. He was a 13-time All-Star, a 10-time Gold Glover, an MVP and is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Martinez spent 18 years in the big leagues, all with Seattle. He was a seven-time All-Star and a two-time batting champion who had a lifetime on-base percentage of .418. He is also a Hall of Famer.

Buhner had a 15-year career, making one All-Star team and hitting 310 home runs. He played for the Yankees and Mariners.

Finally, Wilson spent 14 years in the big leagues with the Reds and Mariners, making an All-Star Game in 1996.

The National League beat the American League in the All-Star Game, 3-2.

Rodriguez did not disappoint, hitting a record 41 home runs in the first round.

The Mariners were able to capture the record-breaking round, and shared it on Twitter.

That round was plenty good to eliminate two-time Home Run Derby champion Pete Alonso, making it the second straight year that Rodriguez knocked Alonso out of the Derby.

It seemed like every single swing was a home run.

Oakland A’s fans were vocal at the 2023 MLB All-Star Game in Seattle.

As the franchise prepares to potentially move from Oakland to Las Vegas, a contingent of fans has pushed owner John Fisher to sell the club and keep the team in the Bay Area.

Supporters made sure to make their voices heard at the Midsummer Classic at T-Mobile Park as one fan posted a note card to Twitter from the outfield bleachers titled “Sell The Athletics All-Star Game Protest #FisherOut.”

The other side of the card called for fans to stand up during the first at-bat of the top of the fifth inning before starting chants of “Sell the team.”

And sure enough, in the top of the fifth, fans were heard chanting just that.

It wasn’t the first time in Seattle that A’s fans tried to make their voices heard.

At the first round of Sunday’s 2023 MLB Draft, fans started the same chant as the A’s selected Jacob Wilson.

In June, even as the team floundered in last place of the AL West, 27,000 fans showed up to the Oakland Coliseum as part of a reverse boycott that included coordinated chants, shirts and scores of signs.

 July 12, 2023

But the noise didn’t stop there and continued in the following inning when A’s representative Brent Rooker stepped up to bat.

In the bottom of the sixth, Rooker stepped in against National League reliever Alexis Diaz and laced a double into right-center field over outfielder Juan Soto as the chants were renewed.

Green Day frontman — and Oakland native — Billie Joe Armstrong even supported the movement.

A number of former and current major league players have spoken out against the potential move, including Bryce Harper, who is a native of Las Vegas.

“I feel sorry for the fans in Oakland,” Harper told USA Today in June. “It’s just not right. They have so much history in Oakland. You’re taking a team out of a city. I’m pretty sad because of all of the history and all of the greatness they’ve seen there.”

The A’s have been in Oakland since 1968 but appear on a course to move to Las Vegas on the site of the Tropicana hotel.

Angels’ Shohei Ohtani’s 5-word response when asked if he’s receiving All-Star free agency pitches

7/10/23

Story by Peter Alexis

Shohei Ohtani will be one of the most sought after free agents in the history of sports when he hits the open market after the 2023 season, and the recruitment is starting early at the 2023 MLB All-Star Game.

Everyone wants to know where the two-way pitcher and DH is looking to take his talents, as he currently sits with a ridiculous .302 average and league leading 32 home runs, while touting a 3.32 ERA in 17 starts on the mound.

Despite a barrage of questions from reporters and players alike, Ohtani is keeping his moves close to his chest. When asked if other players were sending out their recruiting pitches, the Japanese All-Star kept quiet, per USA Today’s Bob Nightengale.

“I’ll keep that a secret,’’ Ohtani said, laughing.

Ohtani elected not to pitch in tomorrow’s All-Star game after getting a blister on his finger last week, and will use the extra time to rest before returning to the Angels rotation after the break.

Fellow Angels star Mike Trout is expecting his teammate to garner one of the largest contracts of all time, projecting it at over $500 million.

As far as the rumor mill goes, Trout has not been ruled out as sitting on the trading block with Ohtani, if the Angels decide to clean house instead of hoping for the best case scenario

It remains to be seen where Ohtani will sign, but every time is going to put their best foot forward trying to recruit him. The Angels will continue to fight for a playoff spot if they decide not to deal him, but have their work cut out for them in the AL West.

Mariners’ Julio Rodriguez makes insane Home Run Derby history not even Pete Alonso accomplished

7/10/23

Story by Rexwell Villas

Julio Rodriguez put on an absolute show right out of the gate at Monday night’s MLB Home Run Derby. The Seattle Mariners star blasted a total of 41 home runs in the quarterfinals round of the event — more than enough to eliminate New York Mets slugger Pete Alonso from the competition.

Rodriguez also broke a Home Run Derby record with that power surge.

Via the Mariners’ public relations official Twitter account:

“@JRODshow44’s 41 home runs in the 1st round are the most in any single round in @MLB Home Run Derby history, surpassing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (40 HR) in 2019 Round 2.”

Julio Rodriguez did not give Alonso much of a chance, as he went off in front of baseball fans at the Mariners’ home park. The Mets star only managed to hit 21 home runs, the third-fewest in the quarterfinal round. (Adolis Garcia of the Texas Rangers registered only 17 home runs, while Los Angeles Dodgers star

Mookie Betts sent just 11 balls out of the field.)

It’s the second year in a row that Julio Rodriguez sent Alonso crashing out of the Derby. In 2022, Rodriguez shut the door on Alonso in the semifinals with 31 home runs to just 23 by Alonso before falling short in the finals against Juan Soto.

This time around, Rodriguez will be matched up against Toronto Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in the semifinals. Guerrero was the one to eliminate Betts in the quarterfinal round to the tune of a 26-11 score.

The 22-year-old Rodriguez has 13 home runs so far in the 2023 MLB regular season.

Guerrero Jr vs Arozarena [FINAL] HOME RUN DERBY July 10, 2023 | MLB HOME RUN DERBY 2023

By Daniel Kramer

SEATTLE -- This is his house and his city, and for Julio Rodríguez, the spectacle in the T-Mobile Home Run Derby was again spectacular.

But as was the case last year, when he finished runner-up as a rookie, Rodríguez had arguably the night’s most electric performance -- but it didn’t carry over into a crown in the jewel event.

• T-Mobile Home Run Derby: Complete coverage

2023 Home Run Derby Full Game Highlights ( Julio Rodríguez ) | 2023 MLB All-Star July 10, 2023

J-Rod crushed a Derby-record 41 homers in the opening round to dispatch the Mets’ Pete Alonso, a two-time champ. But he was eliminated in the semifinals by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. after hitting only 20 to the 21 from the Blue Jays slugger, who won the event over the Rays’ Randy Arozarena.

Rodríguez's 20 Round 2 homers

“It was electric,” Rodríguez said. “Just like the fact that we're out here and the whole crowd was into it and they were supporting me, all that. I feel like it meant the world for me, I really enjoyed it and I hope they enjoyed it too.”

Even in defeat, it was still a monumental night for the Mariners’ blossoming star and an opportunity to represent the franchise on this global stage.

The 41 homers in a single round surpassed the previous high of 40 that Guerrero hit in the second round at Cleveland’s Progressive Field in 2019, a Derby that Guerrero wound up losing in the finals, making Monday a reiteration of how vital stamina is in baseball’s prestigious power even.

41 HOME RUNS! 😱 J-Rod put on a show with record 41 HRs in the Home Run Derby | MLB on ESPN

Rodríguez took 59 swings in the opening act, according to the ESPN telecast, converting them into homers for a 69.5% rate. But he tapered off in the second round, when he swung 44 times for a conversion rate of 45.4% and saw many fly balls die deep in left-center field. Rodríguez also experienced some

diminished bat speed from the first round to the second (104.1 mph to 102.7 on his homers) and distance (404 feet to 399 feet).

Mariners STAR Julio Rodriguez GOES OFF for 81 home runs in Home Run Derby NEW RECORD in 2022.

HOME RUN DERBY 2023 [FULL GAME] July 10, 2023 | MLB HOME RUN DERBY 2023

“It feels like your mind is there, but your body is not,” Rodríguez said of the fall-off. “That's the best way to explain it.”

He was at his best on Monday when using the shortest direction to the pull side, specifically aiming for the visiting bullpen and Edgar’s Cantina, as each of his 61 went to the left of straightaway center. But as the night wore on and his swing got longer, Rodríguez was more middle of the field, which led to multiple

balls landing at the warning track in his final round.

Julio Rodríguez's 452-foot homer

“I wanted to live in the moment, kind of be able to give a show to the Mariners fans and just kind of give it my all. For that second round I was just ...” Rodríguez said, exhaling in a sign of exhaustion. “But it was fun.”

“I think it was a lot of tiredness,” Rodríguez’s throwing partner, Franmy Peña, said through interpreter Freddy Llanos. “I tried to put the ball right in the same spot every single time, but I think the tiredness is what kind of got us."

Seattle's Got Julio's Back in the Home Run Derby

Guerrero Jr vs Rodríguez HOME RUN DERBY [SEMI FINAL 2] July 10, 2023 | MLB Season 2023

Seattle’s star center fielder was looking to become the first Derby winner in his home ballpark since Bryce Harper in Washington, D.C., in 2018, and the first Mariners winner in the event since Ken Griffey Jr., who was the champion in 1994, 1997 and 1998, making him the only three-time winner.

Rodríguez was seen in the home dugout consulting Griffey just before first pitch in a moment bridging the club’s past and present.

Ken Griffey Jr. speaks to Julio Rodríguez in the dugout before the Home Run Derby.

Still, Rodríguez’s epic effort in the opening round will be the type that the crowd on hand will tell their friends they were there to witness -- especially Mariners fans, who roared “Ju-Li-O” on repeat throughout his performance and who evaporated all the hype from the building when Alonso and Guerrero were at the plate.

Rodríguez was all hugs with Guerrero, even sharing insightful nuggets before they did battle.

“It definitely was really good, just to be able to talk with them, talk about baseball, and he told me before the Derby to catch the ball a little bit out front,” Rodríguez said. “And that's what I did in that first round.”

Rodríguez was the No. 7 seed by virtue of 13 homers in the first half. But now that he has the pressure behind him -- of making the All-Star team, in his own city -- maybe Monday will serve as a springboard into a strong second half.

HOUSTON --  finished the first half of the season with back-to-back stellar starts thanks to a change in pitch selection.

Gilbert threw seven strong innings in the Mariners’ 3-1 win over Houston on Sunday afternoon at Minute Maid Park, helping his team take three out of four from the second-place Astros to head into the All-Star break.

The right-hander followed up his shutout win over the Giants on Tuesday by surrendering one run on three hits with six strikeouts against the Astros.

“I always have high expectations and standards and want to help the team, especially when we were going through a little rough stretch,” Gilbert said. “It seems like everybody is playing well, the whole team right now. I’m just trying to step up and do my part when it’s my day.”

Gilbert executed his pitch plan well, needing fewer than 10 pitches in three of his seven innings.

Gilbert (7-5) relied mostly on his slider and four-seam fastball. He threw 36 sliders, sitting right around 90 mph with the pitch. His 28 fastballs in the outing were consistently between 95 and 97 mph through his seven frames.

“Awesome job by Logan today,” manager Scott Servais said. “What a trip he’s had. A complete game, then today, just on top of his stuff. We’ve really seen the emergence of his breaking balls. The slider, the curveball. He still has a good fastball, but he’s really pitching well. Not just throwing well. He’s pitching well.”

Servais said throwing the slider as much as Gilbert did was part of the plan.

Kingkaps7 GIF

“I thought he threw an outstanding slider in San Francisco the other day,” Servais said. “He carried it over into today’s game. If you look at the development -- and we talk about our pitching development all the time -- these guys are not a finished product. Even Logan, as established as he is in this league, he’s

focused on getting better, and the quality of his secondary pitches has gone through the roof.”

The Astros did not get a lot of hard contact against Gilbert, hitting just one ball with an exit velocity of over 100 mph. Martín Maldonado’s solo home run in the sixth was hit at an exit velocity of 99.9 mph and barely got over the fence and the glove of .

“Anything you leave over the plate, they have a good shot at it, especially against the fastball,” Gilbert said. “I think just a steady mix today. Cal [Raleigh] did a great job. … The way we mixed up pitches. I felt like the slider was good. I went to the curveball late, and that helped out a lot.”

Gilbert improved to 6-1 with a 3.26 ERA in 11 starts on the road this season. For his career, Gilbert improved to 19-4 with a 3.58 ERA away from Seattle.

Seattle opened a 3-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI double by Hernández and a two-run double by . The three runs were all Gilbert needed, and the victory put the Mariners back above .500 at the break at 45-44 after winning seven of their last nine games.

“It’s definitely good to finish the first half rolling,”  said. “We get these couple days to check out, regroup and finish strong. We ended the first half on a positive note, and hopefully, we keep it going when we get back."

Jarred Kelenic Laces a Two-Run Double to Right-Center

Jarred had been up earlier in the game and ground out weakly on a changeup from Astros pitcher Brandon Bielak. Bielak tried to get him again on the changeup, but this time, Jarred was ready:

Jarred turned that hit into a double, because of course he did, although it wasn’t exactly softly-hit, at 101 mph EV.

Seattle sits six games back of first place Texas in the AL West and four games out of the last AL Wild Card spot entering the break following the 5-2 road trip through San Francisco and Houston.

“Really outstanding road trip,” Servais said. “We needed to respond. Our guys certainly did. We played against two really good teams and to win their last series in a row gives us a little boost going into the All-Star break.

“It hasn’t been an easy first half. There have been some struggles, but you look at where we’re at now, and we’re a game over .500. We’ll get a chance to catch our breath a little bit for four days and come out and hopefully, get back after it on the homestand.”

De La Cruz delivered an RBI single in the seventh inning that allowed the Reds to break a 5-5 tie. He stole second off relief pitcher Elvis Peguero on a 1-1 pitch, and then took off for third on the next pitch and made it safely without a throw.

Peguero was rattled after he got the ball back from catcher William Contreras, and after he turned around to walk back to the pitcher’s mound, the ultraquick De La Cruz took off for home and easily beat Peguero’s throw home.

De La Cruz has been a dynamic performer for the first-place Reds since he was called up to the team June 6. At the time, the Reds were 27-33, but they have turned their season around by recording a 23-7 mark since then.

Elly De La Cruz has set the tone for his team hitting .325 with 4 home runs and 15 RBI since being promoted to the Reds.

Carew’s memorable achievement came against the Detroit Tigers, who had Mickey Lolich on the mound and catcher Bill Freehan behind the plate.

Mariners play Astros hard but lose late, this time 3-2

Astros execute temporal pincer movement, win by scoring in first and last innings

Woo's dominant outing falls to the wayside

Woo spins another gem

Bryan Woo closed the first half of his rookie year with brilliance, tossing his 2nd consecutive quality start.

HOUSTON --  put the Mariners in the driver’s seat on Saturday night. Rebounding from giving up two runs in the first inning, the rookie right-hander settled in and retired the next 14 batters.

The offense was set up to repay the favor in the eighth. Houston reliever Hector Neris handed Seattle a bases-loaded, no-out situation with a hit-by-pitch and two walks in a 2-2 tie. But the Mariners couldn’t capitalize in a 3-2 loss at Minute Maid Park that will surely sting.

Swing or no swing?

“We’ve won six out of our last seven, been playing really good ball,” manager Scott Servais said. “But [we] had a chance to really take control of this series … and didn’t get that quality at-bat we needed there.

“[We] had them against the ropes. We just couldn’t give them the knockout punch.”

Cal Raleigh struck out. Mike Ford popped up. José Caballero watched strike three. And Neris celebrated with impunity as he wriggled out of a self-inflicted jam. Then the second of two gut-punch mistakes occurred half an inning later, as light-hitting catcher Martín Maldonado launched a go-ahead solo homer that

would seal the loss.

The silver lining? Woo’s dominance.

Kingkaps7 GIF

In his second consecutive quality start -- the July 3 outing in front of a hometown San Francisco crowd was the first of his career -- Woo retired 14 straight batters. After Houston strung together three hits and took advantage of a Dylan Moore throwing error for a second run in the first, he didn’t allow another hit.

Woo didn’t need his slider to do it either. According to Statcast, he didn’t throw a single slider and only one changeup, instead leaning on a near-equal split of four-seamers, sinkers and cutters to subdue a righty-heavy Astros’ lineup.

“The cutter was just feeling better than the slider was today,” Woo said. "[I] was able to throw it more for strikes, so just kind of is what it is. Some days, you’re not going to have some pitches. … [Today] was just one of those days.”

Kingkaps7 GIF

The decline in slider usage hasn’t just been a one-day phenomenon. According to Statcast, Woo has thrown progressively less sliders in each of his starts. Instead, the cutter -- almost a faster version of the slider with less movement -- has replaced it in recent starts. After he threw six cutters on June 27, Woo

followed with 10 his next start and 19 on Saturday night.

He was able to command it and throw it in for strikes, allowing for an efficient 78 pitches in six innings. And given that it was in question whether Woo would even be allowed to make his final start before the All-Star break -- or be given extended time off to curb his workload like George Kirby last year -- the strong

start was a big win for the rookie.

José Caballero Lines an RBI Single to Tie the Game

Woo has already far surpassed his 2022 innings total (57) after Saturday pushed him to 78 2/3 frames thrown in 2023 between the Majors and Minors. But the way the 23-year-old has evolved and proven himself as a Major League-worthy starter, it could be tough to keep him off the mound.

“I feel like I’m in a pretty good spot. Arm and body feel good,” Woo said. “I know that [the club] is kind of monitoring the innings a little bit. Day like today, where the pitch count wasn’t too high but got into the sixth, it’s frustrating as a competitor.

“But at the same time, you see where they’re coming from. … You respect their decision, and then you just do the best you can with it and continue to get better throughout the year.”

Story by Brady Farkas

Houston Astros outfielder Chas McCormick committed a controversial and potentially dirty play at the end of Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners.

McCormick hit a ball deep in the hole at shortstop and was thrown out by JP Crawford. As he was running to first base, he took a swipe at the glove of M's first baseman Ty France, who could have had his wrist, elbow or shoulder injured.

You can see the play here, which was completely unnecessary.

There's an update to the story now though, with France saying he heard from McCormick after the game about the play.

Per Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times:

Ty France didn't know that Chas McCormick intentionally swiped at his arm on that play in the ninth inning. He thought McCormick just ran into him. McCormick texted France postgame to apologize about the play.

It is good to see McCormick apologize and hopefully that suffices for the Mariners. The Mariners enter play on Friday at 43-43 and can't afford to go settling scores by throwing at guys. McCormick is in the lineup and hitting eighth.

The Astros enter the game at 49-39 on the season. They are in second place in the American League West, while the Mariners are in fourth.

Houston currently holds the No. 2 spot in the American League wild card picture while the Mariners are 4.0 games back.

Francisco Alvarez plunking clears benches after Mets rookie asked to tone down celebrations

Story by Andrew Battifarano

This was weird:

That was ridiculous. It really shouldn’t be hard for an umpire to let everyone know if a player was safe or out, especially when it looked like it could have gone either way.

C’mon, Lance!

Francisco Alvarez brought out the power bat again Thursday — but he also was beaned.

The Mets’ rookie catcher homered for the third straight game in the Amazin’s 9-0 win when he took Diamondbacks starter Ryne Nelson deep for a two-run homer in the third inning.

But in the seventh inning, after Alvarez had added a run-scoring single in the fifth, he stepped in against reliever Jose Ruiz and took an up-and-in 97-mph fastball off the hand or elbow.

A perturbed Alvarez seemed to take exception to the plunking and stared Ruiz down.

He walked slowly down the first base line with his bat before home plate umpire Tripp Gibson intervened in front of the 21-year-old.

At that point, the Mets — including manager Buck Showalter — stormed out of the dugout and bullpen to the foul line, and they were eventually joined by players and coaches from Arizona.

As Alvarez stood on first, Tommy Pham and Showalter talked to the youngster, and things dissipated without any ejections.

Alvarez hit two mammoth homers for the Mets in the first two games in Arizona, including a two-out game-tying blast in the ninth inning Wednesday.

In the Wednesday blast, he carried his bat a good chunk of the way down the first base line, and then, as the ball cleared the wall, Alvarez turned to the Mets’ dugout and flexed his muscles.

Mets third base coach Joey Cora told the young backstop before the game to tone things down in certain situations, like in Wednesday’s case, when the game was still tied.

“[Cora] just said that emotions are good to have in a game, but let’s also keep in mind that at that point there was still a lot of game to be played since it was only a home run to tie the game,” Alvarez said through an interpreter before the Mets’ win.

“If it’s one of those things where we take the lead by two runs or three runs, it’s more appropriate to do, but at that point we had to kind of stay locked into the game.”

New York Mets’ Francisco Alvarez (4) celebrates his two-run home on Thursday night.AP

“[Cora] pulled me aside [Thursday] when we were more relaxed and he just said, ‘We have to understand the situations of the game,’” Alvarez added. “It wasn’t in a bad way. He wasn’t getting on me. He wasn’t trying to teach me a lesson. It was just to give me some good advice to say I have got to zone back into the game.”

It’s not the first time the Venezuelan native made headlines for his celebrations.

In 2021, while playing in the minors with the High-A Brooklyn Cyclones, Alvarez himself admitted he “disrespected” the Yankees’ Hudson Valley affiliate when he bat-flipped after a titanic homer.

Celebrations or not, Alvarez now has 16 homers this season, the second-most for a catcher in an age 21 season or younger, trailing only Hall of Famer Johnny Bench.

Zelensky Reveals to CNN’s Erin Burnett Which Classic Rock Bands Give Him ‘Energy’ to Get Through War

Zelensky calls Putin's reaction to Wagner rebellion 'weak'

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the short-lived Wagner Group mutiny has exposed Putin's weakness in controlling the Russian military during an exclusive interview with CNN's Erin Burnett.

Story by Charlie Nash

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told CNN’s Erin Burnett that listening to Eric Clapton, AC/DC, and Guns and Roses helped him get through Ukraine’s war with Russia.

“As a human being, so many people look up to you; they rely on you. No one can imagine how hard that is,” said Burnett to Zelensky in a clip from her interview, which aired on Wednesday. “Do you do anything for yourself? Are you ever able to take a minute to read or to listen to music or something to sort of give

yourself that moment?”

Zelensky replied, “I have such moments. Important to be in silence, to be alone. Alone, how can I be alone? Alone I can be with music or with a book, and early, early in the morning when there are no sounds,” adding that “the music helps.”

Asked what music he liked to listen to, Zelensky said, “I like AC/DC and Ukrainian music. Of course, I like Ukrainian music a lot because Ukrainian, that’s native language. That’s why you understand not only music, you understand words and etcetera.”

He said that while he did not “understand all the words” of AC/DC, he liked “the energy.”

“I like Eric Clapton, loads of, loads of— Guns and Roses,” he continued before joking, “Maybe it’s too old music.”

Burnett responded, “I understand. We’re the same.”

“I love it,” Zelensky said. “It’s important to have sometimes at six, seven in the morning some trainings…”

“Workout,” said Burnett, to which Zelensky replied, “Yes, workout.”

He concluded, “To do something with music, with such music, which gives you energy for all the day.”

The MLB All-Star Game is next week and many pitchers need to decide if they are going to pitch in the game.

Most players that are selected look forward to playing in the game.

But depending on how the schedules line up, some pitchers are unable to pitch.

One star who will likely not pitch in the game is Shohei Ohtani.

According to Bob Nightengale, Ohtani told reporters he will likely not pitch in the ASG due to a blister on his finger.

This is disappointing for many baseball fans who were hoping to see the two-way star both at the plate and on the mound.

There has never been a baseball player like Ohtani.

He is doing things that MLB has never seen before and it is a ton of fun to watch.

Hopefully, Ohtani will still be able to hit in the game, which might be what he does best.

This season Ohtani leads all of baseball in home runs with 31.

He is coming off a month where he hit 15 homers and won Player of the Month.

Ohtani is the overwhelming favorite to win his second AL MVP award.

As long as he can stay healthy, he might win the award unanimously.

The All-Star Game is the one time a year when MLB fans get to see all the best on one field.

While that may still happen it is a bit disappointing that we will not get to see Ohtani pitch.

U-40 Bucket List Racing Flip Replays #H1Unlimited // #GovernorsCup

Full multi-camera replay of the U-40 Bucket List Racing driver Dustin Echols' flip in the Final Heat of the 2023 @madisonregattainc Indiana Governor's Cup.

Independence Day weekend always means a lot of activity on the water, be it on lakes, rivers or in the ocean.

One of the events that took place this past weekend occurred on the Ohio River with the 2023 Madison Regatta Indiana Governor’s Cup in Madison, Indiana.

The event, held annually on 4th of July weekend since 1951, is an H1 Unlimited hydroplane boat race sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association.

The Madison Regatta was the second of four events that will be held in 2023.

During the fifth and final heat of this year’s Madison Regatta, the Bucket List Racing entry from Snohomish, Wash. did something unexpected when it did a complete backflip at around 200 MPH, and kept on going.

Despite the amazing landing, the driver of the powerboat, Dustin Echols was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation but was not seriously injured, according to a press release.

Footage of the wild flip was taken from several angles…

Following the wild ride taken by Echols, event organizers canceled the remainder of the H1 Unlimited Racing Series event.

It was the second year in a row that a powerboat race in Madison ended with a blow-over accident.

J. Michael Kelly of Bonney Lake, Wash., the driver of Beacon Electric, was named the event winner based on points he had collected in preliminary heat racing during the weekend. He was second in one of his heats on day one and was the winner of the first two preliminary heats that were held on day two.

It was Echols’ flip and then sticking the landing that most fans are going to remember, however.

“That’s incredible. Looks like Earnhardt at Daytona in 97,” another person tweeted.

“I’d like a view inside the cockpit when this guy landed and realized he was still going! That’s insanity!” someone else wrote.

“Anakin skywalker did this while pod racing as a young boy. Unmoved,” another person joked.

Shohei Ohtani Slugged His Career-Long Home Run Friday Night And Fans Were in Awe

Story by Dan Lyons

Shohei Ohtani does something absolutely remarkable on the baseball field on a seemingly daily basis, and Friday night was no different for the Angels’ two-way superstar.

In the sixth inning of Los Angeles’s 6–2 loss to the Diamondbacks, Ohtani hit a mammoth 493-foot home run, the longest of his MLB career and his 30th of the season. He is the first player to reach 30 homers on the season, and is two clear of the Braves’ Matt Olsen for the MLB lead.

According to ESPN Stats & Infothis is also the longest home run of the entire MLB season so far.

4️⃣9️⃣3️⃣ feet for No.3️⃣0️⃣!

493 FEET!!! Shohei Ohtani is UNREAL!! He absolutely DEMOLISHES his 30th homer of the year! 大谷翔平ハイライト

Ohtani’s exploits on a baseball diamond are always breathtaking. Once again, he had the baseball world fired up with this mammoth home run.

Ohtani was remarkable when he was merely an All-Star level pitcher and hitter. Now, he is pretty clearly the best hitter in all of baseball, and is a bona fide ace on the mound on top of it.

A look at his month, per @OptaSTATS on Twitter:

Final offensive numbers for the @Angels' Shohei Ohtani in June 2023:

 25 extra-base hits

21 walks

15 home runs

He's the first player in MLB history to have at least 25 extra-base hits, 20 walks and 15 home runs in a single month.

Cameraman Drilled By Errant Throw During Yankees vs. Orioles Game

7/5/23

Story by Andrew Gould

"Such a great sign to see Pete Stendel put his arm in the air," one fan said. "Sending thoughts and prayers to him, his family and the YES Network."

A scary incident took place during Wednesday night's game between the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles.

Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson fired a throw that sailed over first baseman Ryan O'Hearn's head and struck a cameraman in the head.

Camera man hit directly in the face.. Scary moment.

The Athletic's Brendan Kuty identified the YES Network camera operator as Pete Stendel, whose "legs kicked wildly for a moment right after he was struck." Play halted as medical personnel rushed to his assistance.

Stendel gave the Yankee Stadium fans a peace sign as he got carted off the field on a stretcher. The crowd chanted "MVP."

During the Amazon broadcast, Michael Kay said Stendel was responsive and talking.

Stendel has also worked New York Mets games for SNY, who sent him well wishes on Twitter. The Orioles showed their support on Twitter as well.

Our thoughts go out to Stendel, who will hopefully make a swift recovery following Wednesday's frightening scene.

Yankees and Orioles continue pivotal series before All-Star break

The Yankees entered the game on a two-game win streak, having won the first two legs of this series against the Orioles. This is a crucial series for both teams, as only two games separate each other in the American League East division, with the Orioles second and the Yankees third. The final game of the series

will be played Thursday with the Orioles expected to give the ball to Kyle Bradish, while the Yankees will start Luis Severino.

Is Angels’ Mike Trout MLB’s new Ken Griffey Jr. following latest injury?

7/4/23

Story by Shane Shoemaker

Mike Trout is undoubtedly one of the most talented players of this generation. With his remarkable combination of power, speed, fielding prowess, and consistent hitting, Trout has often drawn comparisons to some of the all-time greats the game has offered. One that comes to mind is the legendary Ken Griffey Jr.,

but perhaps now for all the wrong reasons. Like Griffey, Trout finds himself in a familiar place once again this season: on the injured list.

Both players possess the rare distinction of being true five-tool players, capable of excelling in every aspect of the game. They are often revered as the best of their respective era’s, for their remarkable displays on the field. However, as Trout’s career continues to progress, a haunting parallel is beginning to exist

between these two players—a string of injuries that has plagued their careers, leaving many to ponder what could have been.

Trout and Griffey are both injury prone

Looking at Trout’s career first, he has experienced a series of significant injuries in the second half of his career. From tearing his left thumb ligament in 2017 to suffering right wrist inflammation in 2018, foot surgery in 2019, back issues in 2021 and 2022, and now a fractured hamate bone injury, Trout’s injuries have kept him on the sidelines for prolonged periods.

In total, Trout has missed 155 games and counting while on the injured list. From 2012-2016, though, he never once was placed on the injured list and never missed more than three games after being called up from the minors.

Reflecting on Griffey’s career, we see a similar tale of consistent injuries in relation to Trout. Whether it was a fractured wrist, torn labrum, dislocated patella or a broken hand he suffered during one winter while at home, “The Kid” never could seem to avoid the injury bug. In his 22 year career in 2,671 games

played, Griffey missed a total of 553 games, with 12 visits to the then disabled list. Somehow, the left-handed slugger still amassed for 630 home runs, 2,781 hits, 10 gold gloves, seven silver sluggers, 13 All-Star appearances and an AL MVP.

In comparison, Griffey at the 13 year mark had missed 229 games, which is 74 more games than Trout currently has in the middle of his 13th season. Trout could easily make up for that, though, with his current stint on the injury list and 75 games left in the current season.

What also should be taken into account is the amount of games that both Trout and Griffey missed due to circumstances out of their control. Griffey had to suffer through the 1994 strike season that cost him 68 games. Trout, on the other hand, had to go through the pandemic shortened season in 2020 and a brief

lockout headed into last season where a week worth of games were lost, in total accounting for about 108 games.

Is Trout’s career another what if?

What if Griffey had evaded all those injuries? That answer will forever remain elusive, locked away in the realm of speculation and hypotheticals. The question is, will we be asking the same of Trout?

Trout’s latest injury serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between extraordinary talent and vulnerability to injury with athletes. This has therefore left us to ponder the unanswered questions surrounding his career, just as we have done with Griffey.

What if all of Trout’s injuries could have been fewer and less severe? What milestones is he going to miss because of them? And more importantly, what kind of impact has he alluded the Angels of in making the postseason previously and presently?

Like Griffey, Trout hasn’t been there for his team when they’ve needed him the most as his setbacks have not only hampered his individual accomplishments but have also had a detrimental impact on postseason aspirations.

Trout’s latest injury forces him onto the 10-day injured list, and arrives at a critical juncture for the Angels. With their last postseason appearance dating back to 2014, the team’s hopes of ending the drought require Trout’s contributions. While Shohei Ohtani continues to dazzle, the Angels cannot solely rely on his

remarkable play to secure a spot in the 2023 playoffs. Trout’s absence once again leaves a gaping void that isn’t easily filled.

Griffey only played in 18 career postseason games in three separate seasons, which is 17 more games than Trout had in one season. Though both were never on the best of teams throughout their career, it still stands that if they could have been healthy, their teams would have perhaps won more games, making

the playoffs.

A unwanted comparison to greatness

The parallels between Trout and Griffey, though eerily similar, is a bittersweet one to grasp. Both players possessed the ability to surpass any statistic imaginable. Yet, their careers will forever be tinged with the lingering shadow of injuries, leaving us to wonder about the uncharted territories their talent could have explored.

Mike Trout is arguably the new Ken Griffey Jr., not just in terms of his exceptional abilities but also in the unfortunate narrative of an injury-laden career. Both players will forever be hailed for their undeniable greatness, while simultaneously leaving us with enduring questions asking what could have been.

Taylor said he finds it "fascinating" that the Declaration of Independence "refers to ‘all men being created equal’ as a ‘self-evident’ truth."

Said Taylor, "Most societies in most times have not subscribed to that. This is only ‘self-evident’ to those who would subscribe to the biblical idea that God created human beings equally in his image."

He added, "If they were not created equally, they certainly evolved unequally. There is no basis for democracy except grounded in belief about the divine origin of man."

Taylor said, "Thus, it was a Declaration of Independence from Britain, and a bold ‘Declaration of Dependence’ upon God. Angels’ star Shohei Ohtani reveals MLB All-Star Game plan after scary injury in loss to Padres

7/4/23

Story by Peter Alexis

Los Angeles Angels superstar Shohei Ohtani left the mound early in the sixth inning with an apparent finger injury after giving up back-to-back homers to the San Diego Padres.

Following the injury, Ohtani announced he’s not planning to pitch in the All-Star Game. The tw0-way pitcher is hoping to heal in the 10 days before his next start after the break, per Jeff Fletcher of SoCal News Group.

He may consider hitting in the last three games this week before the All-Star break, depending if it will worsen his blister. The Angels may elect to rest their slugger to ensure the injury does not deteriorate, given their other ongoing troubles.

Ohtani’s injury is the latest in a string of misfortunes for the Angels, who can’t seem to catch a break. In the span of 24 hours, they lost nearly half of their payroll to injuries, a daunting realization for a franchise with almost no margin of error this summer.

Besides the Ohtani finger blister, Mike Trout went out with a wrist fracture in a freak injury the night before. He will need surgery and is expected to miss an extended period of potentially 6-8 weeks.

With the Trout injury announced before Tuesday’s afternoon game, the troubles were just getting started for the Angels. Anthony Rendon followed that up by fouling a pitch off his shin shortly before Ohtani’s exit, and limping off the field.

All three of those stars make up over $100 million of their payroll, and were lost in a matter of seven innings for varying amounts of time.

Since the top of the 8th inning yesterday, the Angels have seen 44% of their 40-man payroll leave the game with injuries.

Dodgers, Mariners pull off trade ahead of All-Star break

07/04/2023

Story by Anthony Riccobono

The Los Angeles Dodgers have made a minor trade with the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners have sent infielder Pat Valaika to the Dodgers. Pat Valaika has spent the entire season in the minor leagues and will report to Oklahoma City Dodgers in Triple-A.

The Dodgers’ trade gives the team some more potential depth in the infield. Utility man Chris Taylor has been dealing with a knee injury that he suffered on June 16 and isn’t expected to return before the 2023 MLB All-Star Break. Shortstop Gavin Lux has missed the entire season with a torn ACL.

In 38 games with the Mariners’ Triple-A affiliate, Valaika hit .240/.343/.405. He had four home runs and 26 RBI.

Valaika split time between the Colorado Rockies and Baltimore Orioles from 2016-2021. In the 60-game shortened 2020 campaign, the infielder hit a career-best .277 with eight home runs for the Orioles. Valaika slashed .201/.250/.290 with five homes in 90 games with Baltimore in 2021. It was the last time that

Valaika took a big-league at-bat.

Injuries and offseason departures have forced Los Angeles to get creative in the infield. Mookie Betts has seen time at second base in 19 games in addition to playing shortstop 15 times. Betts made 133 starts in right field last year.

The Dodgers could be poised to make a bigger move when the 2023 MLB trade deadline gets closer. Los Angeles trails the Arizona Diamondbacks by 2.5 games for first place in the NL West.

The Dodgers are the second NL wild-card team. They own a slim 1.5-game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers, which are the first team out of the NL playoff race.

The rosters for the 2023 MLB All-Star Game will be filled out Sunday. MLB fans will learn who will be representing their teams in Seattle on July 11.

The Rangers, Braves and Dodgers are already well-represented with three starters each, while the Angels, unsurprisingly, are sending Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout as starters.

A pair of rookies — Rangers third baseman Josh Jung and Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll — were voted in as starters by the fans as well.

The reserves and pitchers for the game were determined by player ballot (a backup at each of the nine positions, five starting pitchers and three relievers in each league) and the Commissioner's Office (all the remaining spots). Each of the 30 clubs must have at least one All-Star representative.

The Sporting News is tracking the announcement of the All-Star reserves and pitchers and providing live updates.

It was a stark contrast to Gilbert’s previous outing on Thursday, when he needed just 77 pitches to match a career high with eight brilliant innings. But that was Oakland, and this was the Yankees.

Kirby, Miller and Gilbert each vowed to flush these, and the Mariners staying above .500 heading into summer will hinge on it.

DAVID LEE ROTH Shares Documentary About VAN HALEN's Appearance At 1983 US FESTIVAL

VAN HALEN singer David Lee Roth has shared a 24-minute documentary, "The Road To The US Festival", about the band's appearance at the second and final US Festival, which was held over Memorial Day Weekend 1983 at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernardino, California. Check it out below.

Sponsored by Steve Wozniak, formerly of Apple computer, the US Festival (US is an acronym for "Unite Us In Song"),held on Memorial Day of 1983, was a massive three-day celebration of technology and culture, with a temporary stage and open-air venue paid for by Wozniak himself just for the purposes of

the festival. The event featured "Heavy Metal Day" on May 29, 1983 with the following stellar lineup: MÖTLEY CRÜEOZZY OSBOURNEQUIET RIOTTRIUMPHJUDAS PRIESTSCORPIONS and VAN HALEN. The US Festival co-headliners, David Bowie and VAN HALEN, each earned record-setting $1.5

million paydays for their sets.

The festivals included large air-conditioned tents featuring the US Festival Technology Exposition, a dazzling display of then-cutting-edge computers, software, and electronic music devices. Also making a debut were installations of "outdoor rain," perforated PVC nozzles that sprayed water to fight the fierce hundred-

degree heat.

Despite the historical value of the performances, the festival was a failure, with two reported deaths at the 1983 festival and Wozniak and promoters losing some $24 million. Setbacks aside, the performances remain a worthy footnote in rock history.

The US Festival interest remains strong 40 years later in pop culture with mentions in "The Simpsons""Malcom In The Middle""Dharma & Greg" and other popular TV shows.

Guitarist Eddie Van Halen played his final concert with VAN HALEN on October 4, 2015 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. It was the last show of the band's summer 2015 tour, which marked VAN HALEN's third time hitting the road since Roth rejoined the group in 2007.

Eddie and drummer Alex Van Halen formed VAN HALEN in 1972 in Pasadena, California, with Roth on lead vocals and Michael Anthony on bass.

Shohei Ohtani sounds off after getting removed from mound in win vs White Sox

6/28/23

Story by Rexwell Villas

Shohei Ohtani made another reminder of why he is on his way to Cooperstown. The incredibly talented baseball unicorn of the Los Angeles Angels almost singlehandedly beat the Chicago White Sox Tuesday night at home. It was not a smooth ride for the entire game for Ohtani, though, as he was forced to leave the

mound in the seventh inning because of a cracked nail.

Meanwhile, he dominated on the mound, going 6 2/3 innings, allowing just one run and four hits, and striking out ten with nasty pitches like this.

After the game, Shohei Ohtani allayed fears of a potential injury that could hinder him from making his next scheduled start.

“Shohei’s nail evidently cracked earlier in the game and he was fine. But he saw Webb warming and thought he might have a better feel for his pitches at that point, so he came out. Should be okay for his next start.”

Shohei Ohtani, who is 7-3 with a 3.-2 ERA through 16 starts this season, left the mound against the White Sox after allowing only an earned run on four hits with 10 strikeouts. He did more than just torch White Sox hitters, as he also went 3-for-3 with two home runs.

As many would have expected, what Ohtani did against Chicago was a duplicate of a feat no one had seen before in over 100 years, per OptaSTATS.

“Shohei Ohtani of the @Angels is the first MLB player to reach base 4+ times, hit 2+ home runs and strike out 10+ batters all in the same game since Jack Stivetts did so for the St. Louis Browns against the Toledo Maumees on June 10, 1890.”

And, he wasn’t done at the plate, either. He homered again, giving him a league-leading 28 on the season before the calendar turns to June.

MLB world laughs at epic Derek Jeter prank

Story by Chris Novak

Derek Jeter got pranked on his first day on the job at FOX, and everyone is laughing about it.

The famed New York Yankees shortstop got his start at the MLB on FOX desk on Saturday in MLB’s London Series broadcast. The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals partook in the first of two games across the pond. But after the game was over, attention was sent straight to the desk.

Jeter received a ‘Happy Birthday’ message from former Core Four teammates Andy Pettitte and Jorge Posada. Then, longtime rival David Ortiz of the hated rival Boston Red Sox revealed he had a special gift for him, too.

What we got wasn’t just a gift but an all-time prank as well. Ortiz gifted Jeter a box, which the former Yankee opened. He pulled out a jersey with the No. 2 and ‘JETER’ stitched onto the back. But there was just one problem: It wasn’t the pinstripes or the classic grey.

No, it was a Red Sox jersey.

“David Ortiz just pranked Derek Jeter on his first day at FOX… …by gifting him a Red Sox Jeter jersey,” Awful Announcing tweeted.

Jeter jokingly voiced his “displeasure” sitting next to Big Papi earlier in the show, but who would have thought it would get worse!? He chucked the jersey almost right away!

The MLB world spent time laughing at the epic prank.

Titanic Sub Tourism Expedition - Exclusive Footage (My Personal Experience)

In this video I share my personal experience with OceanGate Expeditions during Mission III, 2023 My condolences goes out to the people who passed away and their family members.

A YouTuber says he rode in the Titan submersible just days before it went missing.

His footage shows OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush discussing issues with the sub's "life support" system.

Jake Koehler says in the video that the sub had issues "every day" during his trip.

A YouTuber who rode inside the Titan submersible just days before it went missing shared footage of his nine-day excursion in the Atlantic Ocean, which included OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush expressing concern over issues with the sub's control systems.

Jake Koehler posted the nearly 30-minute video to his YouTube channel DALLMYD on Friday. Koehler's channel has more than 13 million subscribers and typically features videos of himself finding lost items while diving.

The video chronicles Koehler's journey to St. John's in Newfoundland, Canada, where he joined the Titan submersible for its third mission. The submersible went missing during its fifth mission on June 18. The US Navy later confirmed that the sub imploded shortly after it started its descent.

British businessmen Hamish Harding and Shahzada Dawood, Dawood's son Suleman, Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, and OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush were all killed in the implosion.

Koehler showed footage of Nargeolet and Rush in his video but said he removed some footage given the circumstances of their deaths.

In his video, Koehler said that at one point they had to take the submersible to a nearby cove to do repairs before heading out to sea.

"We're mission number three. But the first two missions they weren't able to dive down to the Titanic due to weather conditions. And, also, the Titan the submarine, I guess something happened when they were towing it back. A ghost net got wrapped around it, broke a lot of stuff," Koehler says in the video.

"They're just double-checking everything right now, making sure everything's safe."

Before heading out to sea for their dive, OceanGate planned to do an "engineering dive," but Rush decided to call it off because the sub was having issues with functionality and the weather conditions were bad, an OceanGate official says in the video.

Rush, debriefing the crew on why he called off the dive, said something "just didn't seem quite right" with the submersible's control system, which he called the "brains" of the sub.

"That's why I called it, but mostly because we've got to find out what this control problem is that sort of important controlling the sub," Rush says in the video. "It's up there with life support."

The problem, Rush said, is that two "control pods" on top of the sub were not "consistently communicating."

Koehler cuts the video after Rush's comments. Koehler says he wasn't sure if the control pods issue was the same issue that later caused the Titan's catastrophic implosion.

"Your guess is as good as mine," Koehler said.

"It could have been anything," Koehler continued. "Long story short, every day they did have some problems, and we tried to fix every little thing to make sure everything was perfect for our opportunity to dive to the Titanic."

Koehler added that the issues with the sub "seem weird now," but at the time they seemed like an "everyday thing."

Luckily for Koehler, his trip to the Titanic — which is more than 12,000 feet below the surface of the ocean — didn't happen. But he did still get to take a test dive to a depth of about 3,000 feet.

"I would have been in that submarine, and my fate could have been just like the five who lost their lives just recently on mission five," Koehler said.
